Antonio Canas and Genaro Mendez to square off

Chicago, IL, November 20, 2013–When the always electrifying Antonio “Aztec God of War” Canas (8-1-1, 3 KOs) and Genaro Mendez (7-1-1, 4 KOs) square off in a six round junior welterweight bout a week from tonight during Hitz Boxing’s “Fight Night at the Horseshoe: The Black Wednesday Battle,” it will be a hard fought bout between two former sparring partners who have great respect for one another.

This is one of two premiere crosstown bouts that promoter Bobby Hitz put together for his November 27th card at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond.

“This is the fight card for Chicago fight fans. We are featuring local guys versus local guys. The guys you see in the neighborhood, the guys you see in the gyms, the guys you see at the grocery store,” said Hitz. “Unlike other guys who bring in nothing but out of town guys people have never heard of except their families, I know that local fighters, like Antonio and Genaro, are the bread and butter of the Chicago fight scene and deserve to be showcased.”

Both Canas, 33 and and Mendez, 30, are going to be ready for this fight thanks to the legendary Chicago trainers they will have in their respective corners when they step into the ring. Canas works with Sam Colonna and Mendez works with George Hernandez.

“I’m coming into this fight with my A game. I am in the best shape by far that I have been in my life,” said Canas. “Its going to an off the wall fight. There is going to a lot of back and forth. Whoever has the ability to adapt is going to win.”

Although Canas and Mendez have 7 knockouts between they are prepared for this fight to go the distance.

“I plan on going the full six and I am ready for it. I train hard and I believe in my skills,” said Mendez. “In boxing it only takes one punch and anyone can land that one punch. We both have that warrior mentality.”
