“Only Mayweather haters found the fight boring” Not really. All boxing fans are not alike. Some appreciate what occurred on Saturday night, some like knock-down drag out fights. I thought Floyd was masterful. But he fought safe. Still, that didn’t make it a boring fight. In my eyes. Just safe.

JMM got away with it, and we’ll never know for sure because the NSAC tells everyone what they test for, and then you have a chemist and well known Ped supplier that is Angel Hereida that immediately works on putting together a new masking mix. Horrible! I watched JMM train live many times, and I saw him workout live before the Manny fight, and he was on something. I saw him three days later in person, and he was not the same physical person. IMO, he got away with it. Let’s see how he does now. He sure wants no part of the same guy he hit with the Ped Punch, and he was offered plenty of money. He knows better than to wake up a fierce lion that i Manny Pacquiao. Wait and see what happens to Brandon Rios. At least Rios has the courage to fight. JMM didn’t want to fight Rios either. Wonder why? Boxing will be revived once Manny is back. He’ll begin his reign of terror for the second time, and he may even win a 9th title. Manny will change boxing.

“now you just grasping at straws to feed your redneck hate” Happyboy, please quote me when I bashed Mayweather for saying he would fight Alexander? If I did say that, was it when Alexander was a welterweight champion like he is now? As for fighting Bradley–yeah, Arum is an issue, but the truth is the fight could be made if Mayweather really wanted it. It could be done! Look, Arum got Mosley to leave the GBP umbrella temporarily to fight Pacquiao. Also, I’ve said numerous times in the past that Bradley and Mayweather should fight. So I don’t know what you’re going on about. But I’m not grasping at straws–Floyd just fought an “interim” champion when he could have fought at least two other bonafide welterweight beltholders. Action speak louder than words. Floyd fought a much inferior opponent in Guerrero. Period–as most of us knew long before the fight ever happened.

Posted May 7, 2013 10:34 am

Hidalgo

“Hidalgo, when are you gonna get it thru YOUR head that Floyd does NOT “need” any particular fighter??? ” That’s okay SRedmond, just ignore the fact that I pointed out that Mayweather fought a temporary champion rather than a bonafide belt holder–that’s what Malignaggi, Alexander, and Bradley are. But you’d rather jump on me for my use of words. BTW, please tell me when I ever said Floyd did not fight a great fight against Guerrero? Quote me please. Floyd fought a masterful fight but he fought a safe fight against an opponent who the overwhelming majority of fans and experts and just about anybody else, knew he would beat. Handily. You’re looking to pick me apart just to pick me apart. You’re looking to paint a picture of Floyd perfection but that ain’t happening in your lifetime. Floyd has five more fights to fight in order to fulfill his contract and make his $250M (or something like that). He fought safe. He chose a safe opponent. He also dominated that safe opponent, but like I said, he did exactly as he was expected to do. Now try to calm down. Respond to my arguments-not single words in them. But just for you I’ll rephrase: I’d like to see Floyd fight the true champions in the welterweight division. I would like to see Floyd unify the titles. I would like to see Floyd clean out the welterweight division. But tell me SRed, if Guerrero is so damn good and is truly a top 10 P4P boxer, why didn’t he own something other than a temporary wleterweight title before he got a fight with Mayweather?

Will I buy anymore of his fights, probably not as this was a carbon copy of most of his previous fights. I can’t blame FLoyd for wanting maintain his health and longevity. Good for him. But expecting people to pay good money to watch the same thing over & over again. Not again for me. I can’t understand why Floyd gets paid so much? Brilliant but boring.

Marquez wants no part of Guerrero. He may have lost against Floyd, but JMM isn’tgoing to hit and run like Floyd. Guerrero will hit him quite often. Guerrero’s biggest challenge is to make sure Hereida, Nacho and Marquez don’t know what they test for. JMM has that Ped Punch formula, but sooner or later he’ going to be busted. Marquez will never fight Guerrero.

Marquez is terrific but I seriously doubt he would stop Guerrero who has NEVER been stopped and ate bombs from Berto and Floyd while staying on his feet… Don’t let Marquez knocking out an on rushing Pacquaio make you think he’s suddenly got the heaviest hands at WW… Again weak attempts to make it seem like Guerrero has an Amir Khan like chin getting stopped in multiple weight divisions…I would lean towards JMM’s craft but at 40 a more physical fighter like Gurrero could be a problem, Marquez is amazing but as we saw he’s nobody’s Floyd Mayweather..

Hidalgo, when are you gonna get it thru YOUR head that Floyd does NOT “need” any particular fighter??? They “NEED” him… That’s why he pulls all the strings because he’s earned the right to run his own ship..He is coming off ANOTHER Virtuoso performance at the age of 36… He has again cemented his status as the BEST Fighter in the World… The names you spewed you would never give credit for anyway… So who are you trying to fool? But the bottomline is that Floyds not listening to edicts from crazed detractors who ONLY have 5 fights to see him potentially lose and are becoming dangerously desperate…

The following says it perfectly: “The subtle shifts in pace, the masterful use of angles, the on-the-spot adaptability-this is what boxing at its highest level is all about. To true boxing fans, a Mayweather master class is every bit as entertaining as a two-fisted brawl. Genius is only boring to the poorly-informed and the legitimately dim-witted.”

I remember when Muhammad Ali was HATED. I also remember when Martin Luther King was hated and after his Federal holiday was made LAW many of THESE United States FAILED to honor it. That being SAID Floyd Mayweather’s GREATNESS will not be recognized until MANY years after Floyd has retired from the RING!

Mayweather was SUPERB with his viper moves! Haters won’t appreciate his pure stealth-like precise artistic fluidity, even as he expressed his 36yr young aggression in an even MORE poised controlled manner! VINTAGE WINE for everyone!! This extremely HARD WORKING – take no SHORT-CUTS champion would DEFINITELY thrive in ANY era for OBVIOUS reasons!! And he’d still be HATED ON in ANY era! Why? Because there are people that will ALWAYS focus on what the GREATS do wrong! The thing is, they will see legitimate “flaws” in their performances, so they’ll comfort themselves in their HATING “intellect” they tend to prize. At the same time: they won’t & cant focus on BRILLIANCE that is OH SO EVIDENT!!, that is, theyve CONDITIONED themselves to HATE!!! SLUG FESTS shorten careers and productive lives! CHESS LIKE elusive movements that “capture” pawns, while working towards CHECKMATE will always seem boring to some, but not to the analytic that watches or performs. SLUG FESTS can CERTAINLY be mesmerizing and intriguing to watch, but what happens NEXT, is what takes the luster away from the meetings….. eventual dementia, neurological disorders. parkinsons, slurred speech, etc! some are gonna argue you can get these things without boxing, but its a FACT boxing can compound the issue and even create it! Anyway, looking forward to more VIRTUOSO performances from the Creme De La Creme of the sport!! “Boring is a matter of Opinion!”…”Winning is a matter of Fact!!!”….So true!

Noone thought that the ghost could hang with Mayweather, this was a great performance by a master. Mayweather is as quick and strong as ever, so there is one man he should meet. This is Bradley, who is also quick and hardhitting. But you just got to be impressed by a boxer, who takes on a good name, after a long break, and easily wins. Mayweather is one of the greats, there is no reason, for a Money vs Manny fight, now.

Bring on Mayweather vs Bradley. I’d like to see Mayweather vs Canelo too, but no way does Floyd fight him at 154… He’s going to demand Canelo comes down to 147 so he can fight a weight-drained version. Great win by Mayweather. Not super exciting, but fun to watch a master at work.

The crowd at the MGM had it right when they booed when the fight was over. This fight was a hard sale from the start, unless his next fight has a major undercard. less people will attend or buy PPV. Half the bar walked out by the 7th round during this fight. it was a PPV sparring session, Floyd got a good work out in. Next fight wont be much better cause he is gonna KO Amir Kahn like everyone has.

Rigondeaux was ripped for his boring performance over a guy that hasn’t lost in 12 years. Guerrero is a low-class, trash figher and Floyd ran all night. Floyd needs to fight Tim Bradley, Devon Alexander, and Paulie Malignaggi. These are the other champions holding major belts in the welterweight division right now. Instead, Mayweather fights Guerrero, a guy who owns an “interim” title. Do you know what “interim” means? It means “in the meantime.” Temporary. But now everybody’s on the bandwagon about Floyd’s incredible performance over him. Really? I fail to see the luster. Guerrero was hyped to appear to be much more than he really is. Mayweather proved that. So what. Clean out the wleterweight division Floyd. That’s what ATG’s do. You got four viable opponents in it (if you include interim champ Chaves–who is undefeated by the way). And hey, you can fight them all on Cinco de Mayo! Or the day before!

All the fighters we put on the P4P list (exception Ward) were defeated and handed their first losses by a LESS than “Great fighter” “Klitschko 3x by subpar and VERY subpar competition, Marquez, no one Great, Martinez, knocked out by Margo early on, Donaire a nobody early on and most recently a guy with 11 pro fights despite an unusually deep amateur background, Pacquaio by 2 nobodies early on… Floyd Mayweather has had 21 World Title fights if I am correct and by most accounts lives a high stress lifestyle yet he is ALWAYS up for the challenge, he has has broken hands, rib injuries CRAZY family issues, promotional warfare (Top Rank) legal trouble, LONG layoffs and NO ONE could catch him slipping and exploit it????? We have heard all the Greats Mosley, Oscar, Marquez, Donaire, Klitschko (poison, gassing, he punched me in the face) make excuses for losses but we have NEVER had to hear that from FMJ becauses he’s the Alpha Dog of boxing!! You ask ANY other fighter who the BEST fighter in the World is and pretty much to a man they are gonna say Floyd Mayweather Jr, I don’t care if he mows down a village with a Thompson sub machine gun he’s still the best fighter in boxing…Consensus P4P #1

Mayweather has already said he’d fight Canelo as long as Canelo agrees to Random blood testing, Weight Gain restrictions and fight at 147lbs… If Canelo wants to finally prove himself all he has to do is agree.. but he won’t because he knows he’d get KO’d so we’ll continue to watch Canelo fight tomato cans and shot fighters..

EY, you’ll also remember that Miguel Cotto was the chief sparring partner for Henry Bruseles who Mayweather faced in an eliminator to face Gatti. There are PLENTY of fighters LOSING and they can’t sell a PPV fight to save their lives….Mayweathers undefeated record is a BIG part of what sells fights his fans want to se excellence and continued domination, his detractors tune in to see if someone can get to him… Obviously one group has been HAPPY 100% of the time and one group has been SAD 100% of the time clearly you’re in the latter group making NO Logical sense…If losing is all it takes Pacquaio’s next PPV should do 3 million buys because he lost terribly…

The fact that Mayweather was so sharp is the exact same reason he has to fight the best out there. You cant reign a division and not fight the top guy (besides himself) in it for 6,7, maybe 8 years. Especially when outclassing the opposition like that. Its what kills boxing. If no one beats him in his remaining 5 fights, wich is the certain outcome with this level of opposition, PPV boxing might become a thing of the past.

Posted May 6, 2013 9:30 am

Exiled Yank

Sweet – Hatton flat out avoided FM at 140, he said it himself, which is why FM moved up to 147. SSM avoided him for years and only took the fight because he was losing everything in his divorce. I honestly believe Cotto would have fought FM years ago, even at 140, but Arum wouldn’t let that happen.

Posted May 6, 2013 9:27 am

Exiled Yank

Sweet – I’m glad to see that I’m not the only person who knows RG was FM’s mandatory. People were calling this a tune-up, too. Really? How is a mandatory a tune-up? That’s the same as saying Sharmba Mitchell and Ricky Hatton were KT’s tune-ups after he recovered from his injuries. Nope, one was the interim IBF champion (Mitchell) and the other his #1 IBF mandatory challenger (Hatton). Was RG the best fight out there for FM? No, he wasn’t. But if FM had relinquished his WBC title and fought someone else, then everyone would have said he was running from RG because he knew RG would beat him. People let FM’s superior skills skew their opinions of him. No one was berating RG as sub-par competition after he beat Berto. But after FM schools him for 10 rounds, suddenly he’s an undeserving fringe contender. Pathetic.

Mayweather was punch perfect on Saturday, a great performance. Gutted he never got in a ring with a prime Pacquiao though. Pacman had the style to give Floyd serious problems, making it a 50/50 fight. Mayweather is a smart guy though, he knows this, and that’s exactly why the fight never happened.

i really am neutral but yes sorry i find mayweather boring and thats why i will never call him great because despite all his talent his figths lack excitment and passion – i think that probably with regard to skills you could compare mayweather to sugar ray leonard hwver the difference betwee the 2 is that 1- leonard fought all best oppents during their prime and 2- his fights were almost always very entertaining – for me to be great you need talent + 1 and 2 as above
mayweather only has great telant but without 1 and 2 i personally will never call him great – now obvioulys that is my only opinion and i respect those who find him great based on his talent only
i really am not a hater but i just get bored in almost all mayweather fights- thats also a fact and i know we are quite many like this being not haters but just getting bored watching him -also please as good as guereero is he is by no means a great fighter and we were quite many to precict a very easy ud frm fm (or late stoppage) so eprsonally what suprises me is that some people are surprised that fm dominated easily ? – i never quite understood people whio thought that Guerrero could be a real threat whe they obviousky are 2 leagues apart

117-10 is 9rounds to 3. although that was probably generous. you could give the ghost rounds 1 and 12 to be kind but I don’t know when you find a third round from.

all was a farce. the media show up Robert guerrero like a great fighter. He s a “B” fighter. But there are a lot of dumbs out there. The richies made their money through them. Floyd will find always a excuse to avoid real hard hitting fighters.

This was no boring win. Floyd’s a beast in the ring. He proved he is still got everything that people said he has lost. Floyd will beat Canelo. Canelo does not have the stamina to deal with speed. Floyd fights a minute a round and Floyd fights 3

The Prince

The people who booed and left, where the ones who was hoping to see Mayweather lose, and realized by the mid-to-late rounds that it wasn’t going to happen. Those same people will spend money for Mayweather’s next fight hoping for the same thing, and that’s the joke on them.

pragmatics

It’s one thing to see some technical boxing, but when the two fighters are in different leagues, it ceases to be interesting and ends up as little more than a night of sparring. I voted with my wallet by not buying this ppv, or going to a pub to see it. Not one dime of income was generated from my wallet and I’m proud of that. Maybe when Mayweather finally faces a real challenge, but till then….pfffft! Nows the time for the injury excuses to put off fighting for another year…As if Mayweather is going to fight 2 times a year for the next 3 years….that’s a good one. I’ll believe it when I see it.

NO, fans voted with their wallet. They left because it was a one sided fight. The people who did all the talking didn’t show up. Even Mexicans left Ruben and Robert after the 3rd round.
