A # 15 Blake Caparello calls out Danny Green

By Brendan George: Undefeated Australian Light Heavyweight Blake Caparello wants to step up and fight Australia’s best 175lb fighter Danny “The Green Machine” Green 33-5. Caparello 16-0 is a two-time national champion who has fought and beat everybody in the region, apart from the former WBC interim Super Middleweight and WBA Light Heavyweight champion.

Caparello, who is the current PABA champion, recently put in a polished 12 round performance against Jorge Rodreguiz Olivera 24-6 has his sights firmly set on the former WBA light heavyweight champion Danny Green.

I caught up with Blake Caparello and this is what he had to say: “I want to fight the best, I respect Danny Green, he’s a great fighter and a World champion. I have fought and beat the best fighters from this region and Danny is the only fight left for me in this country.”

On paper Danny Green has too much experience for Caparello having more than twice the fights including a host of World title bouts. I asked Caparello’s trainer if this fight is to early for Blake: “Blake is ready for this kind of fight,” stated Sam Labruna. “We are ready for the big fights now, we have dodged nobody, we respect Danny Green but we know Blake will win this fight.”

Caparello will defend his PABA title on the 8th of August and according to Boxrec will be fighting for the vacant WBA Fedelatin title as well. I asked Caparello’s co-manager Brendan Bourke about this fight:

“We have the opponent lined up for the date, a former World title challenger so that should give Blake a look at the next level.” When asked why he thinks Green might be tempted into fighting Caparello, he replied: “If we come through the August title fight with a win, then we hope to be ranked in the top 10 in the WBA at 175lbs. Obviously, that’s Danny Green’s old belt. We hear Danny wants to fight for his old belt so what better way than the two best Light Heavyweights in the country squaring off with the prize being a higher ranking in the WBA and a prime position to challenge for the World title.”

One thing is for sure, Caparello’s team look like they are up for this fight. Only time will tell if Danny Green will accept the challenge.
