Rob Hunt Ready To Go Again

Stoke’s Rob Hunt is feeling refreshed and ready to go again after six months out of the ring.

The popular boxer is back in action for the first time since his International Masters Welterweight Title defeat at the fists of Steven Pearce last November when he takes on Halesowen-based, Kevin McCauley, at Walsall Town Hall on Friday, 16th May.

Hunt is eager to put that defeat to bed and make a return to winning ways as he looks to plot a course that will put him back in the title mix.

“I feel good after a rest,” he told www.uko-boxing.com. “You need a bit of time away just to weigh things up and I’ve had that now.

“I thought I was on top against Pearce when he caught me. He hit me flush in the solar plexus and there’s nothing you can do about that.

“I was back in the gym a week after the fight so although I haven’t been in the ring for a few months, I’ve been keeping myself in good shape. Once boxing is in your blood, there’s no getting away from it.

“Kevin has been in the ring with everyone. He’s a tough opponent for me but I need some rounds to push on. I still have that fire inside me to win a title; be it a Midlands or a Masters.”

Hunt has been preparing for his comeback fight by sparring fellow Fight Factory boxer, Josh McLaren. The pair both feature on EJKO Promotions’ ‘MayDay!’ bill and Hunt is expecting a double celebration on the night.

“Josh is a good boxer,” he added. “He’s technically very good. He doesn’t waste a shot and is very good. I like sparring with him and it’s nice to be on the same bill as one of my stablemates. I’m predicting a win for us both.”

Jason Welborn and Luke Paddock top the ‘Mayday!’ bill. The Black Country duo both face Bulgarian opposition in Stanislav Nenkov and Kristian Dochev respectively.

The undercard sees Wolverhampton brothers Des & Sid Bowater take on Kristian Laight (Nuneaton) and Matt Seawright (Tamworth) respectively alongside Stoke welterweight prospect, Josh McLaren, who takes on Gloucester’ Louis Van Poetch

Tickets, priced at £30 and £60 Ringside, are available from Walsall Town Hall Box Office on 0845 111 2900. The aftershow party takes place at the Pitch Sports Bar and Grill on Bridge Street, Walsall, and the show will be aired live and exclusive on BBC WM’s DAB Digital Service and online at www.bbc.co.uk/wm.
