Hidalgo – I’m not asking you to condone anyone, everyone is innocent until proven guilty and Pac has passed every test his taken ( so did Armstrong) however my issue is the double standards you applied when the request came from Mayweather. You say you changed your opinion cause many have been caught cheating, but many had been caught cheating way before that. Furthermore there was the BALCO saga with Marion Jones, Barry Bonds even Mosley coming clean which proved beyond any reasonable doubt that sport was infested with PEDs. With all this information you chose to bury your heads in the sand and support Pac which just proved your ignorance and discrimination against Mayweather cause now all the points you are making to support your change of opinion were there before the demand by Floyd the only difference was the numbers of those caught which is still rising. BTW Pac has still not agreed to stricter tests.

BTW, if Floyd does fight Amir before Amir proves himself as a welterweight, Mayweather will deserve all the doubt he garners.

“So when you guys were backing Pacman for refusing the tests your stance seemed very odd indeed considering the history of PEDs in sport ” Well Happyboy, if you remember–you may not of course because it’s been a while–I was one of the ones who originally supported Pacquiao regarding the PEDs claims against him, but as time wore on, I just let it drop because one the one hand nothing was ever proved against him, but on the other hand Pac and Arum always had an excuse for not fighting Mayweather–and vice-a-versa of course. I mean, Pac has never even volunteered to just to random testing even if he wasn’t fight Mayweather. But don’t forget before he fought Mayweather, while they were in one of their periods of “negotiations” both of them were spontaneously required to submit to random testing (once I think) and both passed. Regardless, I don’t disagree that Manny has no legitimate answer or excuse for not undertaking random testing. After all, the worst it would do to him–if he is clean–is increase his credibility.

But as far as the “history of PEDs in sport”, well, just because it was there doesn’t mean Pacquiao did do PEDs. And just because Mayweather hasn’t tested positive for PEDs since he began subjecting himself to random testing, that doesn’t mean he’s never done PEDs in his career. After all, hes had access to the same PED tech as any other top athlete.

But I’m still not going to condemn Pacquiao for being ACCUSED of doing PEDs. I do wish he’d do the random testing for at least one fight, get a decisive win in that fight, then this PED issue with him would be put to rest a least for a bit and a little while.

“Rumor is that Mayweather’s PPV numbers were under 1 million putting Showtime in trouble.” – If true, then what most believe is confirmed. That Floyd’s numbers are only dependent on the Pac-May superfight. And vice versa. Pac always gives an action fight though, totally worth my $$$. Floyd though, is the one piggybacking on Pacquiao’s name because people only buy his fights thinking every fight is a tune-up for Pacquiao, (he’s the one who keeps mentioning Pac’s name to hype his fights).

Floyd’s statement “the fight doesn’t hold weight anymore” is stupid. Everyone still wants to see Pac-May, Floyd just does not want to fight for some reason other than FEAR. Not hatin on Floyd, just sayin.

Correct me if I’m wrong( I know you will) but weren’t Mosley, Salido, Vargas, Holyfield, RJJ busted before the Pac/May demand?

Hidalgo – Good. Well PEDs in sport generally have been ripe since back in the days of the East Germans with athletics in the 60s or 70s if I’m correct , then there was the Ben Johnson saga in the 80s and 90s. So when you guys were backing Pacman for refusing the tests your stance seemed very odd indeed considering the history of PEDs in sport especially with the more recent Armstrong and BALCO saga with Barry Bonds and Marion Jones and even close home when Shane coming out and admitting to usage of PEDs. All this information was sitting on your laps and you knew all this but you guys were willing to bury your heads in the sand and give a pass to another athlete than support the unpopular Mayweather. Just shows how transparent your discrimination is against Floyd thats all.

If Floyd-Guerrero outcome was so easy to predict, then a Floyd-Khan outcome should be like taking candy from a baby. Though Khan has better skills than Guerrero, I don’t see him lasting 12 rounds.

May be a good fight for Floyd to maintain his unbeaten record, but one must question his opponents…especially when there are bigger fish to fry.

This match-up is total garbage. Khan struggles at 140, so how’s he going to be competitive at 147? Especially against the bst fighter in the world. This will lead to a one sided, world class beating. Pathetic. FM will become a total joke if he takes this fight.

Hidalgo – there you go with your double standards again, so it’s fine, fair and darn right justified for Bradley to DEMAND random drug testing from Marquez but not so for Mayweather. JJM will go down as one of the great Mexican fighters and he always represents himself well.

Only thing that is gonna beat Floyd is Father time and Floyd will dodge that bullit too, he will know when it’s time to quit, then he is gonna be a force in the promotion and training side of boxing. just came on to find out about Pac vs Rios, if it was really on, Bradley is a more realistic opponent than Kahn….can’t really take a good punch…Bradley just had a tough fight but showed he can take it and dish it out too

Peej – FM did beat Marq with relative ease, but Marq has had more time to settle into the division and his decimation ofPac makes him a viable opponent. Much more than Khan. Bradley is an option too, so is Canelo, but this Khan crap is a farce.

It doesn’t matter anyhow, Khan will most likely lose anyhow. Outside of speed and pop, he has nothing to offer. Let’s be honest, Hamed was 10 times the fighter Khan is. At least Hamed knew how not to get hit… until Barrera got him.

“Fighters fight, runners run” and victims of the #1 KO in Boxing history crash face-first into the canvas and can’t be revived for several minutes. we know what Manny* Pacquiao* is, and we certainly know who Floyd Mayweather is: the #1 P4P boxer in the sport.

good to read that Marquez is sticking to his guns and dismissing the possibility of a redundant 5th matchup v. Pacquiao* and instead deciding to target Bradley instead. a win over Bradley will provide the exclamation point to Marque’s ATG ring-legacy. Pacquiao’s* legacy is Fk’d. he’ll now try and resurrect it v. Rios in a matchup in China. a matchup once again based on Roach’s calculated reasoning that if Pacquiao* was able to “beat up” Alvarado in sparring, he will have an easier time defeatiing Rios in an actual pro bout. kind of like comparing simple addition to advanced calculus but the Team Punkuiao* matchmaking formula remains the same: avoid risk and capitalize on vulnerability. i’m hoping against hope that it won’t take place at a catchweight but that would be a departure from the Team Pacquiao* cherrypicking formula. however, Rios might actually be stronger at a full 147lbs and i definitely expect mutual chin- and gut-checking to be featured in this matchup . . . “Let’s Get It On!”

Not at all Hidalgo. Peterson and Garcia both beat Khan but that’s not enough to earn another shot, they have to go through their mini-tournament. So why should Floyd just get to stroll into a fight with him? What – don’t tell me you think that Mayweather being (arguably) the best is merit enough? Special rules apply to fights with Khan. (For example, it isn’t unfinished business when you lose a close fight to him, only when you beat him – and only then if you’re not called Prescott). Floyd needs to get his head around this if he hopes Khan will grant him a fight, needs to appreciate he won’t be calling the shots. (Just imagine if he tries to negotiate with Khan they way he did with Manny!!)

What has Mayweather done to deserve a shot at Khan? I know he won quite convincingly at the weekend but we need a little more proof than that. I suggest Floyd needs to throw his hat into the ring with Peterson / Garcia / etc…. If he emerges victorious from that mini tourney, THEN maybe we can talk about fights with Khan. You have to earn these things, pay your dues and work your way up. Mayweather can’t expect to have it all just handed to him on a plate, can he?

Please no ! we all know why Floyd fights guys who move up from 130 to 140 to 147 none of them can beat him. The only way Floyd loses is at 154 to 160 and he’s not going there soon so he will continue to milk these easy fights and bamboozle the simple minded people into buying his PPV

Posted May 7, 2013 8:41 am

Dino; From Youngstown, Ohio.

Mayweather proved time and again that he trains like no other, his ring IQ can’t be matched. He would KO Khan but just to give the people there hard earned monies worth, he would box him for around 6 rounds then start beating him up and TKO or KO him. Everytime Khan steps up to the important stage, the make or break stage, he fails, his glass jaw will fail him everytime. You can’t fix a glass jaw.

I have a very hard time seeing this fight coming together economics aside, Khan cannot look good enough and his image will be hard to rehab absent a win against Peterson or someone else that is dominant… I can’t get cozy with Khan beating an inconsistent fighter like Alexander… A 36 year old FMJ trounces him, this would be a payday only if it came off which I would have to see to believe..

If Khan had the power to hurt Mayweather in the 2 rounds it take Mayweather to work him out this could be interesting.

But he doesn`t.

Khan might get 2-0 up on the scorecards through workrate and movement, but then he`d eat a counter left hook and get calmly walked down for aaa KO.

Junior, agreed with the defence problems. Khans chin is quite good I think, given some of the shots he has taken. His problem is he leaves himself open when he is throwing these combinations, no head movement and not enough pop on each punch to deter an opponent from throwing back. The guy has never had a decent defence, even going back to the days of Willy Limond and Drilzane before that.

Ghost, Pacquiao wasn’t on the radar UNTIL he started jumping up the weight classes and beating quality opposition. You could say that started with Diaz or De la Hoya, in my view, one was a weak belt holder and the other was a weight drained, semi retired promoter. Floyd won’t risk his legacy and health fighting a PED head and I don’t blame him.

Posted May 7, 2013 3:23 am

Haimat, no khan doesn’t have the weakest chin in boxing. He doesn’t have a good chin. But his biggest problem is his awful defence. He took some huge shots the other week. And when he went down he got back up. He also took some sledgehammers against maidana and kept going. That ain’t the sign of a weak chin

Khan may be next as Alvarez will be better on Cinco de Mayo 2014 though if I was Alvarez’s team I would aim for Cinco de Mayo 2015 as his chances might be at the optimum then. There is no guarantee that Khan can get through his next fight against a champion at 140 or top contender.

Popkins, why do you think Pacquiao peaked so quickly between 2008-2010? PEDs my man. Couple of years on the juice made his head swell. Half the world knows he is dirty, the other half just doesn’t want to believe. Why refuse a test with 100 million at stake? No BS about pride, please. He was dirty and it took some time to get the shot out of him, by which time he wasn’t the same draw and lost to Marquez 3rd fight, lost to Bradley and then got put to sleep by Marquez. Khan doesn’t deserve a shot at Mayweather unless he gets some belts by beating Garcia / Peterson whoever else am come out victorious in this mini tourney.

Boxing will come back to it’s once historic times if and when the greatest fighter to have ever lived, Manny Pacquiao, makes a triumphant return to the ring. Greatness is what Manny Pacquiao brings to the table any time he walks near a boxing ring. He is a truly great fighter that will be praised for years to come. He is the only 8 division champion that created a reign of terror as he wiped out every known contender during his hey day. Morales, Barrera, Margarito, Hatton, Clottey, De La Hoya, Marquez were all part of hid destruction. The man’s fame is that of a featherweight, but he feared no one. Yes he has lost, but he fights, boxes and never holds or runs away like a fighter we all know. Manny Pacquiao is sincerely missed by the legions of fans in this world and in other worlds we’re not even aware of. He is a beloved singer, dancer, philanthropist, congressman, actor, model, role model and bible study teacher. He loves all people of all religions and cultures and everyone loves him. Manny Pacquiao came from nothing to the best boxer in the history of the sport. Recently, his hit songs sold millions around the world. The Ped Punch he was hit with is not enough to keep him away from the sport he practically designed. The question remains. Will Mayweather the avoider of fighting true champions in their prime or the Ped punching cheater Marquez dare to fight Manny Pacquiao. My answer is after Rios is left brutalized, both of them will run away regardless of the millions they are offered to fight the legend that is Manny Pacquiao. Manny comes to fight, he’s exciting, he brings thrills to fight fans. Everyone is always in awe as he enters the ring because he’s a fighter, warrior, and he’s fearless unlike a recent fighter that receives boos when he fights. Fighters fight, runners run. We know what Manny Pacquiao is, and we certainly know who the runner is.

The Mad Scientist

If Pacquiao gets past Rios like he suppose too expect Manny to fight Alvarado next..I doubt Pac fights the Bradley/Marquez winner after they both send his ass to hell.

Kahn vs Mayweather is a fight that makes dollars, if held in England, but no sense. While Kahn is fun to watch, there would be little doubt of outcome.

RIOS VS PACMAN. ITS FIXED-THATS WHY ITS GOING TO HAPPEN IN CHINA. RIOS IS GOING TO SELL HIS SOUL TO THE DEVIL. PACMAN WINS AND RETURNS TO THE USA FOR ONE FINAL FIGHT WITH MONEY MAY.

Boxers know, Maywether knew, they know more about Boxing than us, Mayweather was definitely scared of Pacquiao., so put a spanner in the works.

IMO no real boxing fan wants to see Khan vs PFM,,,,Khan has been KO by guys that can’t tie PFM shoes,,,also lost to Peterson,,,,who?? no rational fan will tune in,,,,Floyd is a natural 140lbs but prefers to not sacrifice to do the weight and fight at 147lbs,,,I don’t care about PFM going up to 154lbs,,,,just not his weight,,,,PFM can fight the winner of Marquez vs Bradley,,,if Bradley wins he can erase the Pacman ghost for PFM,,,Bradley(if he wins) would have beaten PAcman and MArquez,,making the fight believable,,,Canelo can fight Cotto, CUban boxer,,el Perro Angulo,,,,before trying to force a fight with PFM,,,,the fact of the mattr is that PFM is on his own level and nobody can tough him,,,,Peace

I concede the point. Mayweather did run from Pacquiao. I agree. Mayweather was scared. But in hindsight — he would have won. He probably would have won easily. Mayweather vs. Marquez partly proves the point. If Mayweather beats Alvarez easily … WOULD YOU THEN SAY THAT PACQUIAO WOULD HAVE BEATEN MAYWEATHER? No way. Pacquiao would then not be in the same league as Mayweather in terms of speed, power, ring smarts.

So, Mayweather screwed up. He was scared. I agree. But he should not have been. Mayweather knocks Pacquiao out easily today. And if it were 5 years ago — Mayweather still beats Pacquiao in dominant fashion. The only difference is that it would probably be a decision win. But Mayweather wins easily.

Styles make fights — but old fighters losing their speed, power, and skills also make fights. And Pacquiao is losing his speed, power, and skills. Pacquiao didn’t get knocked out because he was too aggressive and he wanted the knockout — Pacquiao got knocked out because he is losing his speed, power, and skills. He is basically done. He has not had a knockout win in like 5 years. The only guy Pacquiao has a chance of beating is a guy who doesn’t move (Rios). The promoters don’t want Pacquiao to fight anybody else because he can’t win. He needs a comeback fight — Rios is his only shot. But I think Pacauiao is done. Great career. But it is over.

Styles make fights, Pacquiao v Marquez, Pacquiao was trying to knock Marquez out, after the 3 fights before, too much and got countered with a great punch, had to knock him out, Pacquiao is Boxer and a fighter, he is respected by the Boxing fans.

Mayweather vs. Alvarez may or may not happen. Mayweather has huge advantages in terms of ring smarts, movement, and speed. Alvarez will have a huge advantage in terms of weight and strength. I would give the edge to Mayweather not because of how great Mayweather looked vs. Guerrero — but because Alvarez did not really look that great against Trout. The judges mostly had the Alvarez vs. Trout fight 115 to 113 which is 7 rounds to 5. That is not exactly a dominant performance. I had it 6 rounds to 6 rounds where Alvarez wins 114 to 113 because of the knockdown. But nobody can really say that Alvarez won huge or in dominant fashion. If you really look at that fight, you see a lot of lunging from Alvarez, a lot of wide shots, and he looked gassed for several rounds. How will Alvarez look against Mayweather, who is faster, smarte,r and has more movement than Trout. If Alvarez catches Mayweather, then YES, maybe Alvarez wins because of the advantage in power. But I don’t give huge credit to Alvarez winning over Trout. It was not a dominant performance. Alvarez is young — if he gave himself 4-5 years to develop his skills then maybe he would have a chance against Mayweather. But other than a lucky punch — Mayweather wins. Probably easily. Sorry Mexican fans. Mayweather beats Alvarez. Mayweather vs. Khan. Mayweather vs. Alvarez. It almost doesn’t matter. Mayweather will probably beat all of these guys. Sorry Mayweathr haters.

Pacquiao vs. Rios is the best fight for Pacquiao because Pacquiao basically can’t beat anybody right now unless he is standing right in front of him and not moving. The promoters themselves admit that. Pacquiao needs a comeback fight and Rios gives him the best chance. This does not say a lot about Pacquiao and where Pacquiao should be in the Pound for Pound Rankings.

Pacquiao fights, he doesn’t fight once a year and run like a Track and Field star, he fought Marquez 4 times, a fighter who can counter his style, Pacquiao avoids no fighters, because he is Boxer and a fighter.

No other fight makes sense right now except for PBF vs. Canelo, two undefeated fighters. PBF has fought north of 147lbs twice now. But, DLH and Cotto were past their prime so the challenge wasn’t as tough. The same can’t be said for Canelo who is young and strong, even though I think PBF beats him in a rough and tumble fight. Khan is fast and has good power, but that is about it. He has terrible defense, doesn’t know how to make adjustments, average stamina, and quite possibly has the WORST chin of any fighter at the elite level. A very strong arguement could be made that Khan is not elite. One solid right hand from PBF will put him to sleep….does anybody actually want to see that? Except for maybe die hard PBF fans. And Danny Garcia, please people. Zab Judah started beating him in the championship rounds, what do you think PBF would do to him? Let’s not go there. If PBF vs. Canelo doesn’t happen next, then somebody is ducking somebody. Maybe Canelo is ducking PBF or PBF is ducking Canelo. That fight has to be next.

I don’t know what all you guys are commenting about — but I want to point out that 2013 is turning into a historic year for boxing.

Bradley vs. Provodnikov
Alvarez vs. Trout
Rios vs. Alvardo II
Garcia vs. Judah
Mayweather vs. Guerrero

And soon …

Kessler vs. Froch II
Maidana vs. Josesito Lopez
Mickey Garcia vs. Juan Manuel Lopez
Malignaggi vs. Broner
Golovkin vs. Macklin
Bradley vs. Marquez

And now Pacquiao vs. Rios in Maccau.

We don’t know who Mayweather will fight in September — but these are great fights in a great year for boxing.

Boxing is back. It is big. It is international. It is growing. This is amazing for a sport that American-focused commentators would say is dying. This is a great year for boxing.

Khans got great potential but unfortunately hes too slow mentally for it to be realised, he has a lot going for him against mayweather, he has electrifying speed, and height/reach advantages, I could potentially see him giving FMJ a few issues early on, and also as mayweather is a non aggressive fighter this could also play into Khans hands. And if,.. IF, he lands a few clean punchers, causes a cut/bruising he has more a chance as it may cause mayweather to think a little, but thats a BIG if, catching FMJ clean is not easy game.

Unfortunately, Mayweathers higher boxing intellect will eventually take over, Khan wont adjust and well see the same Khan we always see, hell fade, and if he gets clocked by Mayweather we may even see a rare mayweather KO.

BUT,.. this as always with a Khan fight will make Compulsive viewing, it wont be a boring match, it will have edge of your seat boxing, there certainly be excitement and it will be great for boxing and its fans. And when I say boring, not implied to the FMJ v Guerrero fight,..which was just a masterclass by Floyd.

no stand-up fighter can beat FM, he would have to be way bigger, longer ,have great stamina and power….only a bob n weave fighter with power, stamina, volume puncher that can avoid clinches….in other words , there is no such fighter right now….Floyd was taught by two people, one offensive and one a defensive fighter….most other father trainers are very limited in the science of boxing

Q

Mark: Say what you want sir. First ballot HOFer, FMJ. Manny ducked the fight.. ducked a test.. then got ktfo… why on earth would FM fight that man off back to back losses and a devastating KO loss? He’d have to avenge those bouts in big fashion, and I don’t think he’ll get those fights. What WILL likely happen however, is that the winner of Bradley-Marquez at 147 will get a shot (unless it’s JMM.. he’s said he doesn’t want that rematch)

Posted May 6, 2013 5:26 pm

Q

Popkins: Jajaja.. Manny and his one year prime, fantastic. Manny struggled with JMM throughout 10 years… remember that. His prime was apparently every fight around Marquez excluding… Clottey, Mosley, Bradley etc

I will always say no Hall a Fame for Mayweather in till fights pacman .STOP HAND PICKING

Posted May 6, 2013 5:22 pm

Q

Evening: Ducked? no no, he never put forth that he wouldn’t fight him. Manny had right there on the table what he had to accept to prove he was so called better, and MANNY ….declined that. Duck = don’t come to the table… say “he needs more fans” maybe, but if this man gives you conditions, and you say NO… then get ktfo in the meanwhile, that’s on you.
