You say Arum will do anything to get rid of golden boy, what is he waiting for? Oscar an golden boy quickly caught an passed top rank an their only getting stronger. Look at their stable of fighters golden boy has the better, look an the boxing cards they put on golden boy cards are stacked. This coming month alone is better the what top rank will put on all year.

Here it goes. The battle of the Promoters. Arum is licking his lips for this kind of stuff. He will do anything he can to get rid of Golden Boy, and Oscar the fishnet hose man.

Anselmo Moreno, Abner Mares an even Joseph Agbeko are more proven an qualified fighters then Rigondeaux is at this point.

Rigo is not qualified for this fight, that is the exact reason Arum an Nonito took it. They named a dance after Nonito from the 80′s Nonito is the running man lol.

Based on the bad relationship between Top Rank and Golden Boy, as well as HBO’s current stance with Golden Boy, I have a hard time seeing this fight being made in the forseeable future.

Why not bump Donaire up in weight? The guy has the power and size to move up. They either need to unify or go after bigger fighters. Arum is a lot of things, but he isn’t shy about fighters moving up in class.

Rigo is a completely better fighter than Donaire. What a surpise this coming fight. What for a knockout

Typo – Alvarado

Arum said he is willing to do it on HBO, and that still isn’t good enough for you? Mares isn’t a draw, Donaire may be a bigger draw but he isn’t a draw either. THATS why you do it on HBO. HBO is the draw. They have the subscriber base.

Donaires NOT running from anyone he called out Mares post Arce and has Rigo reading to get drubbed, Mares is an EASIER fight with his come forward style and average at best power.. Anyone who knows boxing understands that Arum and GBP will never work together until someone dies…

lvthefightgame

mares is not in the same class as rigo & donaire either would beat him. i see a lot of people think donaire is going to win easy over rigo i think people really need to wake up donaire has never faced any body like rigo & vice versa so i see this as a chess match. & as for rigo chin not being tested you can make the same case for donaire how will he hold up if he gets caught with that rigo uppercut or worse that lethal body shot. i think rigo’s going render nonitos left hook inefective & pich him off all night. should be a great fight cant wait cheers.

Rigo has very little chance in his fight with Donaire. Great fight that had to be made but Rigo doesn’t handle lateral movement very well. He goes down sometime after the 7th from a left. Could be sooner if his chin [which isn't tested] isn’t up to the task.

PEEJ, boxing odds have little to do with a fighters resume and almost all to do with how is going to bet on who. Donaire is by far the bigger name and would come in as the favorite. I also think he would win in a pretty good bout. I also don’t think Mares resume is all that better, maybe lately but not over all.

Posted April 4, 2013 2:22 am

Trouble

Yeah. Donaire should fight him to try to rebuild himself after he gets beat by Rigondeaux. I’m sure he’ll claim he didn’t win because he broke his hand on Rigondeaux’s head in the first rd

Nonito has too much SKILLS, Boxing IQ, and FIREPOWER for Mares. Mares will end UP like Pacquiao running INTO a Power punch. Nonito by stoppage.

If they ever fight Nonito an Mares l think most will favor Nonito. I have seen enough of Abner Mares to know this guy is for real. Abner was a youngster l think 23 years old when he fought an beat a tough vet in Darchiyan. Just like in that first big fight he had been not only the underdog but the younger less experienced fighter yet still managed to get the win. Agbeko two times, Anselomo the supposed best pound for pound guy that couldn’t be hit, again Mares wins. The amazing thing about Abner he takes no easy fights, l only see Abner an Ward stepping up every fight.

PEEJ

I would think Mares would be the favorite going on there resumes alone. Mares has fought the harder comp, Donaire has been in showcase fight after showcase fight.

Donaire an Arum are running from Mares, we know they won’t fight Mares but hey atleast step up an fight Anselmo Moreno or Joseph Agbeko who Mares already beat easy. Those two guys arelegit top fighters in the division. Instead he fights Nishioka, Mathebula an now 12 pro fight rigondeaux lol. Tell me what had anyone of these over hyped Cubans have ever done in the pros? They build there name fighting amatur 6 to 10 yrs younger then them . Once they step up in the pro game their act at best. Rigo is a fraud Nonito knows it an thats why he’s fighting him not Mares.

Arum is full of it! He could have made a killing with Mayweather vs pacman

4th time in recent history maybe but the number is much bigger than that.

This is the 4th time Arum messed a great fight!

MARES IS A GOOD BOXER BUT AGAINST DONAIRE HE HAS NO CHANCE OF BEATING THIS GUY

First of all, Donaire is going to be defeated by by Rigondeaux. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Rigondeaux will out box and run circles around Donaire. His defense is better than any of you think. And his power will be a big surprise for Donaire. Forget the mares fight. Donaire has plenty of weaknesses and I’ve seen them in all of his fights. Rigondeaux is going to expose Donaire for nothing more than a one handed puncher that can’t handle boxers with movement. He gets hit quiet often, and he runs out of gas after round 6. He’s tried emulating the great Manny Pacquiao, but he’s going to fall short UNLESS Victor Conte has found a way to get the juice to him without being caught. Remember, Conte and Hereida come from the same cloth. Donaire will lose by unanimous decision.and will get dropped on the way.

TITOPA, i agree that Donaire must be favored v. Mares whose best chance is to successfully make Donaire work hard the first few rounds, drain the lethal edge off of his punches, and then apply the type of constant pressure that’s made him successful. however, surviving the first few rounds Aaand making Donaire work hard is key to a Mares win. otherwise, he gets tagged and dropped. perhaps even repeatedly. Donaire is not a puncher to challenge with your chin or jaw.

Nonito, like Golovkin, is a career ender . I like the courage of Mares, but low blows not withstanding, Abner like Rigo, will be just target practice for Donaire . Chris John is the only fighter, within Donaire’s weight range, that has a chance against him.

IF this matchup is confirmed, look for Arum to tap in to Donaire’s(?) fanbase by scheduling the bout on May 5 or September 16.

Posted April 3, 2013 6:53 pm

PEEJ

Sorry but Mares is the draw. This is typical Arum. If Mares said he would face him on HBO then Arum would then demand that he run the whole promotion which we already know GBP won’t allow

te tumbo – I agree!

I like Mares, but I don’t see him beating Donaire….he’s too much of a wild slugger. I’d like to see him win, but I don’t see it happening.

Abner “low blow” Mares lol

“[Mares] doesn’t enjoy 25 percent of the popularity Donaire enjoys” WTF is Arum talking about? Mares has the west-coast fanbase sewn-up. who and where is Donaire’s fanbase? nonetheless, a win over Rigondeaux will contribute to momentary fanbase parity between Donaire and Mares in the build-up to a proposed showdown. i’m confident that Donaire is willing and at least as confident that Mares is. the only sticking point is Arum. Donaire needs to dump that turd for his own sake.

Yeah just like his still building a stadium big enough for the Mayweather vs Pacquioa fight. Up yours Bob!

First Donaire must beat Rigondeaux… and that, of course, is far from certain, as we are talking boxing.

Posted April 3, 2013 4:17 pm

Boxtradamus

Of COURSE he IS. Because he has the WINNER. But I BET he won’t match Bradley, Pacquiao, Rios, or Alvarado vs Broner on HBO because he will have the LOSER.
