By Michael Collins: Unbeaten heavyweight Deontay Wilder (26-0, 26 KO’s) takes on journeyman Matt Greer (15-8, 13 KO’s tonight on Fox Deportes at the Centro de Convenciones, in Villahermoso, Tabasco, Mexico. This is another tune-up fight for the young 27-year-old Wilder go get him ready for better opposition in the division. The fights scheduled for 10 rounds but it probably won’t last more than a round at best.

Wilder wants to go after one of the heavyweight titles in 2013, so we’re not likely to see him fighting too many more heavyweights like the 35-year-old Greer. Wilder wants to move up against better opposition so that he can apply pressure on the Klitschko brothers to give him an important fight in 2013.

Wilder will have every advantage you can think of tonight against the shorter, slower, weaker and older Matt Greer. We have to be honest about this. Greer will be lucky if he can make it out of the 1st round tonight and that’s not just because he’s considered a weak opponent. The main reason why Greer will be obliterated early is owing to Wilder’s huge right hand power, which may be the best in the entire division.

What makes Wilder’s right hand so good is he puts his entire 6’7” frame behind it and that gives him a lot more power than the guys that are only 6’2” to 6’4”. Even the likes of Wladimir Klitschko and Vitali Klitschko don’t generate the kind of power that Wilder does with his right hand.

What we’ll be looking for tonight is to see how well Wilder does in showing his other offensive tools, like his jab and left hook. The boxing world already knows about Wilder’s right hand but they haven’t seen much of his jab and left hook. It would nice to see Wilder hold back on his right hand entirely and just focus on beating Greer with left hooks and jabs so that boxing fans can see how good these weapons are for Wilder.

This fight will nothing more than a practice bout for the 27-year-old Wilder. With his power, Wilder is capable of facing and beating the top contenders in the heavyweight division. I’d favor Wilder over guys like Tyson Fury, David Price, Chris Arreola, Denis Boytsov, Bryant Jennings, Tomasz Adamek and Kubrat Pulev.
