Brook pushing hard for Khan fight

IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (33-0, 22 KOs) is starting to sound a little needy and desperate in hopes of getting a fight against Amir Khan in 2015. Brook wants the negotiations with Khan to start pronto, and he doesn’t seem to want to wait.

Brook needs to get control of his emotions and play it cool or he could scare Khan off with how desperate he’s sounding.

Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn says that Khan’s management still hasn’t made contact with him about a Khan-Brook fight. At this point there’s no reason for Golden Boy Promotions to contact Hearn about a Khan-Brook fight, because they have no intention of fighting him next.

“You’ve heard it many times that I want the fight. You’ve heard it from him, he wants the fight. Let’s sign the contract and make it happen,” Brook said to skysports.com. “He’s said that I’ve never proved myself. I’ve gone to America, to the American’s backyard and took the title from him. I’m now the world champion, let’s make the fight happen.”

Brook needs to settle down a little. I think he might end up scaring Khan away with the way he’s coming across as so desperate for the fight. If Brook is so confident with his talent then he should wait until Golden Boy calls Hearn next year or so to arrange a fight. It may never happen though if each of them get beat in their next fights. Brook should focus on one fight at a time instead of looking to get the Khan fight signed right now.

Hearn is having Brook fight on the same day as Khan is in scheduling him to fight on December 6th. Hearn is doing this in order to build up the Khan-Brook. It’s obviously presumptuous on Hearn’s part because no one has told him that Khan will be fighting Brook next year. Hearn could be scheduling Brook on the same day as Khan for nothing if the fight never happens.

With the way that Hearn is talking about Khan not putting up big numbers on PPV, I wouldn’t be surprised if Hearn prices Brook out of the fight altogether by asking for too big of a cut. It’s nice that Brook beat Porter, but it’s still hard to see Brook as the A-side in a fight against Khan.

Hearn and Brook see the Khan-Brook fight as being capable of selling out Wembley Stadium in London the way that Carl Froch vs. George Groves recently did last May. I don’t believe the fight is nearly big enough to sellout Wembley. If Hearn scales it to maybe 25,000, I can see the fight selling that out, maybe.
