Scott Jenkins in action on April 13th

SCOTT JENKINS will play a lead supporting role when his Hatton Promotions stablemate Adam Etches boxes for his first title this April, but he feels it won’t be long until he’s top of the bill in a championship fight of his own.

The exciting lightweight, 21, will look to add to his perfect professional record against international opposition at the Ponds Forge Arena in Sheffield on April 13.

And he feels it will be an experience that helps push him towards a title opportunity later in this year.

“On this show Adam will box for his first title, which is great, and I don’t think it’ll be too long before I’m knocking on the door for some kind of title myself,” he said.

“I’ve got to get past my next opponent before I can start thinking about it properly, and I haven’t even boxed an eight rounder yet, but by the end of the year I think I can be looking at something.

“It’s about doing things at the right time and not jumping in too early.

“My manager, Richard Poxon, knows what the best path to go down is. Like everyone I’m aiming for the British, European and world titles but things like youth titles and the Central Area put you in that direction.”

However Jenkins admits that in order for him to fulfil his title aspirations and get to the top he may first have to fend off a few local rivals.

South Yorkshire possibly has the largest number of lightweight prospects in the country and the young Sheffield-native says he’s happy to face any of them for local bragging rights.

He said: “There’s quite a few of us knocking about in Yorkshire and soon or later we’re going to have to clash and see who is the best.

“Around my weight there’s Sam O’Maison, Joe Rodgers, Sam Matkin, Jamie Sampson and Chad Gaynor. They’re all people I’d be happy to fight in the future.”

The Ponds Forge bill is being staged by being staged by Richard Poxon in support of the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity and Cavendish Cancer Care.

Tickets are priced at £30 standard, £50 ringside and £70 VIP ringside.
