I’m with nicholas, Ward Martinez at a catch weight around 164 seems fair. It’s more interesting than Chavez.Posted April 3, 2013 11:29 am
Easy win for Ward. Chavez brings nothing to the table that Ward hasn’t seen in the last 3 years with the super 6 and Dawson. Chavez is slow handed, plodding, and walks straight forward… easy night for Ward. Chavez has power, but so did the guys in the super six – and they were so much better than Chavez.Posted April 3, 2013 11:26 am

Thanks Junior bro.. I did actually write a reply to your post already but one of the mods deleted it so they could steal some of my jokes again. It’s happened so many times now it’s getting to the point when I’m seriously contemplating tracking the thieving little git down and executing them gangland style. Double-barrel to the side of their head.. Boom! A blood red Jackson Pollock painting all over their living room wall. lol
Anyway, Hertfordshire is a beautiful part of the country to go for a wee cycle. And Rule Britannia indeed.. and long live the King. King Daddy Golovkin!
PS. Hope your ass gets better soon. lolPosted April 3, 2013 11:02 am
Here is an idea, what about a couple of rematches on neutral grounds, in the Smw division, and not a fat mexican clubfighter, from a different division.
Most of the top 10 Smw would easily beat a drained Chavez Jr, coming of a break. I for one, am not the slightest bit impressed with Mr. Chavez Jr.
The thing is that if Ward wanted to be finally recognized, he would give Kessler/Froch a rematch on neutral grounds, or move to Lhw, to take on the best people there.
Furthermore, he would stop fighting, on his own doorstep. Maybe then someone would recognize him. But it doesn’t look like he wants to fight on equal terms.Posted April 3, 2013 4:03 am
The only way I see WARD getting any PPV acknowledgement at this juncture is by taking a RISK. He would have to move up and fight lets say HOPKINS!!!! Just my opinion!!!!!!Posted April 3, 2013 2:31 am
If Ward takes this fight; I personally would lose all respect for him. No fan wants to see this nonsense. If Martinez could outbox him; what do you think Ward would do to him who is a boxing technician; and put in the fact that Chavez Jr. would AGAIN be draining himself to make weight. Anyone can look at him and see he walks around weight somewhere in the neigborhood of 190-200 pounds. Sorry NOT INTERESTED IN THIS ONE. Him beating Chavez Jr. would prove NOTHING!!!!! He is basically looking for a payday off of a NAME. Is this the only way WARD can get acknowledgement as a PPV FIGHTER????????Posted April 3, 2013 2:30 am
Yes, this fight will be made so Bob Arum can make some more money off of the delusional patriotism of Mexican fight fans. Everyone else will not be entertained. It will be an execution.Posted April 3, 2013 1:26 am
Man, those Steriods have really done a number on this imbecile… Looks like a bloated coyote…Posted April 2, 2013 10:54 pm
“Chavez is just a PIRANHA”?? LOL more like a chubby BlowFish….Posted April 2, 2013 7:32 pm
Ward is a SHARK in the game and Chavez is just a PIRANHA. Ward by late stoppage or DOMINANT UD.Posted April 2, 2013 7:18 pm
Andre ward is the best in boxing present time who else is there for him . I would like to see Sergio go up and fight him.or pretty boy at catch weight.Posted April 2, 2013 4:21 pm
I agree with KennethDK on his comment about seeing Ward fight Froch or Kessler in there home countires. Only the boxing idiot in my feeling wants to see Ward against Chavez Jr. Though I don’t see early knockout, I can’t help but think of it reminding me of Holmes-Marvis Frazier. Also, I do agree with a post that suggests Ward fight Dawson at light heavyweight.Posted April 2, 2013 3:05 pm
Kessler wants a rematch with Ward and has said so on several occassions – It’s the only reason Kessler still fights. He thinks he can beat Ward if the fight is in Denmark or on neutral ground – I think Ward is too fast for both Kessler and Froch.
MK- What are you talking about? Ward has basically cleaned out the 168lb division: Froch, Kessler, Bika, Abraham… and beat the 175 pound champ Dawson. Who is he cherry picking exactly?Posted April 2, 2013 1:22 pm
It’s hard for me to understand why Ward has so many detractors and flat out haters, but no matter what he does those people will find something to criticize. It’s a shame that he is so good nobody calls him out or wants to fight him. Whoever he considers fighting people say he’s cherrypicking, even to the point where he is coming off of a shoulder surgery and looking to fight Chavez Jr. and still being criticized! WTF? Chavez Jr. is still a big bad-ass S.O.B. that has destroyed everyone in his path, with his only loss being to #3 P4P Martinez. A fight between Ward and Jr. would be even more exciting than Jr./Martinez because the ONLY way Maravilla won that fight was by effectively running and choosing spots to punch and continue running. We all know that Ward will not run from Chavez Jr. and will probably try to make the big bull back-up himself, which will give Chavez Jr. all the chances in the world to implement all of his size, power and chin attributes that Maravilla strategically denied him to use. Styles make fights and Ward’s & Jr.’s styles make a great match for the fans, and I for one hope that Ward’s shoulder holds up in a big physical fight like that one, because he will certainly need all of his strength and power while trying to out bully the bull. I hope this fight happens and if the rest of you pull your heads out of your asses you will see a good fight too.Posted April 2, 2013 11:19 am
This Ward vs Chavez Jr fight, must be down to it being April. I simply don’t believe that Ward can cherry pick one more time.
The thing is that I can’t with certainty say that it could not happen. The Ward camp could actually pick a slow overweight (fat) mexican, coming of a break and a loss, take him up a division and drag him to Oakland, whilst calling Ward vs Chavez Jr, the fight of the year.
I must admit that I hadn’t even thought of this fight as a possibility. Most fight fans are probably thinking, isn’t it about time, Ward takes on a fighter, in top condition, on neutral grounds. I mean its getting ridiculous.
I hope this is down to it being April …Posted April 2, 2013 10:55 am
Shame on Ward for calling out Chavez and not MartinezPosted April 2, 2013 10:39 am
I understand where Ward is coming from, he needs a big name opponent to broaden his market base. Not saying what he did in the Super Six was nothing short of remarkable, but stateside, none of those fighters have the fan base that Chavez Jr has. Aside from Martinez, no real big names in around 160-168, unless he moves up to light heavy and challenges Hopkins. Chavez Jr may be a big 160 lbr, but he doesnt carry the strength or pop to beat Ward. He’s too one dimensional, and given what Martinez was able to do, more technically sound, better defensive fighter in Ward would stop him inside of 12 rounds.Posted April 2, 2013 9:13 am
Nice post Gonzo, i do enjoy your rants.
Gutless. What, did you watch Martinez-Chavez and say to yourself “goddamn, as the best p4p fighter in the world and the son of god himself, I’m gonna fight the LOSER of this”? This is only marginally better than trying to fight Kelly Pavlik. Time is moving on Andre, better make some fights people actually care about before it’s too latePosted April 2, 2013 7:36 am
Not a terrible fight for SOG. Ward’s so highly thought of that no matter who he fights fans will say he’s the heavy favorite, i imagine it will do good PPV figures but Chav is coming off a one sided loss, would it not make more sense for him to somewhat rebuild his rep first?
There’s nothing left @ 168, why not clear out 175?Posted April 2, 2013 7:20 am
Ward is a very good boxer, no doubt, but for goodness sake he really needs to fight outside of Oakland. He will never get a fanbase if he just fights on his doorstep and, perhaps more importantly, he will never truly get the respect. Froch goes all over the place as do many other fighters. Even in the Super 6 Ward got home advantage.Posted April 2, 2013 6:12 am
Jnr would make a nice easy payday ($1M) to test the shoulder. A return fight with Dawson at his weight for his title would be interesting but I would really like to see SOG vs Maravilla.Posted April 2, 2013 5:56 am
and i’m sure Ward if caught flush can be KO’d.Posted April 2, 2013 4:34 am
*Chavez that is .)Posted April 2, 2013 4:34 am
He’s had too many taco’s fat pig should be a heavyweight.Posted April 2, 2013 4:33 am
Peej I dont think Kessler wants it but Froch would if it was in England, he travelled to fight Ward when Ward was an unknown fighter he should return the Favour and fight Froch in Nottingham, that’s what a real champ would do, maybe he doesn’t qualify for a passport who knows.Posted April 2, 2013 4:32 am
Boo Ward Boo
Maybe Ward could fight Dawson at Light Heavy? Maybe Ward could fight overseas? Nup, he can’t because he is a PUNK!!!Posted April 2, 2013 3:54 am
Squared-Circle (a.k.a. LionKing)
Jr. is way too big to be fighting at 160lbs. They should ban the super diuretics and other “mystery” substances he uses to drop 30lbs before weigh-ins. No need to rematch Maravilla, so he should fight GGG next or just move to LHW, as it’s a pretty weak division right now. But Jr. should stay away from Sergey Kovalev if he doesn’t want to get KTFO.Posted April 2, 2013 3:12 am
Did his head grow like Pacquaios ( Arizza Shake )Posted April 2, 2013 12:05 am
Lman- I agree. A Dawson vs Ward at lightheavy is a must, however can’t blame both guys 4 wanting a tune up. That’s all Chavez would b 4 Ward. Bit funny how Ward said there’s 2 much size diff between he and Sergio but wants Chavez jr. I no Chavez has size over Sergio but it’s clear 2 me Andre no’s he will whoop Chavez and get casht up in doing so. Ward is a diff level 2 jrPosted April 1, 2013 11:30 pm
What about returning the favour to Dawson and fighting him at his weight for his beltPosted April 1, 2013 11:05 pm
Soyeb your first sentence is spot on in a profound way. Ward has beat all the SMW guys and none of them deserve a rematch. He beat the brakes off of Bika and I’m glad talk of him being Ward’s next “mandatory” has tapered off. You’re right about Chavez Jr. – he should just skip 168 and go after any of the broken horses at Light Heavy. I can’t think of a single LHW who can retreat and use gorilla tactics as well as Sergio so let the battles begin! Plus, Jr. may be suspended but had there been a 13th round – Martinez would have been leaving that fight on a stretcher. So yeah, why lose the weight – just go to Light Heavy and chase the bigger guys. I’m certain a Chavez vs. Ward audience doesn’t even care if they are both LHW’s on weight -in day.Posted April 1, 2013 11:00 pm
He looks like he had an allergic reaction to peanuts.. or bee stings.. his head is HUGE! fker needs to lay off of the Taco Supremes…Posted April 1, 2013 9:46 pm
Good comeback fight for Ward after the layoff. What better way to remind people how great you are, than by mopping the floor with the sports most pampered boxer.Posted April 1, 2013 9:38 pm
Ward would destroy Chavez jr….not even close.Posted April 1, 2013 8:24 pm
IF Chavez Jr. takes the Fight it’ll be NO contest. Even Martinez would LOSE to Ward and Martinez just out Boxed Chavez Jr. 11 rounds to ONE. Ward is #2 P4P and Chavez is #0. EASY Fight to predict.Posted April 1, 2013 8:17 pm
everybody knows soggy is a bible banging bum triple bPosted April 1, 2013 6:38 pm
That pic of chavez looks a little like beatle juicePosted April 1, 2013 6:29 pm
Problem is Froch nor Kessler want to fight Ward as they have said before. So no point in doing thatPosted April 1, 2013 5:58 pm
sbf must be a April fool joke right enough lol.Posted April 1, 2013 5:55 pm
Looks like Ward is really struggling for opponents, scraping the barrel there, what about looking out your passport and travelling to Europe to take on the winner of the Froch vs Kessler rematch, nay you say? just as I thought…Posted April 1, 2013 5:54 pm
Swedish Boxing Fan
Yeah April 1 joke :-) Couse Andre Ward would not get any challange from fighting Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Ward should go for conqering the other recognised world title belts (WBO and IBF).Posted April 1, 2013 5:40 pm
Ward/Chavez is big mismatch but will make money, Andre Ward might get one million dollar purse for the first time.Posted April 1, 2013 5:19 pm
I’d put the odds of Chavez beating Ward at about 100-1. Horrible mismatch. Of course, that’s not bad for Ward, he’d still get paid. But contrary to the writer’s opinion, I’d rather see Ward vs Martinez. That’s interesting, but won’t happen cause Martinez is small for a middlweight and won’t move up to fight Ward, who won’t move down to fight Martinez. Too bad.Posted April 1, 2013 4:29 pm
I thought ward/dawson was at a catch weight 170? chavez vs pirog or GGG would be interesting. Wherever Chavez goes he should be tested big time. Even the late Steward questioned the methods used in the lee fight. No way chavez would box ward. He would have to go to Oakland.Posted April 1, 2013 4:27 pm
Personally I would love to see Ward KO Chavez Jr. and he will if they ever fight but as noted that will not happen. The author makes two very good points. The first is that Arum will never let that happen as long as Chavez makes him money. Second, Chavez will not have the 20+ pounds weight advantage that he usually has over his opponents.
Alvarez will be exposed by Trout and Chavez was already exposed by Martinez. This is what happens when fighters are given soft opposition and then they face real competition. Chavez is a coward in my opinion. If he had any character, he would move up in weight and face opponents his own size.Posted April 1, 2013 4:14 pm
Mad Scientist – I agree with you on that one..Posted April 1, 2013 4:07 pm
Chavez Cheato Jr. is the poster child for why you should not stay on Steriods for too long.. smoking dope doesn’t help either.. he’s blowing up faster then Slutty Kim kardashian after getting knocked up by Conyeh….Posted April 1, 2013 4:06 pm
The Mad Scientist
This a mismatch, I rather Chavez Jr fight triple G.Posted April 1, 2013 4:05 pm
I rather see Ward take on Matinez any time, Chavez is to one dimeensional. Martinez would pose a lot more problems for Ward.Posted April 1, 2013 4:04 pm
fker looks like he has two Chihuahuas in his Cheeks.. you know he’s been eating alot of that Mexican fried food.. Serious case of the Marijuana Munchies…Posted April 1, 2013 4:04 pm
Who took that picture of Jr.?? Dude looks like he’s been eating fatback & collars since getting his ass whooped. Hey Jr. lay off the donuts, you starting to look like cop…… hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaPosted April 1, 2013 3:56 pm
Ward would absolutely dismantle Jr. Ward’s skillset is leaps and bounds above Chavez’s and no amount of chin would enable Chavez to pull off a win against Andre. I’d like to see the fight though because I’d like to see Chavez fight at a higher weight.Posted April 1, 2013 3:46 pm
big mike – It would be humiliating for GGG….he better not even think about it.Posted April 1, 2013 3:44 pm
This has to be an April fools joke ’cause Ward would absolutely DESTROY Chavez…he’d do it FAR, FAR easier than Martinez did.Posted April 1, 2013 3:43 pm
Come on Big Mike, Ward would massacre Golovkin!Posted April 1, 2013 3:28 pm
I’d like to see Ward against Golovkin.Posted April 1, 2013 3:09 pm
high reward, no risk for ward.Posted April 1, 2013 2:55 pm
I think Chavez Jr. should just move up to LHW, start with a Tavoris Cloud fight and if he wins, move on from there. There are a lot of interesting fights for him at 175: Cloud, Pascal, Dawson, Cleverly, Bute, B-Hop, Stevenson.Posted April 1, 2013 2:46 pm
Ward is trying to get paid,i think it’s def about time he did the mans arguably the best fighter in the sport today so hey why not?….yezzzir!Posted April 1, 2013 2:45 pm
Ward doing a bit of Cherry-picking i see.Posted April 1, 2013 2:32 pm
It’s about Strategy and career damage control.. another humiliating loss to older naturally smaller Martinez would be a Career ender.. a loss even lop sided humiliating loss to Ward could be explained away because Cheato Jr. was naturally smaller then ward and could allow Cheato Jr. to continue fighting smaller less dangerous opponents.Posted April 1, 2013 2:29 pm
COMPLETE NONSENSE. Why would a P4P elite fighter in WARD want to take on a glorified Club Fighter in Chavez Jnr, whose only advantage at Middleweight was to outmuscle and outweigh his more talented rivals.
Against Ward he will not have this advantage and will be far outweighed in his lack of skills that this will prove to be a massacre.
If this is not an April Fool’s joke, then it damn well ought to be!!!!
Ward smashes this fraud in less than 5, one-sided and very painful rounds!Posted April 1, 2013 2:24 pm
Chavez will get pounded, anybody at 168 beats Chavez.Posted April 1, 2013 2:20 pm
Goes to show you that Chavez Jr’s camp wants nothing to do with another humiliating loss to Sergio Martinez who demanded Drug testing and weight gain restrictions on this admitted Cheater… Looks like he’s weighing over 200lbs in that picture.. eating way too many deep fried Chihuahuas…Posted April 1, 2013 2:16 pm
Ward = boringPosted April 1, 2013 2:12 pm
Dawson was weight drained in the Ward fight. Not saying he would of won, but it would of made a more competive fight. The Kessler fight Ward cheated all nite long. As for Chavez Jr Ward will be him but it will be another Ward boring fight.Posted April 1, 2013 2:11 pm
