Peter Fury hoping Tyson will fight Vitali in March

By Michael Collins: Peter Fury, the trainer for unbeaten #4 WBC Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s), is hoping that the 24-year-old Fury can jump in line in front of the arguably much more popular David Haye to get a title shot against the 41-year-old WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko in March or at some point in 2013.

Peter believes that Tyson has the youth and talent to beat Vitali at this point in his career and then hold onto his World Boxing Council strap for a long time.

Peter said to the Manchester Evening News “If we can get Vitali Klitschko in March, then we will…I’m happy to sign up for it. We are ready if Vitali decides to fight on. I can see Tyson winning and keeping hold of the world title.”

A good question is why would Vitali fight Fury when someone like Haye is available? There isn’t a huge demand for a Vitali-Fury fight worldwide. Fury’s fans in the UK would like to see him fight Vitali, but that’s pretty much it. Fury has hurt himself by not facing quality heavyweights during his career. He’s been taking on way too many older fighters and journeyman level guys, and while that’s the norm for younger fighters to do, it’s kept him from building a fan base outside of the UK.

It’s safe to say that Fury won’t get the Vitali title shot in 2013, and by the time he does get a crack at the WBC strap, Vitali will have retired.

It’s understandable that Peter Fury believes that Tyson will win a world title and then hold onto it for a long period of time, but it’s not realistic. Fury gets hit too easily and he slaps with his shots. I don’t think he’ll last when he faces his first legitimate power puncher. In his last fight, Fury fought Kevin Johnson, who looked absolutely terrible.

Beating someone like Johnson or Martin Rogan isn’t the same thing as beating a Chris Arreola or Kubrat Pulev. Fury is going to have serious problems when he eventually faces those guys, and I see him getting knocked out by both of them.
