Stiff Jab 2013 prospect of the year Mike “Yes Indeed” Reed looks to continue his campaign in the junior welterweight division when he headlines the April 18th card at Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, MD. Reed is a local fighter hailing from Waldorf, MD. His record currently stands at (8-0,5KOs). I had a chance to catch up with Reed to ask him how things were going in his boxing career.

Mike studies at Southern Maryland College and is majoring in accounting. He runs at seven each morning before his classes and hits the boxing gym in the evening once he finishes with school. I asked how he handled the task of being a full-time student and professional boxer, he says at first he struggled but now has found a way to balance both. Mike turned pro just last year and he enjoys getting to put on shows in front of a hometown crowd. Mike said ” I love the feeling because it kind of reminds me of the amateurs, a lot of my family coming out to support me.”, when asked how he feels about fighting at home.

Mike still has that same support system when he goes into his professional fights. In his last bout he faced another undefeated boxer in Bilal Mahasin where Mike was tested in the first round. Mike found his footing in the fight and went on to dominate the rest of the fight. He appreciates fighting opposition that will challenge him because he believes that fighting low level opposition will cause bad habits within himself. Its good that at the young age of 20 years old, Mike understands that boxing is a serious sport and you must develop good habits early on if you plan on having a successful career.

He is not yet signed to a boxing promotional company but plans to stay very busy in the ring in 2014. Mike looks forward to entertaining the fans and calls himself a fan friendly fighter, which he has lived up to so far. Mike says ” There will never be a dull moment when I step in that ring.” so look forward to an action packed fight when Mike fights on April 18th at Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, MD.
