Hatton can’t decide who he’d do better against – Khan or Kell Brook
By Michael Collins: Former two division world champion Ricky Hatton returns to the ring next month against former WBA World welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko on November 24th in Manchester, England. If Hatton looks really good in blowing out Senchenko, he could find the pressure mounting for him to fight Amir Khan or Kell Brook in fights that would be positively huge in the UK. Hatton, 33, still wants to prove himself worthy of facing both of those guys by getting past Senchenko in style and perhaps some other fighters.
In an interview by Kugan Cassius of IFilm London, Hatton said “It’s really hard to say [who Hatton would do better against]. I’d have to sit on the fence and go right down the middle. If Amir Khan gets drawn into a fight, it goes to the blue corner. But if Amir sticks to his boxing ability and moves and uses his hand speed, then obviously you’d have to side with Amir by a slight edge. I really can’t split between the two of them.”
Hatton goes onto say that he has to prove himself against Senchenko before he’s mentioned with Khan and Brook. However, I just wonder how much Hatton will have proven even if he does blow out Senchenko.
There are a ton of other welterweights in the division that would say a lot more about where Hatton is at in his comeback than putting him against a guy like Senchenko, in my view. How about putting Hatton in with Marcos Maidana, Andre Berto, Thomas Dulorme, Mike Jones, Randall Bailey, Devon Alexander, Selcuk Aydin or Robert Guerrero? If Hatton could beat guys like that then, yes, I think he could be mentioned with the same names as Khan and Brook. But beating up on Senchenko is hardly the kind of win that proves anything.
I think he should stay retired, people that get knocked unconscious once are generally prone to getting cold cocked again. Face first brawlers eventually lose thei iron chin and then they started getting stopped regularly.
Fight them both Ricky!!! Im hoping Ricky shock the world and comes back big against Senchenko.
Go for Kell Brook … i think Khan will be too fast this older version of Hatton.

Hatton would do much better against Amir Khan. Hattons pressure would make Khan slug it out with him which is a sure way to get Khan knocked out. Brook would be too skillful and if he came into the ring fit, he would make quick work of Hatton.
Foreman got very lucky… But the more you try the luckier you get.
Every comback takes a different path.. Hatton doesn’t have to do it like anyone else. He can take his time. He has a massive advantage because he’s a very popular guy.. He can pick and choose his opponents very carefully like George Foreman did when he came back at 38 …. Foreman knew that it’s not so much who can beat you—but who you fight and when you fight them.. George lost 2 title fights to Holyfield and Morrison at ages 42 and 43—but when Moorer upset Holyfield Foreman moved Heaven and Earth to get the first shot at Moorer… Foreman saw something and knew Moorer was the right fight for him.
Hatton sucks.
Ricky’s style isn’t made for successful second chances. He’ll end up taking a beating. :-(
Hatton’s head will experience punch fatigue pretty early on in this comeback. Punch fatigue = where the nervous system closes down to reduce the experience of trauma. If Ricky does get through a few opponents, he’s taken way too much punishment in the past to step into the A game now. Brain specialist doctors should do an intervention on Ricky.

Khan would cut Hatton to ribbons, Brook I feel would also stop him. He may get through his comeback fight but as soon as the calibre of fighter in front of him is of a high class that will be the end of this come back. Hatton does not take a shot well and has only one game, but it well make for some exciting nights.
Brook, Khan’s speed would give Ricky nightmares, Kell doesn’t have alot of experience and has struggled against lesser opponents.
This is going to end badly fro Ricky Hatton. He should have never made a come back.

I would imagine Hatton would be more competitive with Kell. In his prime I think he would have beat both. Would hate to see Khan get Ricky Hattons name on his resume.

Thanks Herron… I don’t see it as a matter of Hatton getting back to form. That’s not a lofty goal. It’s a matter of tuning up really well in a few fights and then building on that base. Take the Hatton of the Malignaggi fight and build diligently on those skills after each fight until he retires for good. Before the Ortiz fight Mayweather said, “I think I can still get better.” …. If you don’t think like that you actually go backwards. When George Foreman was 38 he said, “People think I’m crazy, but I’m actually going to learn how to pace myself and box.”

I’m a Yank and I definitely think Hatton should build himself up in the UK and not bother flying across the pond for his first few fights back. First because he’d be screwing up his own training schedule, secondly because he is the draw, and thirdly because his fans deserve it. I live in NYC and it’s annoying that no sooner did Cotto get to the big time that they made his biggest fights in Vegas. I’ve seen all his fights in NYC and would have loved to see the others here as well. These promotional deals with Vegas don’t really favor fans.
Hatton needs to work out that rust; right now any active fighter has an advantage over him. Christ this “writer” is dire. My advice for Ricky is if all goes well fight in the UK and keep all the money at home. The yanks will go hopping mad. If Ricky looks good they will be hopping mad to get him stateside to milk the UK fans. Ricky stay at home and give your fans a few big fights before you retire. If the yanks want to watch it let them buy the PPV

Hatton won’t ready for Brook or Khan whatever the outcome.. He won’t be for a while. Hatton can’t step right back in like Vitali or Floyd and look like he’s never been away. He’s not a “natural” … Hatton needs several fights of this caliber to ramp up his defensive skills and outside boxing skills which Floyd Sr started to teach him. He loves boxing and wants to master it, but it’s going to take time. It’s not a matter of ring rust. It’s the development and refinement of skills he’s never mastered but has the speed, power, and talent to do so. I think he knows this.
He would easily do better against Kell Brook. KB has absolutely no inside game!!
