Kotey Neequaye faces Flores Jr in New York tomorrow night

By Prince Dornu-Leiku – Ghana’s Samuel Kotey Neequaye hopes to announce himself to the boxing world when fights in the United States of America for the first time on Saturday night when he takes to the ring against Frederico Flores Jr. in a Light welterweight contest at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino, Verona, New York.

The Ghanaian with a perfect record of 17-0, 14 knockouts, was originally scheduled for the ten round main event against Santos Pakau who pulled out at the last minute due to a leg injury and 24 year old Flores Jr. (7-4-1, 2 KOs) has stepped in as replacement.

This, his first fight at Light Welterweight, 29 year old Neequaye has vowed to add his name to Ghana’s legendary list of great boxers including Azumah Nelson, Ike Quartey, D.K. Poison, Joshua Clottey and Joseph Agbeko by becoming a world champion.

“It’s a long journey but I am determined to keep on fighting hard till the end. I know with hard work I can make it. I’m ready to keep learning and improving until I become world champion. I promise to always make Ghanaians proud so they should keep on praying for me,” Neequaye told the Ghana based website from his US base.

Samuel Kotey is training intensely in Baltimore, Maryland with his able manager Stephen Darko in tow.
