Late change of opponent for Hammond

AUSTRALIAN prospect Cameron Hammond has had a late change of opponent for his appearance on the undercard of the big Mundine v Clottey card in Newcastle, New South Wales.

‘The Hammer’ was due to square off with experienced veteran Adrian Campbell, but the Warilla man had to withdraw on the day of the weigh-in due to personal issues.

It left co-manager Matt Clark having to call around frantically to find an opponent willing to step in at the eleventh hour.

Thankfully, Thailand’s Pramool Boonpok has agreed to step up to the plate. Hammond, 8-0 (4 KOs), defeated the Bangkok-native by unanimous decision in January and will be looking for another clear cut victory tomorrow night.

“Firstly I want to thank my team, especially Ricky Hatton for keeping me active,” Cameron said.

“I’m not sure why Adrian Campbell pulled out, but he must have his reasons. The guy has fought everyone in Australia and is a tough guy, so I hope he’s ok.

“I want to thank my new opponent for stepping in at such short notice. It’s not easy to do and takes a lot of courage. I’m hoping to put on a good show, after what has been a roller coaster day. Thanks to my sponsors, the PO Hotel, Moree and Absco Sheds.”

Matt Clark added: “It’s been a whirlwind of a day. Late notice pull outs do happen in the game, but obviously we were all disappointed. Hopefully Adrian Campbell is all good, it would’ve been a great little fight.

“A big thanks to Cam’s opponent for jumping in on about 22 hours notice. Cameron now just has to concentrate on doing the job and looking impressive despite the distractions”.
