Juanma has no choice but to accept the Mikey Garcia fight lol he has no control after getting destroyed twice by Solido. Real boxing fans know Mares fights anyone an is not scared to take the challenge. Rigo needs to step up to 126 Mares resume is 100 times better then Rigos. I’m not surewho would win but would love to see it. There’s no doubt Rigo is damn good some of us can admit talent in boxing an not let race dictate our opinions. race

Rigo would mop the floor with Mares.. It’s obvious from Mares pretty poor performance vs a shot Ponce Deleon that he is prime for the taking and Rigo saw an EZ kill in Mares and the reason he immediately called him out.. Now lets see if Mares has some balls to accept the Challenge like JuanMa just did vs Mickey Garcia…

no where in this press release did i read of Rigondeaux’s willingness to step Up to 126lbs(?). that’s the title that Mares is defending now. Rigo needs to actually step-Up if he truly wants Mares and (win or lose) Mikey Garcia soon thereafter.

Rigondeaux targets Mares
By Gabriel F. Cordero

Guillermo ‘El Chacal’ Rigondeaux is looking forward to defending his WBA and WBO 122lb world titles in September. Rigondeaux is hoping that his promoters Top Rank and Caribe Promotions can make a fight with Golden Boy’s WBC featherweight champion Abner Mares. Golden Boy, according to the Nevada Athletic Commission, paid Mares $350,000 for his victory over Ponce de Leon on the undercard of Mayweather/Guerrero. “It was an easy night’s work beating the 2012 fighter of the year Nonito Donaire on April 13th but beating Mares will be even easier,” said Rigondeaux. “I have already beaten Mares in the Pan American Games by a wide points margin of 17-7 but with the headgear off and these small gloves I will knock him out. However, if he wants to step up to the big time he should take this challenge. I’m sure my promoters can make it financially worthwhile for him and for Golden Boy. Of course, if he simply wants to be an undercard fighter and not rise to this challenge, that is his right but all will know then that he is afraid to fight me.”

No it let’s you know what the facts are, Mares dominated an KO Ponce something Broner could not do. It’s not even comparable the talent Mares has fought an won against, Broner has fought cupcakes so far Mares fights an beats the best.

Posted May 6, 2013 11:56 pm

CORRECTAMUNDO

Well THAT lets you KNOW that Broner improves at the speed of LIGHTNING. Because Broner would SPANK Mares AND Ponce De Leon Right NOW. Thats called transforming from tadpole to SHARK.

Mares dominated an knocked out Ponce, Broner a much biggerguy couldn’t do that, if fact most ppl think Ponce beat Broner.

How about Leo Santa Cruz?? That guy’s one of if not the most exciting fighter in the lower weight classes!

Mares has fought them ALL, without hesitation or promotional excuses. Ponce was a tough and formidable nut but Team Mares engineered and Mares executed a Mayweatheresque fight-plan that featured boxing and sudden-explosive fists at a higher weight, no less. the stoppage was premature and Ponce was building-up a head of steam but Mares expertly derailed De Leon with a sudden combo that was exactly what the fight doctor ordered. i figured Ponce would give Mares a lesson in powerpunching. instead, Mares delivered an excellent boxing-punching performance for a TKO win. how many of you were favoring Moreno to give Mares a boxing lesson? instead Mares turned it into a clinic on unrelenting pressure and powerpunching. all-Raza showdown at feather between Mares and Garcia is now shaping-up. Donaire and Rigondeaux don’t figure to step up any time soon and Salido, Gonzalez, and Ponce are now out of the running. however the list of B-side players will make for some exciting undercards, e.g., Ponce v. Salido, Gonzalez v. Fortuna and you could have Castellanos v. Lopez and Cotto v. Ishe Smith as prelims. Canelo v. Lara headlining. that’s a fight-night worthy of the September 16 ring-warrior’s holiday.

Broners a supermiddle near enough, Has’nt this mares got belts at a few weights now? think he’s a bit more than a prospect lol

Posted May 6, 2013 12:06 pm

Public Enemy

He will make for some interesting exciting fights no doubt.. I would’ve liked to see him vs JuanMa who has lost a step or two.. but Rigo and Nonito would be really tough for him.. Broner? Forget about it.. not the Broner we see today.. way to fast, too big and too strong..

Posted May 6, 2013 11:10 am

Public Enemy

lefhook – he has potential and has done well so far but he’s now stepping into the deep side of the pool with some seriously large Sharks to get past like Broner, Rigo, Nonito, Garcia and JuanMa. But who knows maybe he’s the one to make it to the top.. we shall see…

Posted May 6, 2013 11:08 am

lefhook

I thought he boxed really well, not easy fighting a friend either. I think he could have upped it anytime he wanted. Everytime he put the foot on the gas he had Deleon in real trouble

lefhook

PE..Maybe, but he’s high quality that kid

Posted May 6, 2013 10:58 am

Public Enemy

lefhook – I’m not fkn around and trying be harsh on Mares but based on that performance I believe he would have a very tough time vs Cucan Rigo, Nonito, Mickey Garcia and JuanMa..

lefhook

PE.. Come on man, now I know your at it. lol Mares looks the business n u know it

Posted May 6, 2013 10:06 am

Best move for Nonito is to go after Mares before someone else knockeshimdafkoutCold. Mares is ready to be taken out based on this poor performance over this old worn Deleon..

JuanMa knocked out unbeaten Ponce Deleon in 1 Round.. Ponce Deleon was beating up on Abner Low Blow Mares until the Crooked Ref took the fight from Deleon and gave it to hyped up Mares…

Rosado now joins Dulorme, JuanMono, and Cotto among the growing ranks of PRicaN’T placeholders and gatekeepers piggy-backing off of the fame of “Mexican” fighters and even beginning to emulate their preparation by traveling to Mexico and targeting their toughest cabbies. ultimately, that’s what the “rivarly” has always been about. riding Mexican coattails and citing wins over Mexican fighters and cabbies as their primary claim to fame. in fact, if it wasn’t for Mexico, nobody would know or care about PR boxing . . . or what’s left of it . . . “Peace!”

Posted May 5, 2013 2:50 pm

Santa Cruz yet another undefeated west-coast fighter on the rise. along with Mares, Canelo, and Mikey Garcia. conversely, nothing but steady and persistent decline among the depleted ranks of PRicaN’T fighters. delusional to think that 1,000 PRs could ever prevail v. 1 trillion “Mexicans” . . . (lol) . . . “Cannn-tahhh y no Llores” . . .

premature stoppage and all, Mares was gradually establishing his dominance with swift power and superior timing. he was also shrugging-off Ponce’s powerpunches with remarkeable ease. not likely that Rigondeaux will immediately venture north of bantam; Donaire’s on family leave; and Lopez will soon be eRased from boxing ranks (never mind contention) by Mikey Garcia. at which point, Ponce may finally get his chance to mop-up whatever’s left of JuanMono for good.

Abner should replace donaire on everyones p4p list

boxing so sweet

Is it me or does Mares and Orlando Del Valle look like they could be brothers?

Posted May 5, 2013 1:18 pm

PEEJ

Question though. If Cruz fought Mares, who wins? Cruz said he wanted to fight Mares but Mares just looks to big for him at the moment

Posted May 5, 2013 1:05 pm

PEEJ

Mares was winning that fight. He did seem to be getting tired but he in my opinion wasn’t about to lose and he may had very well knocked Ponce out if he didn’t step in. But I’m with you it was a very bad stoppage. I hate Nady myself

Posted May 5, 2013 1:04 pm

Public Enemy

Shameful how they took away Deleons belt.. Abner was begining to Wilt and it was just a matter of Time.. Jay Nady is the worst Ref in boxing history… No fkn Way Abner gets past Cuban Rigo, Gamboa, Broner or JuanMa…
