Lucas Browne: “I Can’t Let Rudenko Stand Between Me And World Title Shot”

LUCAS “BIG DADDY” BROWNE isn’t going to let unbeaten Ukrainian Andriy Rudenko prevent him reaching his goal of world glory.

The pair clash in Wolverhampton tonight and with 34 knockouts between them, it’s got all the ingredients of a war.

As the WBA Inter-Continental and WBC EPBC titles will be at stake, a higher world ranking is likely to go to the victor and Browne is sure that it will be him moving closer to a showdown with the likes of Ruslan Chageav and Bermane Stiverne.

“Like every heavyweight I’m chasing world titles and I’m pretty close now so I can’t let Rudenko knock me off course,” Browne, 20-0 (18 KOs), said.

“This is a guy who I can’t afford to look past because he’s 24-0 with 16 knockouts and he’s obviously no slouch.

“He was going to fight Dereck Chisora for the European title at one stage and he’s got world title hopes of his own so I think this will be a very tough but also a very entertaining fight.

“I’ve got the height and reach advantage, but we can both hit so someone’s 0 will have to go. I’m confident that it won’t be mine.

“Although I’m prepared to go the full 12 rounds if I have to, I plan on winning in style. I’ll probably feel Rudenko out in the first round and then put it on from the second round onwards and see what he’s got.”

Lucas Browne v Andriy Rudenko is the chief supporting contest to Frankie Gavin’s European welterweight title clash with Leonard Bungu. The show is being televised live and exclusively by BoxNation (Sky 437/490HD and Virgin 546).
