All Set for Robles vs. Marks This Friday in San Diego

All the preparations are in their final stages for the latest edition of “Champions of Tomorrow” presented by Bobby D Presents on Friday, April 19th, at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Kearny Mesa a suburb of San Diego. Sponsored by Mossy Automotive Group, Filippi’s Pizza Grotto, Pepsi, Island Squeeze, and El Latino Newspaper, the all action main event between junior welterweights Emmanuel “Renegade” Robles (7-0-1, 2KOs) and Joshua “Superman” Marks (8-4, 8KOs) is sure to bring the anticipated sold out crowd to its feet. Local boxing people in the know are split as to who will win this fight.

Known as a slick southpaw, San Diego‘s Robles will have to prove he has what it takes to keep up with the hard hitting Marks of El Centro, CA, who in his last trip to “America’s Finest City” stopped the favorite Oscar Godoy after meeting the canvas himself. Robles has looked very impressive in last few fights and has developed well since joining the Bobby D Presents stable and will now look to give the San Diego crowd what they want, a hometown win.

“I’m more than ready for this fight, I know Marks is a hard hitter and will be looking to knock me out but I asked for this fight and I have spent the seven weeks preparing like never before. I will not disappoint my fans,” Robles stated with a serious look on his face late last week after a heated sparring session. “My team and I have been working on some new things and I think Marks is in for a surprise.”

As for Mark’s he kept his response brief during a phone interview, “I am going to knock his ass out (period)”, and hung up the phone.

In a special attraction, popular undefeated super welterweight David Barragan (4-0-1, 2KOs) of National City, will see action for the second time in his pro career in his hometown against out of Towner Moses Alvizo (1-5) of Phoenix, Arizona in a scheduled four rounder. Barragan feels that this bout is a blessing, as is every day, for him since it is a miracle he is even walking today. Nearly five years ago on his way home from after a long day of training in the gym a driver under the influence of drugs broad sided the car he was in severely injuring him. The accident killed a passenger in the other car and Barragan was immobile for almost a year with a broken back and was told by his doctors that perhaps he would never walk again, let alone fight. Barragan, who at the time was an outstanding amateur boxer and a sure bet to make the 2008 U.S. Olympic boxing team, never believed the doctors. He worked harder than before and never gave up on his dream of one day turning pro. With that character and determination of a champion, he is now fully recuperated and is proving all his doctors wrong. The twenty-two year old Barragan, who owns his own boxing gym and is a criminal justice major at San Diego State University, is looking to get his career on the fast track with an inspiring performance in front of his hometown crowd.

Also featured on the card are flyweights Jonathan Quiroz (3-1) and Javier Barragan (2-1, 2KOs) of Lakeside in what looks to be a sure barn burner. A female four rounder between local first timers Aracely Tinoco and Guadalupe Gutierrez as well as highly touted featherweight Erick Ituarte (4-0, 1KO) of Los Angeles by way of Durango, Mexico, versus much more experienced Pablo Batres (4-4-1) of Nogales, Mexico.
