News: Eudy Bernardo vs. Jose Gonzalez for WBC Latino lightweight title on October 6th; Munoz-Bouvier, Cuello-Meneses on Saturday
September 26, 2012 – Undefeated lightweight standout, Eudy “AK 47″ Bernardo (13-0, 8 KOs), who hails from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, will travel to hostile territory and fight Jose Gonzalez (20-0, 15 KOs) who resides in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico. Both fighters will put their undefeated records on the line as they battle for the World Boxing Council (WBC) Latino Lightweight title.
This 10-round bout is promoted by PR Best Boxing Promotions in association with Boxing 360 and will take place on October 6, 2012 at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez, in Bayamon, PR.
Fighting for his first sanctioned title, Bernardo who’s a dynamic boxer-puncher is excited for the opportunity to fight for the WBC Latino lightweight title. Having won his last two fights by knockout, Eudy understands this fight will be his toughest challenge to date.
“I know when I step in the ring with Jose Gonzalez it’s going to be a war,” said Bernardo. “He’s fighting in his homeland and he’s going to do everything in his power to please his fans. He’s coming off a couple of knockouts so I expect him to be aggressive in this fight. I’m in great shape and will be prepared for anything Gonzalez brings to the ring. I don’t expect this fight to go the distance.”
“This is the type of fight that makes boxing the greatest sport on the planet,” stated Boxing 360 promoter Mario Yagobi, who promotes Bernardo. “When two young hungry undefeated fighters are scheduled to face each other, it’s the fans that benefit the most. Eudy Bernardo is a special fighter who brings nothing but excitement to the ring and this fight will prove he’s a blue chip prospect.”
Jose Gonzalez has never fought outside of his native land of Puerto Rico and will have the hometown crowd on his side. If Bernardo is successful in winning this fight, it will be a remarkable feat having traveled to a place where a fighter has never lost.
“There is no doubt about it if Bernardo comes out victorious, he’ll be considered one of the best young prospects in boxing,” continued Yagobi. “I know Gonzalez is going to do everything he can to win this fight, but I anticipate a hard fought victory for my fighter, Eudy Bernardo.”

LADIES FIRST…ZULINA MUNOZ AND GABRIELA BOUVIER TO SQUARE OFF FOR MUNOZ’ WBC SILVER BANTAMWEIGHT TITLE ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 IN MORELIA, MEXICO, DENVER CUELLO FACES IVAN MENESES IN CO-FEATURE
LOS ANGELES, September 26 – The ladies of boxing will be on center stage on Saturday, September 29 as Televisa and FOX Deportes travel to the Morelia Michoacan Municipal Auditorium in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico to air the showdown for the 10 round fight between Mexico City’s Zulina “La Loba” Munoz and Uruguay’s Gabriela Bouvier for Munoz’ World Boxing Council (WBC) Women’s Silver Bantamweight Title.
In the televised co-main event, scheduled for 10 rounds in the minimumweight division, Philippines’ Denver “Excitement” Cuello takes on Tijuana’s Ivan Meneses.
Munoz vs. Bouvier, a 10 round fight for Munoz’ WBC Women’s Silver Bantamweight Title, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo Promotions. The Televisa broadcast will air on Canal 5 and begins at 10:30 p.m. CT and the FOX Deportes broadcast of Munoz vs. Bouvier begins at 11:00 p.m. ET/8:00 p.m. PT. The entire televised card will air on Sunday, September 30 at 6:00 p.m. ET/3:00 p.m. PT.
One of the fight game’s busiest competitors, Zulina Munoz (34-1-2, 23 KO’s) has been boxing for nine of her 25 years, and in that time, she has proven herself to be one of her sport’s best, pound for pound. Having captured NABF, WBC International, WBC Youth and WBC Silver championships, the only belt Munoz is missing is a world title belt, and with a current unbeaten streak that now stretches to 20 fights, her time to complete her collection is likely approaching soon.
What Gabriela “La Gaby” Bouvier (8-2-1, 2 KO’s) may lack in experience when compared to her opponent, she makes up in talent and desire. A native of Maldonado, Uruguay, Bouvier has come a long way in her short two-year professional career, with her only losses coming to the world-renowned Mariana Juarez. Coming off of a 77 second knockout win over Carina Maria Britos in June, the 20-year-old is determined to leave Mexico with a title belt around her waist.
When you’re nicknamed “The Excitement,” you’d better bring it on fight night and that’s just what 25-year-old Denver Cuello (31-4-6, 21 KO’s) does every time he steps through the ropes. Fighting out of Binangonan, Philippines, Cuello has been on quite a hot streak, going 10-0 over the last two years, with all ten wins coming by knockout. The recent winner of the WBC Silver minimumweight title, this southpaw banger is coming to Mexico with thoughts of another knockout win.
A veteran of nearly eight years as a professional boxer, Ivan Meneses (16-4-2, 10 KO’s) is a versatile competitor who can handle himself in any situation that he encounters in the ring. A former world title challenger who faced Roman “El Chocolatito”Gonzalez for the WBA Minimumweight World Title in 2010, Meneses has won four of his last six fights, including two in a row. Fresh off of a 12 round win over then 22-1-3 Luis Ceja in July for the IBF Latino belt, Meneses is ready for more glory this Saturday night against Cuello.
