That’s because mayweather won’t fight someone that can beat him.

Uncommon

Some of you guys are so hard up to find a fighter any fighter who you think can beat floyd that you say the dumbest things. I think Floyd made it clear that he is fighting his last fights at 147. If Canelo wants it and I hope he does it needs to be at 147. Just like Mayweather came up to DLH’s wieght.

upon further review, PUBLIC ENEMA may have a point(?!). it’s obvious that only the ropes are peventing Alvarez from hitting the deck or at least bending his knee a’la Miguel Cotto. i’m ashamed to admit that a douche like Enema saw this first . . . (lol).

Mayweather is not going to fight Canelo. Trust me. He will probably fight either Alexander or Kahn.

Public Enema… Actually, after a second viewing, not only could the ref have deemed that a knock down, but I think there’s also good grounds for him stopping the fight due to the look of sheer cowardice and fear etched across Canelo’s face. I can definitely see ‘No Mas’ in his eyes. lol

canelo should forget floyd. He needs to fight Lara-perro winner or cotto on September 14th. Or even martyrosian. Good luck on Floyd reaching more than 1 million ppv buys fighting guys like guerrero.

I am not a big fan of Mayweather but the man always comes to fight and always in shape and with his technical skills and hand speed, I think he would prove too much for young Canelo. Personally I think that a Mayweather-Kahn match up would be a better matchup.

Webster – When was the last time Canelo fought at 154lbs?? He’s never walked into a ring fight night weighing 154lbs.. He’s always come in at 172+lbs and over… Hardly a fair fight against the naturally smaller guys.. if he can’t make 154lbs without Ballooning up to a Super Middleweight or make 147 safely he needs to get his Cheating Butt up to his true Weight class and fight guys his size like Sergio Martinez and Quinlin…

FM took on DLH at 154 years ago, long before he was settled in at 154, hell, he weighed 150 on fight night. Cotto was an established champ at 154, too, and probably fighting at his best weight in his career. I think FM needs to go up to 154. At least Khan isn’t being mentioned anymore.

Posted May 14, 2013 10:12 am

Exiled Yank

FM has the all the negotiating power in this fight. I would rather it be at 154 because I doubt Canelo can hit 147. At the end of the day, even he does make weight, he’ll still be a LHW on fight night, so the weigh in won’t matter at all. I think FM should go to 154 and take that championship as well. He’d be one of the few champs to hold and defend the championship in two divisions. That would be impressive, no matter who you root for.

Floyd just fought Cotto at 154. When is the last time Alvarez fought at 147? Floyd is a genius at getting out of the tough fights and selling the easy ones. If you want to keep shelling out $70 a pop to watch one sided beat downs against blown up featherweights and shot fighters, more power to you. As long as you do, Mayweather will have no reason to take on a live challenge. Floyd will never fight a tough fight again, his deal with Showtime guarantees it. It will be all blown up lightweights and Jr Welters from here on out, more one sided fights to pad his wallet. You reap what you sow.

Is Floyd a good fighter? Without question. He’s defo a first ballot HOF fighter IMO. And he definitely has some nice skills at his disposal too:

Hand speed = 7.5 out of 10
Foot speed = 6 out of 10
Check hook = 10 out of 10
Boxing IQ = 7.5 out of 10
Defence = 8 out of 10 unquestionably one of the top 10 defensive specialists of this era
Power = 4 out of 10 (power isn’t everything though)
Chin = 6.5 out of 10 hard to gauge as he rarely gets hit and has ducked most of the hard punchers in or around his weight class. That said, he has been badly hurt by a PED Mosley and cotton bud fisted tomato can Darren Coley (who?) was a punch away from putting his lights out too.
Physical strength = 7 He’s defo stronger than he looks (something that should always raise an eyebrow with fighters from that region of the world, especially ones who refuse to travel outside the US.
Jab = 8 Defo has a spanky jab on him.
Combination punching = Had this been the Floyd of old he would’ve defo scored higher in this category, but I can only award him with a 5 nowadays.

Overall score 7 out of 10

Hidalgo, you would be screaming bloody murder if Floyd took on a guy he had 22 pounds on these guys are not HW’s and your feeble Wlad K argument holds no water… The only chance Canelo has is using extreme bulk to win the contest.. Under present conditions these guys would be separated by 3 divisions on fight night… If Floyd’s not OK with that, it’s his perogative at 36…

Posted May 14, 2013 5:09 am

The idea that Mayweather is gonna make all the concessions to a kid who has proved VERY little on boxing is nonsense and yeah beating Austin Trout on points does not make you Great… When Floyd wanted a shot at superstardom (Oscar De La Hoya) he did not tell Oscar what weight the bout was going to occur at, or venue or anything he did what he had to do in order to get the bout…Mayweathers 36 years old and if he’s not open to spotting this kid 22 pounds and 14 years then Canelo can either take it or leave it, Martinez who’s 16 years older than Canelo was crazy enough to discuss touch to 150…. Canelo screwed himself when he put the world on notice that he’s a LHW on fight night…Floyd’s weight has been consistent for years and honestly he does not need Canelo who’s the flavor of the month…

If I was Floyd i’d ride out the end of his career staying at one weight class. If he feels right at 147 then I say if any challengers come forward they can join him at that weight. At hssi age now, even though his last performance was outstanding in my eyes, I don’t think his body needs to ride that weight see-saw. Was once a fan of Floyd, then changed due to his ego, but from his last outing, was liking the humbleness in him. Back on track lol GO FLOYD

Canelo let the cat out of the bag when he got on the scales weighing 172 which is pretty much LHW and more than where Hopkins fought Pavlik at weigh in… Floyd’s not spotting the kid 22 pounds at age 36… There is not a single FMJ detractor who would be OK with him having a 14 year and 22 pound weight advantage… Face it Canelos a nobody compared to Floyd… After Bradley even Manny who has done over 1 million buys knew he would only get 40% max… Alvarez is apparently not gonna get the concessions if he wants the old man he’s gonna have to do what he has to do… When Floyd went after the cash cow he had to cave to Oscars demand ie going up in weight even the gloves he wore according to reports..

Why is everybody so afraid of? Trout allowed this guy to rest & didn’t punch with any conviction & still the fight was close; Floyd would close the show in style. That I’m sure about. Can’t see this going any other way.

Smart move by Floyd. You don’t let someone call you to a certain weight. Thats not how Boxing works. The man who calls the other man out must meet at the desired weight of the man being called out. Thats why Dawson MANNED UP and came down to meet Ward. IF Canelo wants the Fight BAD enough he’ll come down to call Floyd’s bluff. IF not then his call out was empty rhetoric.

Of course, if Canelo does come down to 147 to fight Mayweather and loses, the Mayweather ballhuggers, including the “experts” will all claim Mayweather is the greatest ever. Going down to 147 is harder than fighting at a catchweight. Floyd knows this. That’s why he wants it. What do you Floyd ballhuggers have to say about your great hero now? Oh, let me guess, “Floyd shouldn’t have to fight a guy that weighs 170.” THEN STAY OUT OF THE JR. MIDDLEWEIGHT DIVISION! KUMQUAT!

If Floyd doesn’t take the fight at 154, he’ll be boycotting what could be one of his biggest victories. If he takes it at 154, I predict Floyd stopping Canelo in the later rounds…

Say “NO!” Canelo. You fight as a jr. middleweight. If Floyd is afraid of your size and power, that’s his problem. He’s the one who keeps dipping into the jr. middleweight division. Let the fight go. Say “NO!” You’ll never regret it. But you will greatly regret if you say yes. Floyd will make you look like a fool. Don’t be over-confident thinking your so great that it won’t matter if you go down in weight. There’s a reason Floyd wants you to drop 7 pounds: He wants to weaken you! “NO!” is the only appropriate answer. You are already a big star. You will be a bigger star as time passes. Even without Floyd Mayweather Jr. NO!

As if an aging fighter with 5 fights left in his contract is going to jump up a division to face a young fighter who’ll outweigh him by 25 pounds come fight night. “Floyd just had 16 thousand at the MGM” but he didn’t sell-out. perhaps because the tix were so expensive, which makes $10 ticket scenarios moot, i.e., it hasn’t nor will it ever happen. Btw, is that 1 million PPVs official? otherwise, i seriously doubt that Mayweather even beats DLH’s set-up bout v. Mayorga coming off of a 20-month layoff. anyway PEEJ, are you stating that Floyd’s biggest PPV bouts only coincidentally included the likes of DLH, Hatton, and Cotto? because, i’m arguing otherwise. that even an undefeated Floyd struggles to match the drawing power of previously defeated fighters like DLH, Hatton, and Cotto. in fact, only Canelo holds the promise of matching the 2.5 million PPVs purchased for the DLH bout but even that’s not a certainty. Canelo’s fanbase will do their part but Mayweather simply lacks that type of drawing power.

I won’t disrespect Mayweather’s skill, and I agree that it’s in his best interest to avoid fighters that naturally outweigh him by 20-30lbs. HOWEVER, haven’t we had enough of his best interest over the past 6 years? Since that streak of running through DLH, Hatton, Zab, Gatti, etc, he’s been handpicking guys and making MASSIVE money each time, while fighting only a couple times per year. GREAT for Floyd and he has every right to do what he wants. But as a fan, I have no interest in watching him take a victory lap. The Floyd I like made historic and epic fights I wanted to see. The Floyd we are left with doesn’t care about his fans or the state of the sport that made him fabulously wealthy, as evidenced by his strategy of padding his account before retirement instead of making watchable and legendary fights. Again, he has every right to pad his record and his wallet, but we don’t have to enable it by buying the fights.

I fully disagree with the writer of this story. With all due respect sir, have yoy ever boxed? Do you know the difference between a slow ring and a fast ring? I could go on but the point I’m making is that you cannot suggest for Mr. Canelo to do what you are decreeing unless you understand the bio physics involved in comung down from your weight class as opposed to going up out of your weight class. Goung down takes atremendous toll on a fighters body. uch more than the converse. I’ve had punches thrown at me and believe it isn’t for armchair wanna bes. I have suspected for some time the writers on these forums jad their own personal agendas and look to appeal to a certain fanbase. Unfortunately Eastside boxinf is not exempt from this. Yes Tito went from 147 to 160, that is 3 weight classes and when he went to 160 he started getting beat and beat up. Floyd went from 130 to 147 which is 17 pounds higher to Titos 13 pounds. Not to mention he has taken 2 fights at 154 who’s is 24 pounds higher. So you can’t compare Tito to Floyd cause Floyd has moved to more weight classes than Tito. Floyd is a great and first ballot HOF

TRUTH

Fears: He is young and building his name but YES, it was about time he fought someone like Trout to prove his worth. There are some good fights at 154-160 for him but I don’t blame him at all for trying to get the fight with Floyd given Floyd is the Biggest Legacy and Money fight out there…and Floyd has a title at 154…a division you want to clean out which I guess he doing by calling Floyd out and Floyd appearing to back away.

So once you make that challenge and the other guy back out, you can move on because you can say “Hey, I tried to get that fight and the other guy didn’t want to defend his title (which was a 154 pound title).

I can’t blame Floyd for not wanting to fight Canelo though: He is a natural 154 pound fighter, Young, Hungry, Skilled, Powerful, and…Floyd isn’t getting any younger and would be the naturally smaller man in the ring.

Beating Canelo though which I think he can do would be big for his legacy. Money he has. Legacy he can still build especially given the fall-out of what could have been the biggest Money fight in history against Pac.

ITS JUST BUSINESS.

It’s called negotiation. Start strong and maybe Canelo’s people will make other concessions. That said, love him or hate him, Floyd’s a smart guy. Canelo’s only real advantage over Floyd is size, so why not try to take that away from him. Canelo’s a growing boy though, maybe he should move up to middleweight – there’d be a lot of interest between him and Martinez and/or GGG.

Problem is Canelo is too big. Everyone says Floyd has fought at 154 twice before but look who he fought. Oscar who started his career at 130 and Cotto who started his career at 140. Floyd started his career at 130. Canelo started his career at 154 and when he comes in fight night he is 170 or or so. Yeah Floyd will get bashed for that but that’s life. Yes Canelo does have a good fan base but all this he brought 40 thousand to the Alamoedome is a little misleading. He was selling tickets for 10 bucks a seat. If Floyd did that he could sell out soccer stadiums. Unfortunately Floyd’s tickets are priced to high which only allows a certain type of wealth attend his fights

Truth, Tito started at lighter weights also along with Jones and Roberto Duran and other “REAL” greats!! Matter of fact, Tito went from 147, to 154, to 160 and fought the champions in each of those divisions. Roy Jones went to heavy weight and fought Ruiz…. What part of that don’t you get??? Floyd started at 130 and won titles on the way up to where he is now. His weight of around 149 on fight-night is an issue when facing bigger guys in the 154 pound division because on fight-night, they can out-weight him by 15+ pounds.

Good for Mayweather’s camp I say. However, perhaps it’s tactics, it could be that if the fight can’t be made at 147lb and Canelo’s team keep pushing “Money” Mayweather’s team say “OK, we’ll fight at 154lb but you get a lower percentage etc.”

Dino, from Youngstown, Ohio.

Mayweather said when fighting Cotto that, he wanted to fight Cotto at the weight Cotto feels comfortable. Why can’t he fight Canelo at 154? I would take another route if I were Money, I would make Canelo sign the contract saying that on fight night he can’t weigh more than 156/157. This way it will not allow him ( Canelo ) to ballon up to 170. I think that’s fair.

Canelo isn’t going anywhere near 147. Mayweather thinks he owns the world and always comes up with some kind of BS to avoid fighters. He did the same with Pacquiao. Excuses, excuses. Canelo doesn’t need him at all. He’s starting to grow and a big following is growing even bigger. Canelo is young, I’m sure he or his team won’t be that desperate to fight at a disadvantage regardless of how much money they wave at him. I think Mayweather can beat Canelo at any weight because he’s too green. He doesn’t havethe tools at this time in his career to run after a guy all night. Floyd will hit, hold and move, which will make for a very boring fight. Canelo should choose a real fight vs GGG, Martinez, Lara or other top guys. Those fights will be much mor exciting to watch. No way on earth Canelo agrees to drop down.

TRUTH-You’re comparing Floyd demand of 147 to Pac making Cotto & DLH come down to a catchweight, but there is 1 big difference. Pac wanted those big paydays he got courtesy of DLH and Cotto. In this case Floyd could take it or leave it as far as a Canelo fight goes because he will make the big money no matter who he fights. On the other hand, Floyd is the key to Canelo’s biggest by far payday of his whole career, so he wants this fight like a baby wants a tit. So, since he wants it that bad he has to do whatever it takes to make it happen. Floyd is in the director’s chair whether you like it or not and he can call the shots as he pleases. Even if Canelo does come down to 147, he will still outweigh Floyd by 15-20 pounds on fight night so what the Hell.

Well, gentleman, I must say, I rest my case. This man wasted NO TIME in finding an impossible demand in order to sabotage another potential big one. Canelo DOES NOT IN ANY WAY ,SHAPE OR FORM habe to concede something that outrageous. 151 was perfectly suitable. You cannot habe it both eays. Mr. mayweathers hip hop fanbase will always find right and justification in EVERY THING HE DOES,UNFORTUNATELY THIS GENERATION HAS EMBRACED THE VICTIM US AGAINST THEM MENTALITY. I eould suggest to those who see this for what it is,DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND INTELLIGENCE in debating with these individuals. They will not budge. Stark:

NO CATCHWEIGHTS. We know Canelo is healthy at 154. And 154 is the weight-limit of the division. Why alter the division?
That’s Floyd’s philosophy of not wanting to “drain” a fighter like Pac does.

I don’t know if Canelo can make 150 since I am not him and there is not point of doing a catchweight. Especially for a title fight.

We have weight divisions with weight limits. How about following them given it is a Title Fight. Pac used a catweight and Floyd ripped him for it. It would make Floyd look like a hypocrite and discredit his fight(s).

Floyd has fought and won a title at 154/jrMW without catch-weights and bragged about it, right?
So why change now unless you are admitting something?

Floyd just needs to say that fighting jrMW are not in his best interest. That he just doesn’t feel right in that division. And then move on.

Edgar Guevara:

You don’t take a fight at a weight that will drain your body. It doesn’t matter about age since all people can be affected by weight loss no matter how old you are. He fights at 154 for a reason…he is healthy there.

Floyd has fought at 154 before and Won a title while promoting his fights with Oscar and Cotto as the “healthier” version of themselves and how he wouldn’t want to drain them like Pac did. So draining Canelo would make him a hypocrite.

Floyd should just say or admit that he is just not suited to face off against a Legit 154 pound fighter. And there is nothing wrong with that. Size can matter. But it doesn’t mean Floyd can’t win. He just not want to risk it.

And why concede your health for another when Floyd himself doesn’t do it (as far as dropping down in weight he would struggle to make).

If the fight happens, it happens. But Never fall into the trap of draining yourself for money if you care about your legacy since you will be put in a big disadvantage and probably lose and regret it the rest of your life.

Public Enemy:

The point is that Floyd criticized Pacquiao for draining both Cotto and Oscar while He, Floyd, supposedly fought them at their best weight, 154.

By demanding Canelo to drain himself down to 147 would be Floyd being no better than what Pacquiao and discredit his victories.

Either stick to your words and fight the Man at your best or admit you are the same as the man you accused of draining fighters.

Now Floyd doesn’t have to fight Canelo because there is an obvious “natural” weight discrepancy but it’s up to him to stand by his words or not.

Canelo wants Floyd for two reasons: Legacy and Money (which he is already on his way of going up in every fight because he is a Star)…so if I were Canelo I would call Floyd out as well. But I would not drain myself down to 147 because you are not putting yourself into position to be healthy.

It wasn’t a “Demand” as much as it was an financial agreement. Basically, I will help boost your pockets/PPV buys despite not facing me this time around if you agree to fight me next. Floyd said No so Canelo said No…which was the right thing to do.

As far as weight, forget it. One thing Floyd hasn’t down is force himself down in weight on the demand of another fighter because his “Health” is more important. There is no point in fighting while drained even if you get a big purse. That is, if you care about winning and your legacy. Floyd showed patience pays off.

Now going up in weight is different because you don’t have to add extra weight to your body if you don’t want to. It’s more dangerous to take weight off.

TRUTH

Floyd is a WW who actually weighs-in as a WW or maybe just a couple of pounds North…on fight-night. Compare that to many others that fight in a division and blow up 10-20 pounds. Floyd is best at WW.
As far as Canelo, NO WAY should he move down to WW because it will mean we will see a weak version of himself. So basically, Floyd is saying “I don’t want to fight you” which is OK given Canelo’s size. That is, if we are into this “weight divisions” are in place for a reason- “Fairness.” Because other than that, I say just fight and forget weight.

Floyd is also basically saying that he was never a legit 154/jrMW Champ because he couldn’t fight a “natural” JrMW….Like Canelo is. Oscar and Cotto are both guys that have moved more than one weight division over the years after winning titles in lower weight classes.

how you figure? Canelo challenge Mayweather at 154lbs. even though this would require Mayweather to compromise his P4P dominance, he also has two wins v. HOFrs at this weight. including a recent lopsided “W” v. the albeit ringworn 154lb gatekeeper Cotto. this was the entire basis for the 154lb challenge. otherwise, it’s apparent and understandeable that Floyd no longer feels that confident above 147lbs v. legit middleweights. IMO, i hope this ends all talk of a Canelo v. Mayweather bout. Floyd is a welter and Canelo needs to focus on dominating middle. that is the logical trajectory of their respective ring-profiles. i could care less if they’re not able to confirm another PPV payday, which is what this is all about anyway. bottomline, even though Floyd has dipped his toe in to middleweight waters, he and Canelo are not natural opponents.

I sincerely hope that the fight takes place at 147 and with Mayweather, I’m certain that it will. I’m sick and tired of some of these people always getting the advantage such as “catch weights,” judges, etc.

Team Mayweather will have the fight in Vegas and NOT Texas.
Contracted weight will be 147 pounds.
Weigh-in several weeks before the actual fight.
Another weigh-in on the DAY of the fight.
No open scoring.
Drug testing.

With all of these things in place, it doesn’t leave much room for cheating or anything else. Mayweather will beat the crap out of Canelo in front of all of his delusional fans. That’s a fact!
