Thank the boxing gods for Gennady Golovkin. Up until the main event, the note pad contained lines such as:

“… had sleeping tablets in both fists. Unfortunately, he took all the tablets before the fight.”

“It was an unanimous decision from the crowd. F****** dreadful fight.”

When Golovkin walked into the ring, first with Jay Z’s Encore and then The White Stripes’ Seven Nation Army, it got the New York crowd pumped up in a hair raising, goose bump inducing moment of excitement and anticipation. The show had started. Whether the music was him or his promoters, it didn’t matter because the phenomenon in the ring was all him.

Unstoppable force versus immovable object; Golovkin was on a 16 fight stoppage streak and Geale had never been knocked out. It took only two rounds for Golovkin to knock the slippery Geale down. It took only three rounds for Golovkin to land his fight stopping right hand.

There was something very un-natural about the way Golovkin delivered his TKO punch. Geale landed a disorientating right on Golovkin, but instantaneously Golovkin returned with a ridiculously powerful and accurate right. Golovkin seemed so confident that Geale couldn’t hurt him, that he absorbed a surprising punch and countered with complete focus and lack of hesitation.

After Golovkin knocked him down for the second time, Daniel Geale gave up. He had everything to gain and tried his full bag of tricks, but “The Real Deal” had no answers for the real deal.
