The Game 365:Miguel Cotto

Miguel Cotto

On Madison Square Garden:

“It’s my second home … being there is a marvelous adventure.”

On fighting for fans:

“I know they follow Miguel Cotto. I know they’ve always been rooting for me and when I step into the ring I fight for them too.”

“Having all those Puerto Ricans rooting for me during the fight is going to help me, but I have to be focused on my work.”

On walking from dressing room to ring on June 7:

“It all depends on the work I made here at the gym. If I feel prepared enough for anything Sergio can bring me … then it’s going to be an easy road from the locker room to the ring.”

On retiring:

“I’m getting older, my kids are growing and I want to be there for them. I spend too much time in here (gym) and I lose time with them. Its close, my time to retire, its close. I’m going to enjoy the last part of my career.”

Freddie Roach

On training and key to fight:

“I try to duplicate a lot of what the opponents do. He (Martinez) likes to rest on the ropes with his hands up high and when he does that of course the body shots are right there. I feel that is the key to this fight, if you break the body down the head will fall.”

On how much of fight is physical and mental:

“I say about 90% of the fight game is mental. It’s who can pull it off, who can make their game plan work, who can execute the game plan best. Everyone gets in shape and gets ready for the fight…our people are 100% ready and then it’s the mental side. That’s what we work on a lot, the sports psychology the positive thinking and making the right moves at the right time.”
