Iraq War Veteran, Chris Traietti landed a devastating right hook at Bryan Dailey who went down quickly and was unable to beat the ten count as the referee stopped the bout at 1:43 in the first round of this scheduled six round cruiserweight bout, giving Traietti the knockout victory.
These fights were presented by Big Six Entertainment at the Royale Night Club in Boston, Massachusetts.
“Dailey is a big strong fighter who throws a lot of punches but has a porous defense, so I allowed him to come after me and patiently waited for a perfect opening and when I saw it, I went after it and knocked him out quickly,” said Traietti. “I was pleased with my performance.”
Traietti controlled the first round as he landed several hard punches including one that dropped Dailey, but the referee ruled it a slip. The Quincy, Massachusetts native improved his record to 16-3, 12KOs, as he won for the sixth consecutive time since his last loss to former world title challenger, Edwin Rodriquez. Dailey from Hopkins, Missouri, dropped his record to 5-9, 5KOs.
“The key to my success of late is training again with Jimmy Farrell. He helped me become a much improved boxer in every aspect of the game,” said Traietti. “I`ll be in the gym on Monday and get ready for my next fight on June 8th at the Royale and hopefully I can continue to stay busy this year.”
Light middleweight, Michael McLaughlin from Donegal, Ireland celebrated St. Patrick`s Day two days early as he crushed Paulo Souza, scoring four knockdowns from various combinations in the second round, after which the referee stopped the bout at 1:51, giving him the technical knockout victory.
“All the hard work I put in the gym paid off as I obtained the win,” said McLaughlin. “My timing, speed and power worked well in this bout but I was surprised I got the knockout as early as I did.”
McLaughlin dominated the first round as he punished Souza around the ring and was close to knocking him down a couple of times. He upped his record to 7-1, 4KOs and won for the fifth consecutive time, while Souza, from Somerville, Massachusetts, fell to 0-2.
“I`ll take a week off and then I`ll be back in the gym and get ready for my next fight on May 3rd (at the Irish Cultural Center, the next Big Six Entertainment`s boxing event),” said McLaughlin.
Cruiserweights, Vinnie Carita and Tyrone Smith boxed to a hard fought four round draw with a 39-37 scorecard for each fighter and a third scorecard of 38-38. Carita from Pembroke, Massachusetts is 8-1-1, 8KOs while Smith, a former New England Golden Gloves Champion, from Boston, Massachusetts is 5-8-1, 2KOs. This was a good back and forth fight as both men had their moments. Carita controlled the first two rounds as he was the aggressor and landed the majority of the power shots. Rounds three and four, Smith got the advantage as he out landed Carita and was extremely effective with connecting his combinations.
Gerald Schifone, a four time New England Golden Gloves Champion, kept his undefeated record intact, 3-0, 1KO, as he destroyed Robert Brando – Hunt, who dropped to, 0-6, over four rounds in this light middleweight fight. Schifone garnered all three scorecards, 40-36 for the unanimous decision victory. He landed whatever he wanted throughout the bout, went to the body extremely well and landed on numerous powerful combinations that staggered Hunt; however, he was unable to drop him. Hunt demonstrated a great deal of courage as he withstood a lot of punishment, yet he still came forward and tried to make it a fight, but couldn`t connect on anything of significance. Schifone will box again on May 3rd.
Donnie Palmer made quick work of Antonio Assermelly in their heavyweight encounter, as he dominated the first round and then he landed a powerful left, right hook combination that knockdown Assermelly at 1:49 in the round. Assermelly laid motionless on the canvas for two minutes before he slowly got up on his own. Palmer, from Dorchester, Massachusetts, improved to 4-0, 4KOs while Assermelly, from Cumberland, Rhode Island, didn`t throw a punch in the bout, fell to 0-2.
Rodrigo Almeida obtained his first professional victory in this light middleweight bout as he won a four round unanimous decision by three scorecards of 39-37 over Abdeltif Khnat, who made his professional debut. The first two rounds were a back and forth battle with both fighters having their chances before Almeida took over this bout in the last two rounds as he pressed the action and landed more punches, especially power shots. Almeida from Woburn, Massachusetts upped his record to 1-1 while Massachusetts resident, Khnat, dropped to 0-1.
Paul Gonzales, from Harwich, Massachusetts, won a four round unanimous decision over Saul Almeida, from Framingham, Massachusetts, in their four round light heavyweight bout with two scorecards of 40-36 and one scorecard of 39-37. Gonzales out worked and out landed Almeida. He improved his record to 6-3, 3KOs while Almeida fell to 0 – 4.
