Randall Bailey suffers injury sparring, fight with Alexander to be moved to October 20th or 27th – News

By Rob Smith: The September 8th match-up between IBF welterweight champion Randall Bailey (43-7, 37 KO’s) and Devon Alexander (23-1, 13 KO’s) has been rescheduled to either October 20th on the Barclays card in Brooklyn, New York or October 27th due to Bailey suffering an injury during a sparring session this week, according to RingTV. It’s definitely bad news if you were looking forward to this fight, but adding Alexander-Bailey to the already loaded Barclays card will definitely help.

The Bailey-Alexander might be better placed if Golden Boy Promotions were to add it to the October 27th fight card headlined by Anselmo Moreno vs. WBC super bantamweight champion Abner Mares at the Honda Center, in Anaheim, California, United States. Thus far, that card only has the Moreno-Mares fight on it and it badly needs a good undercard co-main event to make it more appealing.

Adding the Alexander-Bailey fight to the the October 20th Barclays card, which already has WBA/WBC light welterweight champion vs. Erik Morales, Paulie Malignaggi vs. Pablo Cesar Cano, Peter Quillin vs. Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam, Daniel Jacobs vs. TBA, Dmitriy Salita vs. TBA, Luis Collazo vs. TBA, would be overkill because this card is one of the best I’ve seen in a long time.

Bailey, 37, will be making his first defense of his newly won International Boxing Federation welterweight title and it’s going to be thrilling to see what he can against the younger, smothering Alexander, who is coming off of a clinch-filled victory over Marcos Maidana earlier this year in February. Can Bailey handle Alexander’s clinching or will he end up being smothered like Maidana? I can’t wait to see this one.
