Jordan Shimmell, 13-0 with 11 knockouts, has just signed a contract to box Damon “Bulldog” McCreary, 15-1 with 11 knockouts in Chicago on short notice. The fight is on the Golden Boy Promotions, 8 Count Productions and BOXX Promotions boxing show at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, IL on Monday, April 14, 2014. Jordan Shimmell is the USBO cruiserweight champ and is ranked #29 in the world by the IBO and #36 in the world by the WBC at cruiserweight. Jordan Shimmell who is also ranked #2 by the NABA, #7 by the NABO, #7 by the USBA and #11 by the NABF at cruiserweight is moving up a few pounds to box McCreary at heavyweight. The bout is scheduled for just 6 rounds due to time limitations for the undercard bouts on the show which starts at 7:00 p.m. CST. McCreary’s only loss is to Golden Boy Promotions’ heavyweight Deontay Wilder who is 31-0 with 31 knockouts. Shimmell looks to become only the second boxer to defeat McCreary. The Shimmell – McCreary heavyweight bout features two highly skilled and experienced pros in a cross-roads type fight. The 25 year-old Shimmell has been steadily climbing the pro rankings ladder and a win over McCreary will move him one step closer to a world title fight while McCreary at 40 years-old knows that his boxing career is closer to its end than its beginning and needs a win to be a top contender.
