GGG!

Damn!! Just watched the fight… I’ve been wondering if GGG is the real deal or just hype. That looked like the real thing. Ishida’s never been stopped in 35 fights… Please bring on Martinez vs GGG !!!

BTW, the girl with handsome butt cheeks made my putter stand up. :)

Golovkin’s eyes at the end of the first round just after he sat down said it all to Ishida: “You’re mine.”

Golovkin has yet to fight a serious contender at 160. Ye just fought a blown up 154 and everybody is excited about what he did and now all of a sudden he is worthy for a Mayweatjer fight. First off the guy is to big. Next he actually needs to fight folks in his division. And if anything was learned from Payl Williams is that you will never be champion jumping from class to class claiming everybody is avoiding you. I like GGG but he needs to fight better comp

did we expect something else to happen…..

Agreed, not fair to put Mayweather in with a monster like GGG, Dude punches like Tyson…. Too big and strong….

Has anyone decent landed bombs on GGG yet? How as he looked? Does he have a good chin??

Mayweather is too small for these fights you guys are talking about. He should not fight Alvarez, Golovkin, or Martinez. These guys are all too big for Mayweather who is really a lightweight fighter who has come up to 147 and sometimes fights at 154 but when he does he steps into the ring his weight is at 149 or 150 pounds. Martinez makes weight at 160 but he steps into the ring at 168 or so. Golovkin makes weight at 160 but steps into the ring at 175 or so. And Alvarez makes weight at 154 but actually steps into the ring at 180 pounds. There is no way Mayweather can — or should — fight these guys. The weight difference is to big.

I would point out that Edwin La Bomba Rodriguez looked terrible in a hold-fest fight against an Argentinian fighter. Rodriguez had to resort to low blows out of frustration.

Love-the-Sport

Good news and not so good news for Golovkin. Good news is that he looked good against Ishida. His mechanics are very good. His punches looked sharp. He shows good power. He was throwing hard punches for 2-3 rounds and then he caught Ishida and it was basically a one-punch knockout — although his early work was solid. Less than good news is that Ishida had lost 3 out of his last 5 fights, Ishida only has one solid win (Kirkland), and Ishida is really a junior middleweight. So, it is not really an impressive win for Golovkin and for sure Ishida would not be considered an elite fighter. But Golovkin continues to look good and we would all hope that he continues to knock out fighters as he progresses. I am not ready to say that Golovkin is a hall of fame fighter yet. His level of opposition has been weak. He has really only fought junior middleweights (Ishida, Rosado, Ouma) so we don’t really know how he would do against some of the top middleweights. But it is great that his progress continues to be positive.

HHLondon: Don’t be such a jack-waggon my Monkey-May worshipping limey friend. I”ll be damn surprised if Monkey-May man’s up to fight Canelo, let alone faces SM or GGG if they dropping to to Jr. MW. Let’s get real…. Monkey-May needs to vacate his paper 154lbs title because he’s not serious about defending it. If Mayflower were really the so-callled GOAT, he wouldn’t even think twice about fighting SM or GGG at just 6 lbs heavier because sources tell us that he walks around at 165-170 lbs. Real Talk, son

Anyone who thinks Mayweather would beat Glovokin has no clue about the sport their just into the Mayweather hype that he’s the greatest which is false of course

Posted April 1, 2013 1:31 am

GGG has a good jab and some good fundamentals. He can go pretty far.

Posted April 1, 2013 1:17 am

HHLondon

Squared Circle, Floyd stepped to 154 to beat Oscar at his weight.

You probably still jerk off to Manny draggin Oscar down to 140 a year later.

“Now SM and GGG want to make the exact same move by taking a fight at 154lbs to face FM”.

So step down, make the weight in a tune up and let’s see what’s on offer.

How about BOTH drop the weight, fight each other and the winner get’s a shot at the champ!?

Let ‘em make weight!

Posted April 1, 2013 12:59 am

PEEJ

Golovkin has never even fought at 154 so until he has actually done that then mentioning his name with Floyds is just dumb. Floyd is not going to 160, So until he actually comes into a fight weighting in at 154 I don’t think he can make 154. So stop that talk,

We have to see how much Martinez has left after the Chavez fight — he took a number of huge thudding shots from a guy who was near cruiser weight size — for a guy Martinez’s age that sort of punishment really puts a lot of ring miles on a fighter. As it is, GGG is so well schooled, I think Martinez would have all he could handle, and then some. In some ways it would be like picking a winner between Donaire (would be played by Martinez) vs Rigo (played by GGG).

Posted March 31, 2013 9:45 pm

Zurdo40

Ishida is not the guy that ko Kirkland who ko angulo??? a 154 fighter?
May be is not an atg fighter but with that right hook ggg is a temible rival and nobody wants fight him.

Posted March 31, 2013 9:41 pm

PILLOWFIST

Who has GGG beat to make anyone think he just walks through Mayweather or Martinez? He is looks good, no question but, against lower case op. Personally I think he has enough skill and size to give Mayweather , who is in the twilight of his career, alot of trouble. Martinez is too slick and powerful for GGG. Intil he beats the hell out of someone of top caliber status, my opinion will not chnge.

Posted March 31, 2013 8:16 pm

Robert Griffith

No Peej. Asking Floyd to fight Hopkins or Ward is NOTHING like askisg him to fight Golovkin. In Golovkin, you have a man that has fought many times within recent memory at 154. Floyd has also fougfht a few times in the 154 range. Where as Ward has always been a super middel weight with little to no chance of even coming down to middleweight, much less junior middleweight. And Hopkins? Dude hasn’t fought at Middleweight in a decade. Much less Junior middle.

Point is, if Golovkin cuts down just one weight division, then he is right in the neighborhood in order to make a Floyd fight. Of course at this stage in Mayweathers career, GGG would eventually break him down. Pound for pound Mayweather is probably better than Golovkin. But in a head to head fight, I don’t Mayweather has the type of pop to keep Golovkin off of him. Eventually Golovkin starts getting to him. And when he does, people will be reminded why youth and size are very important.

This guy will make mincemeat out of Martinez !!!

Posted March 31, 2013 7:05 pm

Once again you know you are a great fighter when they want you to fight fighters that are extremely bigger than you. So folks want to bring Golovkins name up with Floyd, why? There is no way that fight could happen. Might as well have Floyd fight Hopkins or Ward, na they are to small, lets go with one of the Klitchkos

horst fraze

can anybody be surprised at the outcome of the golovkin vs ishida fight? this guy did not belong in the same city let alone the same ring. not trying to belittle ishida, but come on.

Posted March 31, 2013 7:02 pm

Dan

To all the folks that think Mayweathers defense would save him against Golovkin, sorry, Golovin is just as smart and as well seasoned as Mayweather and I don’t believe he takes a punch as well as Golovkin. It would only take a couple of good pops to put Mayweather on his bicycle, Mayweathers bike would not work against this kid. This kid would hunt him down and put him to sleep. Meathweathers counters and defense? This Kid is quicker and would have Mayweather eating leather all night long.
That fact is the fight will never take place becuase Mayweather would look foolish against this kid and I think he understands this.

GGG is mini gorilla who hits like a rhino and moves like a mongoose. He is amazing.

Posted March 31, 2013 3:38 pm

Zurdo40

Im totally in agree, Floyd master defense will nullify GGG mainly with the smart move of NEVER FIGHT HIM. Floyd doublty fight against Canelo. Golovkin could fight with both at the same time. Please be honest with yourself. ALL WE KNOW Floyd knows how to select opponents (past prime, smaller, slower and lack of power). Even a prime Floyd would not fight Golovkin. Floyd will not fight GGG. never.

Posted March 31, 2013 3:05 pm

Squared-Circle (a.k.a. LionKing)

Mayweather will NEVER risk his precious O by fighting a super well-rounded undefeated KO powerhouse like GGG. 375 fights and he has never once touched the canvas. This guy has quality guard and an iron chin. It’s simply too dangerous for Floyd to even consider at this point. So we can speculate for years, but it will never happen. Gatti, with his 9 losses, was good and a joy to watch… but was not a top-echelon, A+ caliber fighter. With Triple G, we are looking at the current WBA & IBO champ and the future unified, undisputed MW champion of the world.

Posted March 31, 2013 2:54 pm

PILLOWFIST

@MMendoza~ GGG is tough and his flaw can be fixed. If you notice GGG keeps his hands just below his chin and when he throws his jab he brings his hands up just before he unleashes. A highly skilled fighter like Mayweather will pick up on this and GGG will never be in the correct position to land anything significant on May. May did this against Gatti. May explained that Gatti would jab soft and when he was going to throw the right after his jab , he would jab real hard. May picked up on the early in the first round and we all know what happened in that fight. I think the verdict is still out on weather GGG is as good as Gatti, I say he’s better and May is much older, so it would be a very interesting matchup.

Posted March 31, 2013 2:32 pm

MMendoza

PILLOWFIST: Totally agree. GGG is no match for Mayweather’s defense master machine. We just saw what boxing skills can do in the Alvarado win over Rios — although Alvarado’s face looked like a smashed can of tomatoes spilling out of the can — still — have to appreciate his boxing himself out of Rios’s brutal stalking power punching. In Mayweather vs. GGG — the odds are greater that GGG’s face who will show more damage.

Posted March 31, 2013 2:10 pm

PILLOWFIST

@Dan~ Mayweather would nullify Golovkins offense within the first 30 seconds of the fight. If I noticed Golovkins major flaw, I know Mayweather would too. Golovkin has been able to get away with it because of the lessor opponents he’s faced. Once he jumps up in compitition , A level boxers will capitalize off of this flaw.

my god forget Ward he’s like Hopkins so boring

Posted March 31, 2013 1:14 pm

Dan

This guy is scary good, he maintains his balance, he takes a good shot, he is as quick as a cat, has good reflexes and fighter instinct, and OMG on top of that he is strong! Wow does he ever pack a punch! I would love to see this guy in the ring with Mayweather. That would be a fight and I don’t believe that Mayweather would stand up to his power, Mayweather wouldn’t be able to backpedal against this guy, Golvokin would track him down and make him fight and it wouldn’t be a pretty picture.. I would hate to see him fight Alverez because I really don’t want either fighter to lose and one of these guys would have to fall. Anyway, love this guy and look forward to more fights.

Just look the speed with he throw that right hook… it will very dificult avoid that through 12 rounds. May be Klitchko.

Posted March 31, 2013 8:56 am

Zurdo40

GGG would destroy Martinez, Chavez and anybody… except Pretty Floyd, cause Floyd never fought or would fight against somebody like GGG.

Posted March 31, 2013 8:49 am

afreebird@hotmail.com

I am sure many of said it before, but it bears repeating. GGG does not go to the body nearly enough on his opponents. Once he faces a natural MW i.e. Quillan, Barker, Geale, Martinez, etc. GGG will need to take some steam out of their fight early and the body attack has to be the plan. GGG doesn’t move his head enough either. The speed and movement of a Martinez would befuddle him.

Posted March 31, 2013 6:54 am

Squared-Circle (a.k.a. LionKing)

Triple G’s trainer, Sanchez, says he hits harder than most HWs. And after seeing him KO several guys, including Lucian Bute with headgear on, I’m starting to believe it. Say what you want about Ishida, but he had never been KO’d in 35 pro bouts. That means that he does not have a glass jaw. Watch GGG’s KO wins over both Ishida and Proksa — it looks like they both fell down and died after getting nailed. Team Golovkin’s biggest problem at this point is finding top-ranked opponents who will actually sign a contract. Keep calling this guy “hype,” but he will KO or smash Maravilla, Chavez and Kid Chocolate if given the chance. Mark my words, boxing fans.
