Former WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (26-1, 14 KO’s) is hoping to get on the highly visible Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez card on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Trout expressed interest in his social media site, saying “Looking to get on the September card.”

Trout would likely be a welcome addition to the undercard because he almost beat Canelo last April and there are still a lot of boxing fans who feel that Trout should have been given the decision. However, two of the judges had Canelo up by wide scores of 118-109 and 116-111 despite the fact that Canelo was outworked in every round and out-landed throughout the fight.

A lot of boxing fans think the outcome would have been different without the open scoring that was used in the fight, which enabled Canelo to take a lot of rest breaks and fight in a much slower pace, throwing few punches and mostly resting.

The Mayweather-Canelo undercard is still being put together by Golden Boy Promotions as of now but Trout would be an excellent choice to be added.
One option would be for Trout to face the likes of Victor Ortiz. That would be a good fight to see how Ortiz deals with a slick boxer like Trout.

Ortiz has better hand speed and power than Canelo, and he’s a little bit lighter but not by much. He could give Trout some problems if he fights aggressively and doesn’t go to pieces mentally if he starts facing some adversity later on in the fight.

The winner of the Alfredo Angulo vs. Erislandy Lara fight would also be a good option for Trout because whoever emerges from that fight will be a tough option because both guys can punch.

Trout vs. Carlos Molina would also be an interesting fight and probably a much easier one to put together.

I think it’ll be easy to get guys willing to fight on Mayweather-Canelo undercard because of the attention the card will be getting from boxing fans.
