Burns put in some of his worst rounds in a few years in this fight. His layoff probably contributed to that. However, he weathered he storm and came on strong from the late 7th and 8th and 9th. Thats what being a champ is all about, all champs have had bad fights or a set of bad rounds, but coming through and winning is what its about, and Burns is both a winner and a champ.

Surprise, “Burns had an easy fight” someone out there even said I don’t know boxing, it sure looked like a boxing lesson to me! Gonzalez will beat burns on a rematch, at 3am in the morning,,,,,Burns is down hill from this point on,,,trust me!

”Coulda” ”Shoulda” ”Woulda”……usual C.R.A.P from haters. Burns won it fair and square, had more heart, more stamina, paced himself better, came on strong when it mattered! NUFF SAID!

Burns will be beat by any of the titlest at 135

slip and hit

Gonzalez quit on his stool showed he was a coward…more then a warrior ready to be carried out on his shield…

Posted May 13, 2013 4:12 pm

slip and hit

If you quit your a quitter…O.D. showed his heart against Hopkins going down pretending not to beat the count then after 10 pounding the canvas and jumping up..lol.Kid had skills but big tough heart…nope maybe thats why he liked wearing womans nighties..lol.Plus Gonzalez hasnt been in 5 tough wars with top killers and is a proven warrior…not bad skills but warrior, not so far.Cant compare Gonzalez with say Mike Tyson who kinda stopped fighting against McBride…Tyson proven warrior who was at the end of his rope, can you say the same for Gonzalez??? Dont think so…

TWELVE ROUND FIGHT NOT 6 OR 7…Burns outlasted him and won fair and square!

TKO9

I didn’t see any sign of an injured wrist, he wasn’t telling his trainers his hand or wrist was injured, they were working on his legs due to fatigue, he quit due to exhaustion, simple as that.

With no injured Wrist… LOL

After watching this good larl fight, its fair to say Gonzalez was winning the contest up to the end of the 7th round. He was and probably still is the more talened fighter, but lack of big fight experience lost it for him. He’s too used to blasting people away with KO’s or dominating lesser fighters. Burns maybe a little limited were it comes to technicality but he is a world class fighter with experience and he’s a clean living elite athlete to boot. Gonzalez went hell for leather and tried his best to put burns away in the 7th, but he stood there in his guard soaking it all up and returning fire without the slightest of quivers. I think this really dishearted Gonzales and he clammed up, which affected him physically. His legs went and his fire power disappeared. I dont beleive he injured his wrist, Burns cracked his heart…

Burns took Gonzalez heart away from him,the uppercut Burns landed before Gonzalez quit hurt him.Burns although rusty looking was starting to drag Gonzalez into a brawling fight, which at this point of the fight Gonzalez was already used up his spirit was gone.Gonzales quit maybe because of the wrist but more so,he shot his load and was about to draged into something he had no heart for.Gonzalez didnt get off his stool for one simple reason…he was finished…beaten. And I belive if Gonzalez had the heart to come back out,Burns would have draged him into a beat down…therefore stay on the stool.Wrist my ass a warrior in a easy fight would have fought on…but that wasnt the case, the walls were closing in he knew it.I think of watching Ali fighting all those rounds with a broken jaw,or Morrison fighting Joe Hipp with that broken jaw climbing off the canvas to stop Hipp.I respect all fighters who get in the ring, but lets not turn this fight into a fairytale where Burns had nothing to do with making this kid quit and by taking his heart.

This is the second time someone has said Juan m. Marquez has quit in a fight, i find it very hard to beleive…..I’ve followed his career from day one and cannot remember it happening someone please refresh my memory or confirm that it hasn’t happened

Prof Konje

Jose Gonzalez beat Burns’ for seven rounds until he hurt his hand. The Burns people were looking for an easy mark which is why they selected Gonzalez. They were surprised when Gonzalez took over the fight. Burns was exposed which is why Gonzalez will not get a rematch. Burns got lucky. If Gonzalez had not hurt his wrist he would have beaten Burns all night long.

Burns would win any rematch with a lot less fuss

Id like to see the Vasquez fight in Scotland in September to be honest

If burns had quit after taking so much punishment, would you all b on here gushing ? No! You would b saying rickys a coward for quiting. Burns won, deal with it!!!!

I agree, Burns people would not let him go near Gonzalez unless is a must. Even though I would like to see more evidence of Gonzalez’s wrist being hurt we all know he was winnig the fight and was winning with ease. People here are act like no one in boxing history have quit, look at Oscar DLH, Eric Morales, Marquez (both) ect. and are consider greats of this sport.

The authour needs to understand that the fight is over 12 rounds, not 7. JG’s dominance in the earlier rounds amount to nothing if he can’t maintain that dominance; the scorecards were 87-84 at the time of the stoppage – undoubtedly Burns would have got the draw and remained champion or, if he scored a KD – not unfeasible given how tired JG was – he would have won outright.

So please, can we park this biased rubbish about how Burns was ‘schooled’ – sure he didn’t look that great but he was winning the later rounds. Physicality and conditioning, not to mention mental strength, are part of boxing – and JG showed he lacked these qualities.

For those saying ‘rematch’ dream on. Utterly pointless – Burns clearly won this match.

The Truth Hurts, Gonzalez made Burns look very beatable. Basically won every round until he hurt his wrist and had Burns out and shaken. Fighters get hurt and sometimes they have to stop. It’s happened many times in Boxing.. As we are now finding out Gonzalez wrist was hurt before the fight but continued anyway.. on the Cards Gonzalez was winning in Burns own back yard.. a rematch is a Must but we know Burn’s people won’t let then anywhere near Gonzalez…

Look…. after saturdays fight Eddie Hearn’s just wants to protect his investment…… hence on rematch!! Now he’s going to have to work like F Warren did in protecting his fighter. Hearn’s knows he nearly had egg on his face and burns will have to be matched carefully. He sighed a world champion….. but for how long??

You don`t get rematches when you quit like a girl.

Gonzalez hurt his wrist before to fight Ricky Burn. H e did not want to postpone the fight and he paid for it. Ricky we need a rematch!
