Boxing Finds A Home in Bethlehem

Next Saturday, August 10, at the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem, world-class featherweights Gamalier Rodriguez and Jorge Pazos go toe-to-toe in another one of those great Puerto Rico vs. Mexico showdowns. This will be the fifth show in the Sands Event Center. Local fans, however, are more excited about the undercard matchups.

Boxing in Bethlehem started with welterweight Ronald Cruz (17-2, 12 K0s) who is wasting no time getting back into the ring in front of a pressuring crowd. He will be facing tough Mexican Rodolfo Armenta (12-10-1, 9 K0s), of Rio Rico, AZ. But this highlight is more about the younger guys building a name for themselves at this venue.

Popular Allentown heavyweight William Miranda will face Philadelphian David Williams in a well-deserved rematch of their first bout last December, which ended in a four-round draw.
Philadelphia’s favorite super middleweight, Jesse Hard Work Hart, looks extend his eight-fight unbeaten streak when he faces Adrian Lopez, of Socorro, New Mexico.

Looking to follow Hart’s lead is his former amateur teammate, Arturo Trujillo, of Easton, PA. Hart and Trujillo, a welterweight, both won titles at the 2011 National Golden Gloves representing Pennsylvania. Trujillo takes on Yurii Polischuk, of Alexandria, VA. Both men are 1-0.

Junior welterweight Jerome Rodriguez, of Bethlehem, meets Ariel Duran, who is originally from the Dominican Republic but now lives in Queens, NY. Those who attended the June 14 event at the Sands Event Center certainly remember Rodriguez (red trunks). He stole the show that night, trading first-round knockdowns with hard-hitting Treysean Wiggins, of Newburgh, NY, then knocked Wiggins (silver/blue trunks) out in the second round of their scheduled six-rounder. It should be a candidate for Preliminary Fight Of The Year.

There will be more fights towards the end of August as well, so fight fans will not miss out on the fight game much longer. Take a look at our fight program that night; it will tell you more about all of these local fighters and more!
