Fernando Martinez: Will be more tactical for APB

Lausanne, Switzerland, September 27, 2013 – The AIBA Pro Boxing (APB) “Boxer of the Week” social media campaign went back to a country with a significant pro boxing legacy: Argentina. After having presented Heavyweight (91kg) Yamil Peralta in August, the focus is now on one of the best local Bantamweights (56kg): Fernando Martinez. Bronze medallist at the 2010 South American Games, he has since then made his name known worldwide within the World Series of Boxing (WSB).

The Argentinean, who competed first for the Los Angeles Matadors and then at home form the Argentina Condors, recalls this experience as the best in his career so far, and looks forward to achieving more in his pro career with APB. This is what we discovered during the rapid-fire interview we made of the Latin American star based on the fan-generated questions received through the APB Facebook page (facebook.com/APB.Boxing) and Twitter account (@APB_Boxing).

While he is getting ready to conquer the APB ranks and reach the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Martinez believes that he will be able to achieve all of his goals once he will have overcame his brawler instinct in favour of a more tactical approach on the ring. “Sure, my main dream is to get to the Olympic Games in Rio and to get a medal there. In terms of performance goals I am trying to box more tactically and to think more in the ring, but like I said my instinct is to brawl.”

The new APB Bantamweight (56kg) also talks about the importance of a good physical preparation in his performance. “Without that you just can’t compete and a lot of your self-confidence comes from knowing that you can physically stand your ground anyway.”
