Lennox Clarke Tips Jason Welborn

Halesowen Super Middleweight, Lennox Clarke, is backing stablemate Jason Welborn to wrestle the Midlands Area Light Middleweight belt from Terry Carruthers’ grasp on Thursday.

Carruthers and Welborn go head to head later this week with the boxing fraternity split on the winner. Both men have a reputation for being involved in real wars and are sure to serve up a pre Christmas treat for Midlands fight fans.

However, according to Clarke, it will be Welborn who gives Carruthers a nightmare before Christmas.

“It’s going to be a great fight but I’m tipping Jason,” Clarke told www.uko-boxing.com. “He is a good guy and he’s similar to me in his style. It will be a good fight with Terry but, hopefully, like me, Jason will be celebrating at the end of the night.

“I’ve been sparring him in the build up to this fight and he’s helped bring me a on as a fighter. You learn a lot from sparring someone like him. I’ve seen him in action and I know how powerful is. I think that will be the difference against Carruthers.

Originally set to face Didier Blanch, Clarke now takes on Jody Meikle on EJKO Promotions’ ‘Who Dares Wins’ Show at the Holiday Inn, Birmingham (Thursday, 19th December). He’s looking forward to his own fight and is predicting double celebrations for Errol Johnson’s gym.

“Hopefully me and Jason will win,” he added. “I’ve had a good camp and feel like I’m improving.

“It’s a good fight for me to have. It’s just before Christmas against someone I’ve seen in action, so I’m looking forward to it. Jody is a bit of a character. He looks like he just loves a scrap and enjoys playing up to the crowd. I just need to stick to my boxing.”

As well as the main event – Terry Carruthers versus Jason Welborn in a British Eliminator and Midlands Area Light Middleweight Title – Birmingham lightweight prospect, Michael Rooney, steps in with ever-green Kristian Laight whilst fellow Brummie, Craig Cunningham, takes on Stoke’s Marcus Le Doux
