Deontay Wilder could steal the show on Saturday’s Showtime card

While Golden Boy Promotions has relegated unbeaten heavyweight Deontay Wilder (30-0, 30 KO’s) to that of an undercard fight on the card headlined by a fight between WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia and Mauricio Herrera, Deontay could steal the show if he’s able to blast his opponent Malik Scott (36-1-1, 13 KO’s) within the first four rounds.

The fight will be taking place at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez, Bayamon, in Puerto Rico. Garcia is the guy that Golden Boy is setting up for a possible fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in September of this year. For this reason, they’ve picked out a guy that basically has no chance of beating him in Herrera, and the fight is likely to be a situation where Garcia does whatever he wants to until the fight is either halted or he wins by a lopsided decision.

The chances are high that this could be similar to Garcia’s previous fight against Lucas Matthysse with him jabbing, holding, moving, and throwing low blows. We’re not talking excitement here. Garcia needs the fight to be exciting for him to get fans excited about him getting the September fight against Mayweather, but it’s not likely to happen because Garcia doesn’t have an exciting fighting style.

Deontay, with his huge one-punch knockout power in his right hand, he can definitely steal the show on Saturday night if he can poleaxe Scott with a one-punch knockout at any point in the fight. As long as Deontay looks good and scores a knockout, his chances of coming out as the top guy in this card are very high.

In his last fight, Wilder bludgeoned his opponent Nicolai Firtha into submission after four brutally one-sided rounds. With the punishment that Firtha took in the fight, there would have been no arguments at all period if a referee had stopped the fight in the 1st round because Deontay was really laying into Firtha with huge right bone-jarring right hands to the head.

Deontay said “It’s important for me to perform to the best of my ability and show people that I’m real, show people that I’m a legit heavyweight and once I continue my knockout streak and win, hopefully I can get some of the people on board that’s not on board. I have already won a lot of fans over that wasn’t with me in the beginning. A lot of them, they take different fights to crack than others but I think this fight right here is going to crack a lot of people. It’s going to bring a lot of fans on board once I do what I’ve got to do and that’s win.”
