England Boxing initiates a strategic review following recent changes

The Board of England Boxing has initiated a strategic review to examine the workings of the sport and the national governing body following the significant rules, governance and structural changes that have taken place in boxing over the last three months.

The review will analyze the role of the governing body, the support it provides to grassroots boxing and assess the strategic priorities for the organization and the future development of the sport. It will consult with clubs, members and volunteers and influence the development of a new strategy to support the growth and expansion of boxing in England.

The Board of England Boxing explained: “The sport has recently gone through a period of significant change. We have adopted a series of new rules and technical changes, appointed a new board of Directors and approved new Articles of Association that have changed the governance and decision making processes of the organization. In light of this, the new Board believes that now is an appropriate time to conduct a comprehensive strategic review to establish the current status of the sport and the governing body in England.

“The review will be a rigorous, fact-based assessment which will consult widely with clubs, members, volunteers and all of the key stakeholders involved in grassroots boxing. It will provide recommendations on key priorities and help the Board to deliver a strategy and plan to support the future development and growth of boxing in England following the recent changes.

“The Review will not affect the day-to-day operations of Boxing England which will continue with its current activities and initiatives to grow participation and develop pathways for the country’s most talented young boxers to progress.”

An independent firm of global advisers, Portas Consulting, has been appointed to conduct the review which will begin in February. It will report its findings to the Board of England Boxing within three months.

Further details of the consultation process with members and clubs will be announced shortly. Clubs or members that have further questions about the review or the consultation process should contact their Club Support Officer or contact England Boxing at enquiries@abae.org.uk or via our Freephone number 0800 023 2692.
