IABA UPDATE (2013 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS DRAW)

Irish Amateur Boxing Association

Ireland will have no boxers in action on Day 1 of the European Championships in Minsk, Irish team manager Joe Hennigan reports from the Belarusian capital.

London 2012 Olympian Adam Nolan and Sean McComb get Ireland’s campaign underway against Pavlo Ischenko of the Ukraine and Poland’s Tomasz Kot tomorrow in the lightweight and welterweight classes.

Five Irish boxers – Paddy Barnes, Michael Conlan, John Joe Nevin, Ray Moylette and Joe Ward, all of whom are ranked in the top five in Europe – have been seeded.

Boxing at the 40th edition of the European Championships begins at 8pm (6pm, Irish time) at the Palace of Sport venue this evening.

Thirty six nations (216 boxers) will compete at the Championships.
