Miss Liverpool makes Ring Card Debut at Gethin v Mathews event

Newly crowned Miss Liverpool 2014, Lucy Whittaker, is backing Derry Mathews to regain his British Lightweight title on Saturday 10th May at the Liverpool Olympia.

The Scouse stunner beat off all opposition to lift the title last Friday night at the Olympia and will be the ringcard girl for Mathews’s big showdown against Walsall’s Martin Gethin, live and exclusive on BoxNation (Ch. 437/HD 490 and Virgin Ch. 546)

Whittaker, 18, will now go through to the Miss England finals to be held later this year, but she is thrilled that her first official engagement is this Saturday as Mathew’s looks to defeat his big rival and move closer to a potential world title fight.

“It’s amazing to win the prestigious Miss Liverpool title, it still doesn’t seem real and now a week later I’ll be at Derry’s big British title fight,” Said Whittaker.

“I love boxing and support all the local fighters, but I’ve only ever watched it on TV so to be at my first live boxing event and not only sitting ringside, but also walking inside the ring is totally amazing!”

“You’ve got to back your own and fingers crossed that Derry wins back his British title on Saturday night.”

Gethin v Mathews headlines ‘All or Nothing’ also featuring undefeated super-middleweight talent Chris Eubank Jnr, Merseyside talents Tom Stalker, Nathan Brough, Matty Fagan and the pro-debut of Kevin Hodkinson, son of former WBC World Featherweight Champion Paul ‘Hoko’ Hodkinson; Manchester’s Terry Flanagan, Adrian Gonzalez and the pro debut of McCauley McGowan; Chorley’s Jack Catterall, Belfast’s Ciaran McVarnock, Blackwood’s Craig Evans and Birmingham’s Tommy Langford and pro-debutant Joe Costello.
