EAT THIS ONE HATERS- Fact is that Fury BEAT the blown up Cruiser…Something Arreola and Grant could NOT do Vs Adamek (who really lost to Cunningham), Seth Mitchell could NOT do Vs Jonathan Banks, Valuev, Ruiz, Barrett, Chisora and Harrison could NOT do Vs Haye, Ruiz could NOT do Vs RJJ and Toney, MANY fighters could NOT do Vs Holyfield and Moorer (Including Bowe on one occasion, Foreman, Mercer, Bean, Buster Douglas, Mike Tyson etc etc), and Holmes and Cooney could NOT do Vs Spinks…So blown up Cruisers and Light Heavies have a habit of derailing Heavies, Fury did NOT get derailed by one, and he is both younger and less experienced than all of those I mentioned that did. In addition Ali was almost sparked by the 35 year old 185lb Henry Cooper, by todays standards not much more than a Light Heavy!

Granted Fury behaved like a bellend during his time in the US and was too disrespectful, but Nazeem Richardson has absolutely no right to lecture anyone about fighting dirty or using illegal tactics. His charge Hopkins is the dirtiest fighter in the game and he should keep his mouth switched to off. And Cunningham needs to shut up about Fury’s size advantage too. He must’ve mentioned it at least 300 times during the post-fight press conference. And as for the ghetto trash who tried to intimidate Fury and his team, both during one of the pre-fight press conferences and during the post-fight one last night.. Why don’t you come over to the UK or Ireland and try and act tough where you’re vastly outnumbered by a load of irate travellers who love nothing better than a good scrap? We all know they wouldn’t dare do that in a million years though. Fcking pathetic they felt the need to try and make it into something physical because they couldn’t handle the fact their boy got beat.

All the fools on here saying Fury won due to his size,or use of elbows, illegal blows, whatever are talking out of their arse. What won Fury this fight is his natural fighting ability and that murderous body shot he landed in the 7th.That would have stopped most heavies in their tracks. While Fury looks clumsy due to crap balance,he does have an unusually good variety of shots for a heavyweight. he needs to find a world class trainer who understands the balance issues large heavies can suffer from.Hughie Fury looks super sharp and i think he’s the real future of the division. He doesn’t fight like a heavyweight,he reminded me of abigger version of Hearns,he’s rangy, accurate and fast with good power, and only 18.The kid will be a star.

Last night showed us exactly why David Haye fought Wlad the way he did. Fury leaned and clinched just like Wlad, although that’s where the comparison ends. It wasn’t pretty and ultimately ineffective but unlike USS he didn’t end up sparked out either.

Fury looked terrible! He fought sloppy and dirty. He practiced for Cain Valazquez with the front guillotine style headlock he put on Steve. He missed badly and leaned and held the whole fight. Kubrat and Klit KO this guy with ease.

What’s your point? You don’t like Fury.

Fury got tagged because he was showboating and lost focus. That probably wouldn’t have happened if his regular corner man was there. Moreover, he wasn’t sharp when throwing right hands, but he’s still a project in the making. Fury could sharpen his skills by fighting more frequently. He should also obtain top level training under Freddie Roach in an intensive boxing clinic.

Tyson Fury got knocked down and recovered completely.
Don’t underestimate Tyson Fury. He is young and foolish…but very talented.

soldtnt123: If a tiger is born in a stable, does that make it a horse??? Fury could’ve been born in Japan or even on the moon, but is still Irish Catholic by ethnicity. Why can’t you Brits comprehend this most simple of facts? After yesterday, I have a feeling that Fury wants to become the hated villainous nutcase of the HW division. And history proves there are distinct advantages to playing that role, so maybe he’s smarter than we think.

I just want to say that Tyson Fury jumping up and down like a girl, like a cheerleader — was pretty childish. He almost got knocked out by a guy 50 pounds lighter. This was not an impressive performance. He has nothing to cheer about.

soldtnt123, I suggest that YOU watch the Price-Thompson fight. David Price COULD KO Tyson Fury, but I’m betting that Fury hits Price with something (and it doesn’t take much) to KO David before Price lands something significant enough to stop Fury. Plus David Price is BORING. The only thing exciting about David Price is knowing he’s a KO artist who stands an equal chance of being kayoed himself.

K2-FAN; Nah, Wach is a slow, clubbing hitter, bit like Matt Skelton. Those guys rarely put anyone down with a single shot. Steve Cunningham threw a fast, whipping shot with his weight behind it. Wlad does not have a granite chin, and a fast, on point shot like that wouldve put Wlad down.

Posted April 21, 2013 9:08 am

K-2- Fan

It is pointless to argue with someone who is addle brained enough to claim
that Cunningham’s punch ( in the Fury fight ) would keep Wlad on the canvass . Obviously , this type of speculating is prompted by an irrational ,
dislike , or envious hatred for Wlad , an obvious lack of boxing knowledge and
just plain stupidity . Only in his last fight , Wlad was hit straight on by a guy 8 in. taller and 50 lbs. , or so , heavier than Cunningham , and not only did not even go down , but administered a beating on the guy ( Wach ) , that would put the likes of Fury in traction ! . Say what you will about Wach , but he is one big , strong , durable son of a bich ! So when I see silly , pointless speculations such as these ; it’s obvious that it’s jealousie and blind envy talking , rather than a legitimate boxing opinion . We may all have our likes and dislikes of different fighters , but if you want to be taken seriously , and want to have your opinion regarded more than just silly , inane babbling ,
stick to facts , avoid silly speculation and don’t let hate color your opinion !

“Fury proved he had Stamina, he proved he had Power, he proved he had a Chin, he proved he could Adapt. He didnt prove he had Mental Discipline though. . .

Anon–he actually proved that he does have mental discipline–most heavy’s woulda gave up after the second round knockdown–he went down very hard. Instead he followed a game plan, using crowding and leaning to wear out Cunningham to win the fight. It takes Mental discipline to fight through adversity. Most fighters would simple keep replaying through their head “This isn’t supposed to be happening . . .”

I keep forgetting he is only 24 (which explains all the shenanigans) which is very young in this day and age. Hughie is only 18 which is more shocking considering his amateur pedigree and early profesional start!

Posted April 21, 2013 7:02 am

Dan Adams

Tyson Fury does not have a glass jaw. He’s been dropped twice from wild right hands that he pretty much walked straight into, and when he got up from them Fury’s leggs looked solid and he went right back to work. Fury’s issue is he sometimes gets caught up in a brawl and leaves himself open, when as others have said here, he should be boxing more from the outside and use his height an reach and good movement for a big man to maintain the distance he needs to properly work the jab and right hand. Fury’s greatest asset apart from sheer size is his fighting heart…and it is Tyson’s willingness to brawl and eschew a game plan that got him in to trouble yesterday, and will again unless he has learned a valuable lesson courtesy of Steve Cunningham’s right hand. Good, entertaining fight…hats off to both men, though I really wish Fury would promote himself as the affable, clever giant rather than the boring bully boy… Steve Cunningham is a class act and didn’t deserve any of Tyson’s insults.

Assyrian, yeah but Pulev has skills! his defense is WAY better than what fury has.

Posted April 21, 2013 6:49 am

fury pushes punches, he does not throw them. he’s not an explosive puncher like Vladimir KlichKO, Haye or Tyson. he lacks explosiveness, strength and athleticism of a genuine puncher. That’s my opinion.

Posted April 21, 2013 6:42 am

AssyrianGod2

Agreed he talks too much smack and should drop the crap and get on with the job. If he keeps his concentration like he did with Johnson he is hard to beat with his size and reach, sure, if he hangs his chin out and just brawls he is playing russian roulette and could end up getting iced. Disagree he is feather fisted though, his KO ratio is no worse than Pulev!

Posted April 21, 2013 6:30 am

harry

Assyrian, compare late Sanders or Brewsters power to Cunninghams and feel the difference. The point is. Anyone can be knocked out. I remember Lewis been lying unconscious by Rahman and McCall. I’m talking about the skills of fury. he is nothing special, but he talks too much sht, this fool. put this featherfisted punk in the same ring with a skilled puncher and he is done.

Posted April 21, 2013 6:23 am

pound4pound

After the knockdown, Fury looked a worried man. He showed real grit to fight his way back into the bout but in my opinion was the only positive to take from last nights fight. TF’s footwork and boxing skills are exceptionally poor & any ref worth his fee will have had a good long look at Tyson’s bag of dirty tricks. The fight was awful & most of Fury’s good work came after illegal tactics.

Posted April 21, 2013 6:10 am

@This guy; The point I was making was a counter to those saying Fury has a glass jaw, which he does not have, clearly. Those saying he lacks discipline, concentration and ring smarts in some of his fights are of course correct, because he clearly does lack those things. Not against Johnson, Rogan, Nascimento and Maddalone, or Chisora too much, but yes against Cunningham, McDermott and Pajkic.

IF FURY PUNK HAS BALLS HIS NEXT OPPONENT WILL BE KUBRAT PULEV FOR NUMBER ONE IBF SPOT AND MANDATORY CONTENDER STATUS. I’M SURE FURY IS A PUS SY HE’LL FIND AN EASY LIGHT HITTING OPPONENT, PROBABLY A SMALL ONE. If you r a man fury punk, face PULEV NEXT.

Posted April 21, 2013 6:08 am

AssyrianGod2

lol, no Harry, I didnt lose. Wlad when caught has been all over the place, Wilder was dropped by serial loser Sconiers, Price went down from a light shot by Thompson. Fury was caught cold but not really hurt badly. Fury isnt ready for Wlad, Vitali or Haye just yet, he is only 24, but he would easily beat Wilder who thus far is the new Farouk Saleem, and i’d take him over Arreola who is slow and crude, much slower and cruder than Cunningham. PS; When you are over 200lbs, you dont have to hit like Corrie Sanders if you catch an opponent full on, with everything behind it, when he is not ready/aware. That shot showed Fury’s lack of concentration, not a lack of durability. The guy can take a shot for sure. He CAN also box intelligently, as he showed against Johnson. Fury’s problem is self control and concentration in the ring on some occasions, not his skills, movement, chin, power or stamina.

Posted April 21, 2013 5:56 am

Assyrian God, pointless speculating how Wlad wouldn’t have been able to get up from the same shot Cunningham landed on Fury. First of all, Did Wlad not rise 4 times against Sanders bombs, bombs far more devastating than what Steve landed on Fury? Secondly, and most importantly, Steve would NEVER be able to land such a blow on Wlad in the first place. Wlad is too good a boxer to allow that. So pointless speculation. That’s like saying a hyena would beat a full grown grizzly bear IF the hyena managed to bite hold of the bears neck. You honestly think a full grown grizzly would find itself in that situation against a hyena in the first place?

Posted April 21, 2013 5:32 am

AssyrianGod2

Steve Cunningham would most likely BEAT a fair few well known heavies active today. In addition, it was a full blooded great shot he caught Fury with, many Heavies would not have got up from that; I’ll bet Wilder, Mitchell, Wlad and Price would not have!

Posted April 21, 2013 5:04 am

AssyrianGod2

Fury will do BETTER against big heavies, thats pretty obvious to anyone with a brain. He wont have to punch downwards, and is far more mobile and fast than most 6ft6 plus heavies. People may well be surprised at how well he does against either K Bro once he has a little more experience. As for people mentioning Wilder in the same breath, sorry but they are IDIOTS! Wilder in his 28th fight is only just getting to the level of fighting the likes of Audley Harrison, a man whose last significant fight was a one minuite ko loss to Price, and who Fury victim Martin Rogan was beating in something like his 10th fight.

I’m amazed that people have missed the point, Steve Cunningham up to this point in his career has never been knocked out,and is a supreme warrior.tyson has done what he has to and total respect to both fighters for putting on a show that the boxing game seriously needs.tyson really needs a top trainer in his corner as well as his uncle for the simple reason that with out it,he will be easy meat for the klitchkos. Lennox Lewis proved and corrie sanders is you take them out of there comfort zone by being the total aggresor, constant pressure backed up by the most serious cardio training that enables you to fight for twenty four rounds, Derek chisora and I do like him, gave vitali the biggest shock he has had in the last ten years, why simple, vitali is getting old but, mr chisora put constant pressure on his opponent big time and has no fear ,and put his chin consistently into the danger zone. Result a points loss.its not as simple as my explanation but it will need a good team, and a boxer who can totally ignore there mind games, and can afford to pay there own way in Germany to avoid the distractions that may be put in there way.

Question : recently some guy ( a “writer ” on ESB ) was asking if Fury will be a world champion . After todays’s ” fight ” , it’s safe to say ; if it means
fighting a Klitchko . the answer is NEVER ! Let’s just ask ourselves this :
When did ANYBODY , weighing 44lbs . LESS and FIVE inches SHORTER , knock
down a Klitchko ? The answer is : NEVER ! Actually , in Vitaly’s case , it’s
NO matter how big , or how heavy . NEVER ! If a short , 210 lbs. guy can put this loudmouth pretender down , can you imagine what Wlad OR Vitaly
would do to him ?! They probably will avoid him , since they don’t want to be charged with MANSLAUGHTER . Good luck to Fury in the future , but my
advice to him is ; never , NEVER , EVER ; step into the ring with EITHER Klitchko !

Why brittards compare Fury to Wlad? Wlad is and always was a super athlete , wlad is a big puncher with a leathal jab , high ring IQ and good footwork and balance, while Fury is a very poor man’s Valuev. Wlad was a world champion when he was 24 !

Team Fury better match him really really carefully from now on…don’t know how much more careful then Steve Cunningham they can be….But getting dropped, and hurt several times by a ex cruzer that’s not a big puncher at HW…doesn’t bode well for the big dude. He says he wants the big fight..Bring on Haye, Boystov, Povokitan, Arreolla….the first three would wreck him!! I’d bet money on Arreola to out work him too! Better stay way away from either Klitschko Tyson….Their jabs would be like Cuninghams right hands!!

Without looking at the inevitable Haterade in this thread, it’s a well earned win for Fury. He didn’t box smart early but he did impose his size and strength on Cunningham from round 5 on. HE also answered any doubts about his heart. Both guys were all guts in there. Also, it was good for boxing. That was a very entertaining heavyweight rumble televised to a huge audience on NBC.

Fury WON due to SIZE. When a man has at least a 20 lb weight advantage then SIZE can overcome SKILLS. IF Fury was 25 lbs SMALLER he would have LOST.

Tyson Fury is just a punchbag. Too easy to hit and very clumsy at times. Does throw some combos and some stamina though.

Fury is exactly why I pay little attention to th heavyweight decision these days. He’s a lumbering giant with subpar skills, yet he’s still able to beat most heavies. But at least his over the top arrogance will get others to tune in, for the chance of seeing him get knocked down a couple of levels, which is bound to happen sooner or later.

Posted April 20, 2013 7:48 pm

we all saw how cunningham was a match for adamek and we all saw what transpired with vitali and adamek. now lets see if fury can deal with vladamir. if fury can get up after a klitschko shot he will be the new heavyweight champion !

Fury proved he had Stamina, he proved he had Power, he proved he had a Chin, he proved he could Adapt. He didnt prove he had Mental Discipline though. Lets face it USS Cunningham would likely beat almost all Heavies in the USA today, and a good few of the East Europeans too! So a very good win by Fury, a 24 year old in his first on the road fight, against a very good fighter who got robbed Vs the top 5 rated Adamek. Not the finished article, but I think he wanted to excite today instead of just using his jab and rach to UD Cunningham, which he couldve done like against Johnson.

Posted April 20, 2013 7:34 pm

It was the big body shot BEFORE the right hook that put Cunningham away, it was the body shot that did the damage, those shots can be worse to recover from than shots to the head.

Fury wasn’t the better boxer tonight but he was the stronger guy by a mile. Cunningham was winning the fight but you could tell his legs weren’t going to last. Fury kept leaning on him and landing some good shots and eventually wore Cunningham down. Good win for Fury who is improving. Like to see him vs Tony Thompson.

That fight was entertainment all the way through, Fury got hit way to clean though imo.

You gotta feel bad for Cunningham.

The Klitschko’s have nothin to fear from Fury that’s for sure.

Whether you like Fury or not, he put on an exciting performance. Chances are, we’ll soon see a Fury fight again on American TV. Hats off also to USS for taking on a giant. There was an early knock down and a final KO. This is the type of bout that should be televised to U.S. fans. A good afternoon was had by all.

i think this was more a case of Cunningham wilting than Fury demolishing Cunningham. it’s a win just the same though and i eagerly await Fury’s future.

Posted April 20, 2013 7:03 pm

Fury drops both hands, swings wide, and frequently on a single spindly giraffe leg. Cunningham was connecting with chopping-rights all fight long. Fury is severely overestimating his own chin and will be repeatedly decked by every quality heavy he faces from now on. this doesn’t preclude that he won’t be able to take a beating. in fact, that’s precisely what i see in Fury’s future.

Posted April 20, 2013 7:01 pm

Wladimir Klitschko was getting knocked out early in his career, gassing as well, couldn’t take a punch and he is meant to be a super athlete.

Posted April 20, 2013 6:56 pm

Listen everyone–Furry coulda folded up and quit–either after he got knocked on his ass, or when it started to look like Cunningham/Adamek 3. Instead he adjusted he game plan and wore down USS. In other words he found a way to win and he did win.

Posted April 20, 2013 6:56 pm

@Shane…And Arreola has athleticism, speed and skill? The Arreola that was easily outboxed by a mid 30′s Lightheavy in Adamek? The same Adamek who then got a gift discision against Cunningham, who in turn got KO’d by Fury.

Posted April 20, 2013 6:54 pm

Neil, Fury, is just trying to promote himself and win over the American public, as a character……..no doubt his antics did that tonight, to those that watched the fight in the US.

Posted April 20, 2013 6:54 pm

Neil (Pomy)

He needs a calming influence in a good trainer, he needs to dump his idiot hangers-on, grow up and start being more professional.

Posted April 20, 2013 6:52 pm

Shane

A 36 year old cruiser was outclassing and even dropped the new “Valuev ” before tiring. USS always had stamina issues. I didn’t know Fury was this bad even though he was skilled enough to uppercut himself on the chin. Arreola koes him easily. Then with his big mouth……..this guy is going to be a good punchline when he faces a real opponent. All you hear is how bad US heavys are while touting this garbage with zero athleticism and skills. Just bigger…..that’s all he had.

Posted April 20, 2013 6:51 pm

Neil (Pomy)

Fury’s career will be entertaining … but needs to stop being an idiot. Like I said, his recovery powers are impressive but if he keeps fighting like that he’ll get knocked out. Cant believe he started singing at the end …. he is not right in the head.

Posted April 20, 2013 6:50 pm

Not impressed! Fury is way too big for steve in the first place. He should be fighting guys like Price, Thompson, Wilder, Kulev! Guys more his size and stregnth. Bet one of them then ill give him his props! Seeking out a lil dude and pounding him to submission is no way to gain respect! WK is a real champ! He fights them all big and small. He doent just seek out lil dudes!

Posted April 20, 2013 6:49 pm

AssyrianGod2

I think that even with his lack of self discipline and young age Fury would probably beat any heavyweight out there right now with the exception of Wlad, Haye and probably (but not certainly) Vitali. I’d take Fury over Pulev, Adamek, Povetkin, Thompson, Dimitrenko, Arreola, Price and Helenius right now, and Wilder truly should not be mentioned in comparison to any top 20 Heavyweight, not until he at least beats a few fighters in the top 100, top 50 and top 30!!!

Posted April 20, 2013 6:49 pm

Box Clever it was on so early so that it would be screened at a time when most UK boxing fans could see it, it’s clear that it was a Fury promotion, and I guess CH5 & Fury’s team stumped up more cash than the American networks for this fight.

Tomasz Adamek has pretty much beaten everyone at Heavy easily apart from Vitali, but USS was robbed against Adamek, but Fury KO’d USS. So Fury proved he is a legit top 5 contender here, and it was his first fight away from home and he’s only still very young for a heavy. He showed he has a chin, punch power, a fighting spirit, stamina; and these are all things people trashed him for not having, they were WRONG. What he doesnt have yet is self control and mental discipline in the ring, they are his only real faults.

Posted April 20, 2013 6:41 pm

Neil (Pomy)

Fury’s behaviour tonight was embarassing …. had he of beaten he would of deserved it. He seriously needs to grow up and start showing some class. Trash talk is just trash talk but you have to be profesional in the ring. The best fighters are all business, no bulls++t. Look at Lennox Lewis, even when he hated the opponent like Rahman, he still came into the ring calm and full of concentration. Fury is exciting but he needs to grow up big-time. He seems to be surround by a few idiots as well. Wladimir would of outboxed his ears off tonight.

Posted April 20, 2013 6:39 pm

Cunningham is now a HEAVY weighing around 220LBS and he caught Fury FULL POWER with everything behind it, pretty much ANY heavy would have gone down from that, Wlad and Arreola certainly would, and MANY wouldnt have gotten up, Fury did, and he wasnt badly hurt. The knockdown says more about Fury’s wild style and lack of concentration but not his chin. The guy has a good chin no doubt! Thompson is SLOW, he just wouldnt connect with Fury if he concentrates.

Posted April 20, 2013 6:27 pm

AssyrianGod2

Fury did well for a 24 year old against a guy who was robbed against the Arreola beating Adamek last fight. Cunningham is actually much faster, more mobile, sharper and more skilled than the lumbering, one dimensional Arreola. Its unlikely that Arreola would catch Fury with the shots Cunningham did, especially if Fury boxed long like he did against Kingpin Johnson. And of course Fury just KO’d a guy who pretty much beat Adamek, who in turn EASILY beat Arreola. As for Wilder, he has fought nought but galvanised corpses. Cunningham would probably whip Wilder, iafter all Wilder is STILL fighting the type of opponents novice HUGHIE Fury is fighting! lol

Posted April 20, 2013 6:26 pm

Fury could have used the Johnson fight blueprint, and used his height and reach to post a what some would call boring UD, then of course he would get trashed for being boring. Instead he fought in an aggressive, risky manner, and won an exciting fight…against a guy who ”beat” Adamek last time out…same Adamek who easily beat Arreola…and gets trashed for getting floored! Lol, the hypocrisy of some is astounding!!!…….RE the flooring; Fury got caught full on by a 215lb fighter and got up fine, that does NOT = a glass chin, on the contrary it shows he has a GOOD CHIN. Same with his power, he showed very clearly that he has good power.

Good win for Tyson, Cunningham has never been stopped before. What is all the hype about Pulev, who has he beaten, don’t say Unsitnov, because he is as unskilled a big man as there is. Pulev was 0-3 against Camarelle as an amateur, so I doubt he’s all that much..

Result? Fury KO in 7. I guess we will hear gloating from the Fury ATG camp and excuses from the USS supporters, or maybe diversion. The facts are, cunninghm was doing very well but the fight was longer than 6 rounds and that, even allowing for Fury looking sloppy, the cumulation took its toll and Fury gort a decent W in the right column. A Kbrother? OH HELL NO. He’s nowhere NEAR ready! Another step in the right direction for a young fighter with time on his side.

Posted April 20, 2013 6:10 pm

I’m almost embarrassed to be British after watching that. Fury fought like it was a pub car park, not a boxing ring. I have huge respect for Cunningham, who is a true boxer. Fury, on the other hand, won not by boxing, but by using his massive weight advantage to lean on his opponent and wear him out, pushing him, holding and hitting, using his head and elbows: every dirty trick in the book. In fact, he fought like a rank amateur, or small town club boxer, albeit a huge one. In any case, the idea that Fury will EVER be good enough to be a serious challenge to the Klitschkos is farcical, and even casual fans of boxing ought to recognise that.

Posted April 20, 2013 6:06 pm

“move west young man”. that’s where American Boxing is located nowadays and at least one heavyweight who i can guarantee would KTFO of Fury: Cristobal Arreola. he would land the same punches that Cunningham did but more often and with more power and he’s a legit heavyweight. either Klitschko is out of the question for Fury. he shouldn’t even unless he’s simply positioning for a Haye-Payday with no intention of reigning at heavyweight.

Hmm is it even legal to push your opponents head back to land a punch ?.
entertaining fight but Fury lags good defense and a decent chin. There are a good reason why he hasnt stepped it up yet. Sure there is room for improvement, but not enough to ever become a top 10 fighter.

Maybe he has the false confidence to take on Price now. He’ll keep running from that one until he can cash in a KO loss against Wlad. Not impressed about Fury, he keeps dodging the big guys but sooner or later he will need to fight them. Then I’ll give him credit if he can win those.
