Can’t see Macklin going passed six in this one, he’s outgunned in all departments. Skill, stamina and chin, a friend saw Golovkins first pro fight and raved about this Russian kid that fought like a seasoned pro, he’s the real deal. 426 amateur and pro fights without touching the canvas would indicate good whiskers.
Golovin will stop Macklin and will do the same to Chavez Jn’r and Martinez, although I can’t see Martinez wanting much to do with him after he sees what he does to Macklin.

Hi UJelly?, Very nice comment! I think the biggest asset of M.M. is intensity that he would bring in… Golovkin is very good controlling the distance and pace. Punching going forward, counters going backward. It is a bit sad that fighting GGG becomes the matter of the guts only. After this win I wish to Gennady against one of the champs. Peter Quillin or Chavez would be hell of the fight!!!

This bout is a mere tuneup for GGG. Macklin has nothing to stop Gennady. Look for an early knockout and then read about how “brave” Mack was….it’s an old story.

Dont think its a good idea showing up at a gun fight with a Mack the knife…..see what i did there…

Fight Aficionado

Great to see GGG staying busy. This will be his third fight already this year, and it’ll only be the halfway point. More titlists should stay busy. Thing is Macklin is not a stay busy opponent, he’s a tough SOB.

The Mad Scientist

Someone let me know when the contract is sign for triple G to fight Chavez Jr, Sergio Martinez or a top 10 guy at 168lbs.

Both guys have a similar style but GGG does it with much more skill, power and percision. Macklin is a tailor made for Gennady. I’m expecting a KO for Golovkin around round 4.

Poor Matthew. I think it’s gonna take a little longer but Gennady is going to take him out nonetheless.

UJelly?

@Rocket : Yep, fully agree with you. The comparisons were just to say that they all use a “forward” style with similar goals, just that Golovkin does it with a very strong skillset (i.e. hence the points of difference you noted)… in other words, he does it ‘properly’ :P
And for the record, I actually think his defence is pretty strong when he actually uses it. He just has a habit of throwing it away when he loses respect for his opponents.

(And yep, I’m really hoping for a GGG/Geale fight… hopefully it’ll happen here in Oz so I can watch live!)

Good fight. Macklin is no mug, if gg can beat him it’s a good win on his record.

The Low Blow !

just saw a interview (BHOP) where apparently GGG threw him a challenge @ 175 “Hopkins talks Murat, accepts Golovkin’s challenge ” TUBE that to view it ..

GGG By knockout in late rounds

Good analysis UJelly. I still would find comparison to Chisora and Rios not quite right. Chisora’s body movement doesn’t look much like GGG’s footwork and ring generalship, it is different. Rios unfortunately is too sluggish and started to change only recently. He gets so many shots, I am really worried about his future health… Golovkin can still improve in many aspects of the game, but his main assets are: one punch knockout power in both hands in many ways, combinations, awesome body punching and exceptional balance. We might criticize him for ‘weak defence’, but look… it is always a risk when you intend to play an attack and assault game! This is an exciting style just like UJelly mentioned.

I hope Daniel Geale lands his next fight against Golovkin, so the hype arguments would go down. Gennady is a credible fighter, that gives and delivers beautiful boxing.

Woop Woop

Smoke and mirrors from GGG as usual. Macklin has 1 fight in over 12 months and his claim to fame is getting beat up by Martinez. GGG keeps running from the real title holders that earned their belts by beating the champs. Yet makes unrealistic call outs so he can claim they are ducking him. Keep beating on little guys GGG the suckers are jumping on the band wagon in droves.

UJelly?

@Titopa : Nah, I don’t think anything much will change Golovkin’s forward style. That’s just how he boxes (i.e. it goes all the way back to the amateurs where I saw him do the exact same thing to both Bute and Dirrell who both threw everything, including the kitchen sink, at Golovkin but failed to scathe him at all).
Outside of a few fights (like Ouma) where he obviously had no respect for the opponent’s power and just walked through them, his forward movement is actually very efficient. He wastes very little energy whilst his opponent is constantly forced to be “tense” and to be struggling for position. He’s not the only one to use this kind of style (i.e. guys like Rios or even Chisora are kind’ve crude versions of it), but he’s one of the best at it.

I wish Macklin took a good tune-up,hes been out of the ring and is coming off surgery. Will be a good solid fight…but Macklin should have played his hand smarter.

Exiting fight for sure and GGG’s firs real step up in opponent.

great matchup, winner here should get a shot at martinez or at least chavez jr.

This is a warm-up bout for GGG. Macklin won’t stand a chance of overcoming GGG’s power. He’s a top 20-ish fighter but not a title threat.

Titopa

Patrick2 – I agree. Another reason I believe he attacks is ’cause he knows (believes) he has power and most of the guys he’s fighting aren’t on his level…..let’s be honest, they’ve been smaller, weaker and simply, not as good…so he’s had it EASY when it comes to seeking and destroying. I’m anxious to see how well he can actually “box”, I’m just glad we’re finally seeing him get in the ring with a natural (good) 160lber.

Anybody knows what’s up with Pirog??

Posted April 11, 2013 5:09 pm

Patrick2

Macklin won’t be a pushover. And because of that I think you’ll see a GGG who spends more time boxing and less time destroying. I think GGG has been trying to make a statement by being super aggressive so he can quickly gain an audience to make some big money — not a bad idea when you’re still “fresh” to the pros and already 30 years old. So I think many will be surprised to see a GGG slipping punches and displaying some good defensive skills.

Apart from being very impressed with GGG as a fighter, I’m even more impressed with how regularly he is fighting. I think this is the 3rd fight for him this year and all within 6 months! That’s good value to his fans. Unfortunately and with respect he is still the WBA interim champion as he didn’t win the title in the ring. I am hoping once Daniel Geale gets his IBF mandatory out of the way he will be pursuing a bout with GGG. I know he was very disappointed about being stripped 2 months after winning the legit title. A hard choice for Geale face Golovkin and get stripped of the IBF title or face Soliman and get stripped of the WBA title. Geale did the smart thing gaining an exemption for his IBF mandatory to be delayed so he could earn $2 million plus to defend against Mundine. Hopefully by the time they fight it will be a big money fight for both GGG & Geale.

Looking forward to this one. I don’t envy Macklin though…he is going to get hit very hard indeed.

Gonzo the Dragonborn – Gonzo, Einstein, Da Vinci, Tesla, Newton, Aristotle, Shakespeare

Line them all up for King Daddy Golovkin The Kazakh Sex Machine with his fists of thunder and a 10” golden dong swinging between his thighs and he’ll bowl ‘em over like hollow plastic skittles.

Good fight. GGG won’t have no problem finding Macklin and Macklin will have no problem finding GGG. This will be a test of who’s chin is better

FIREWORKS! I think GGG will take this, but Macklin is a tough guy and should put him to the test.

Textbook Hayelord

Macklin is definitely getting knocked out under 6 rounds.

Personally i think Martin Murray has more chance of stopping Sergio Martinez than Macklin making it the distance with GGG.

YES!! Finally a legit 160lb for GGG. I’ve been waiting for a step up in calss
