Mayweather Sr: Floyd Jr. isn’t afraid of Canelo

Mayweather Sr: Floyd Jr. isn’t afraid of Canelo(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) Floyd Mayweather Sr. says his son Floyd Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) has seen all there is to see of undefeated WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s0 and he’s not worried in the least about whether or not he can beat the 22-year-old fighter. Floyd Jr. absolutely knows he can beat him when they face each other in two months on September 14th.

Mayweather Sr. said to Hustleboss “My son has fought enough fights to let me know what he sees and what he thinks. There’s no fear in Mayweather; no fear there.”

Why would Mayweather Jr. be afraid to an inexperienced fighter with stamina issues, a poor work rate and a flat-footed fighting style like Canelo Alvarez? There’s nothing to fear for Mayweather in this fight as long as he doesn’t stand in one place and let the 170+ Canenlo use his huge weight advantage to overpower him the way he did with light welterweight Josesito Lopez and welterweight Alfonso Gomez.

If you stand and trade with Canelo it’s not going to work because the guy is like a middleweight/super middleweight in weight, and Mayweather’s a natural welterweight. He can’t beat Canelo at his own game because the guy outweighs him by too much. But Mayweather is going to use movement, fast shots and an in and out attacking style to defeat Canelo on September 14th.

I don’t see this fight as even being close unless Mayweather decides to stop moving and fight Canelo in the trenches like he did against Miguel Cotto last year in May. I don’t think Mayweather will do that because Canelo is too heavy. If Canelo steps in the ring weighing as much as a light heavyweight like he did in his last fight against Austin Trout, Mayweather will have to use movement because he can’t stand and trade with someone as huge as that.
