Oh yeah, IMHO, I think both of these guys would starch Amir. Lets face it Khan has boxing skills and good ring generalship yes, but he has a glass jaw, Rios would probably have a little trouble but Alvarado would KO Khan within 6. Just sayin.

U, my brotha, been lookin’ into that fire for far too long! Last fight u called right was Danny Bonnaducci over Vanilla Ice on Fox’s Celebrity Boxing!! Great call my man!!

IMHO RIOS vs ALVARADO showed us all just why RIOS will never be a great fighter.

I was truly impressed in his ability to take flush shots, but this same ability is his undoing. He never slipped a punch all night long and against the elite boxers at 140 and above this flaw will be brutally exposed.

He may be a fan favourite, but i see nothing in his ability to change up his game, to cut off the ring or merely to execute a fight plan successfully that will see him hang with the likes of a DINAMITA or a BRONER for that matter.

Dude took a beating from a guy who would be hard pushed to hang with the likes of a Khan, Maidana etc…

IMHO Rios, whilst exciting is going nowhere and after that beating, fast!

Statistics are statistics for a reason. Compubox has its uses but I can SEE the fight for MYSELF and I call it how I see it. The action unfolds before my eyes, weeks before the first bell has been rung. THE GREATEST FIGHT PROPHET OF ALL TIME doesn’t need statistics for I have greater knowledge and skill!!!

Boxtra…the fella who puts so much faith in his beloved COMPUBOX stats…what a joke…haven’t you heard, that’s the same technology that RUINED AMATEUR BOXING and is now being rightfully thrown out of the amateurs and the Olympics…but you my friend, keep smokin’ that COMPUBOX PIPE and be forevermore enslaved by STUPIDITY!!

Rios disrespected Alvarado by continuously interrupting the Interview Alvarado was having with the HBO commentator.. He was embarrassing and showed no class in doing that to Alvarado during his Interview. All Rios had to do was just wait for his turn to talk and then say what he had to say instead of Crashing Alvarados Interview and trying to mess it up…

Rios needs a real trainer to teach him how to box just sending this kid in the ring with this warrior bs attitude is going to end his career fast

this was not boxing this was two dudes with no boxing skills fighting not boxing . rios is starting to sound dumber and dumber every time he talks these shots may be taking there toll

CAM -I have to agree with you…Rios didn’t plan well for last night’s fight..he thought he was gonna lure Mike Alvarado into another dogg fight but he was wrong..Mile-high gotz what it takes to make adjustments and box for 12 rounds as he showed in the Presscott fight.

Posted March 31, 2013 8:52 pm

Mike had to do some soul searching no doubt, congrats to him. Rios took some bombs too, what a treat. Mike stuck to his game plan, his corner and trainers are World Class. So is Robert Garcia, both camps..A+. Rios is one tough Mexican. Can’t say anything but thank you to both fighters. I hope they got paid well, they earned every penny.

Great night for boxing….for the first fight only a boxing purist can understand that fight, not your typical fight fan that never laced up a pair of gloves. Second Rios lost that fight but he did not lose the war. His physicality allows him to take harder punishment than Alvarado. He did not plan well for this fight. Rios can beat Alvarado by forcing a fight. He was not able to cut off the ring and his timing was off on the counter right. He can adjust and beat Alvarado but he will loose to a pure boxer.

I’m pretty sure that the huge cut above Alvarado’s eye was from a clash of heads. Plus he just marks easier because he was landing some bombs on Rios. Brandon is full of crap saying he never got rocked… He almost got put down twice.

The only way rios wins a rematch is if he waits for rado to get ko’d and then fights him. He really got beat up last night. I can’t see him making any adjustments to his style and rado now has the belief that if he sticks to his game plan he will win. Great fight but and I hope these guys can make some money and not be manipulated and used up by arum.

To get buckled seriously by a jab, from a guy who doesn’t have a good jab, Alvarado has less tread on the tires. This is due to his style and an accumulation of punishment. Rios’ style and mentality lends himself to even greater punishment and virtually no capacity to adapt. At some point soon, the tread on Rios’ tires will fade very rapidly!! This will be only compounded by his inability to walk away. Sooner than people think, Rios will be skidding and sputtering through his life like a paranoid Louis in a Vegas hotel room with the shades drawn shut and the AC at 50, like Patterson in NY not being able to recall months on the job as Athletic Commissioner, like Wilfred Benitez in an old folks home not remembering he ever was a fighter…wait a minute…awful comparison…these men were real champions!! Rios is just a loud mouthed punk!!

Posted March 31, 2013 3:45 pm

Luke

On second thought Rios, don’t duck and weave…don’t even move your head…just keep walking straight in, absorbing leather and depleting whatever brain cells are left. To real fighters, real Mexican fighters, leather tastes good!! Mexican heroes walk straight in there like real men. Rios, if you can’t win like that you just aren’t man enough, nor Mexican enough! If you can’t do it the ‘right’ way then pack it in and go away!!

Wow…I hate to resort to name-calling but Paul, you’re an idiot. Dude won the fight! He made corrections from the first fight and was successful. You think Robert Garcia is the only trainer who looks at film? Like Alvarado’s not gonna do his homework or something? Fake ass journalist. Wow.

Rios isn’t that difficult to outbox (as Alvarado isn’t that great a “boxer” but thta’s just what he did … he was also outboxing him much of the first fight). I can easily see a repeat defeat for Rios

Posted March 31, 2013 3:05 pm

correction: i don’t think that Rios is even carrying 140lbs that well. a move to 147lbs looks or should be imminent.

Posted March 31, 2013 2:55 pm

Alvarado executed the only fight-plan he could to defeat Rios. there were some lapses but Alvarado’s displays remarkeable resilience, including from punches that don’t have the effect they would have on most other fighters. not to mention the Rios shots that buckled Alvarado but not even Rios could make those moments count. in fact, there were at least a couple of moments in this fight when it seemed that it couldn’t possibly go the distance. Btw,, i don’t think that Rios is even carrying 147lbs that well. a move to 147lbs looks or should be imminent. conversely, Alvarado looked in peak form. how much of that form is left after last night should be tested v. someone like Garcia. that’s the matchup i’d like to see.

If Rios wants a better chance at winning next time, he needs a more sustained attack to the body to slow Alvarado down and get him to stop moving as much…I’d like to see Rios duck and weave more and then turn some of that defense into offense….mostly, I’d like to see Rios get KTFO – I’ll never 4give him for mocking Roach and the Parkinson’s episode. RIOS’ STYLE HIGHLY LENDS ITSELF TO ACQUIRING PARKINSON’S and DEMENTIA!!!!!!!’

“Alvarado doesn’t have the foot speed needed”

Didn’t have enough speed of foot to stay out of extended exchanges with Rios?!! Uhh, yeah!
Didn’t he have the smarts not to stay in front of Rios for too long?!! Uhh, yeah!!

These are the reasons he won the fight shi* for brains writer!!

PitBull Petrill

This was an epic fight. I don’t know who wins but Rios was more concerned with a twitter war with Broner.

BeisBall: Rios speaks broken pocho Spanish himself. Robert Guerrero can’t really speak Spanish either. So I don’t see what his point would be in that. Anyway, neither are real Mexicans, since that’s a nationality and nothing more. These American fighters need to stop that nonsense.

Posted March 31, 2013 1:40 pm

Q

Paul Strass is always writing some poorly done nonsense on here, lol. Always. Well, my opinion is that Alvarado was outboxing Rios in the first bout, and in the second bout he outboxed him, HURT HIM bad, and won a fairly clear decision after being hurt bad in the second round. I also became easier down the stretch. This all leads me to believe that Alvarado wins the 3rd bout as well. He knows he can hurt Rios, he knows he can out box him, and he knows he can survive Rios best stuff even after being hurt early. Rios needs some class however. He really made an ass out of himself at the end of that bout, that was embarrassing.

Robert

Rios takes to long to get his punches off, he has to be body to body an then waits about 3 seconds before he throws, if he can learn to nch while coming forward he would be as much of a beast from outside as he is inside.

Andre Ward was there in the crowd. He was thinking ” all my combined fights put together and it’s still not as exciting as this fight ” lol !!!!

No question the writer is a Rios’ fan and perhaps feels hurt by the end result. The fact that he gives more credit to Rios from losing the fight than for Alvarado on winning it said it all.

Nevertheless, Alavarado deserves lots of credit…he said he was going to box more this time around and he stuck to the plan. Rios is more of a dimensional fighter – comes forward, puts a lot of pressure on his opponent and takes a lot of punishment in return – it’s not too difficult to come up with a plan to beat him.

On the other hand, Rios, and perhaps his corner, were too confident, to the point they were looking past Alvarado. They were even talking PcQuiao a few weeks before the fight. There’s no reason why fighters should have future plans, but not to the point of overlooking their opponents.

As for a third fight, I don’t count on Rios wining it either. It sure could go either way, but just as Rios has a chance of reviewing the fight so does Alvarado. There isn’t a lot Rios can do as his style is set, but Alavardo style is more versatile. I believe he’ll beat Rios by a larger margin.

Alvarado was in better shape and it showed in the late rounds. Rios was pushing his punches and could not keep up with Alvarado. Rios landed some great body shots early that would have shown up in the late rounds if Alvarado was not in top shape. I stil like rios infight #3.rios will win if he is biter prepared.

Great win for Alvarado, Rios is a sore loser and said that Alvarado was not a real Mexican before the first fight because he didn’t speak spanish.. The idiot has ZERO class.

Rios isn’t going to change much. He is who he is. He is and always will be a pressure fighter. Not even sure he has many places he can even through in a wrinkle or two. Good enough to make a living if he isn’t being too stupid with his money.

Some guys bust up faster after taking a bottle to the face before the fights too. Didn’t shock me to see it. Alvrado isn’t known to be a model citizen.

The Mad Scientist

Congratz to Mike Alvarado..I didn’t think he had it in him to outbox Rios through out the duration of the fight but he did..not like it mattered but did Rios look bigger and stronger in this second fight against Mike Alvarado or was it just me seeing things..anyway, I’m glad Mike won, he deserves to move forward with his career and make good money in the process..Bam-bam can also continue with his own career and learn how to cut the ring off better..Rios once said if it ain’t broken don’t fix it, well its broken now fix it.

Alvarado beat his ass. Some people just mark up easier than other whats so hard to understand about that?

Not sure what fight was being watched by the writer in this fight. Some guys get busted up easier than others, their blood appearance should never determine the way a fight is determined. Alvarado was the clear winner, Rios will have a punchers chance, 9 out of 10 times the winner of the second fight wins the third, it is not a coincidence that almost each time the boxer gets the best of the puncher. Great fight, but clearly in favor of Mike. Rios will not win if he does not become a better boxer/puncher.

Rios was schooled by Abril, just didn’t have honest judges in that fight. Last night was very close but I though Alvarado got a clear decision. The third fight can go either way. If Alvarado sticks to his game plan he can win, otherwise Rios appears to always win a slug fest.

Rios was out boxed and at times out classed by Alvarado. Rios still a dangerous fighter but will always have trouble with boxers and guys that will take him deep into a fight.

umm maybe i was tired but i could of swore alvarado was the one with bounce in his feet with his face beat up and rios never had a mark on his face but looked like he was stuck in mud
