FA – I agree as much as I would like to see judah vs Peterson but not for another title shot for not so Super Zab. Talk about a cat with nine lives n Zab comes into mind, Tszyu, Baldomir, Cotto, Clottey, Spinks, Mayweather, Khan, Garcia and he lost em all. Zab is a big disappointment for so eone with his talent, no heart and no brains led to his underachievements.Posted May 21, 2013 4:16 pm

“One thing that really bothers me is seeing Judah getting title shots after title shots and always failing for years and years now…” – As a Zab fan I like that he’s getting the shot at Peterson. As a fan of boxing, not so much. In fact Peterson holding that belt is bogus given he just got KOed by another 140 lb belt holder in Lucas. Strictly a technicality, and an example of why this sport’s credibility continues to diminish in the mainstream.Posted May 21, 2013 2:02 pm

Broner would easily beat Matthysse, Garcia and any 140 or 147 pounder today. I don’t like the guy, but no one beats him including Floyd Mayweather. Broner is going to beat the life out of that loud mouth that’s never beaten anyone, pillow punching Malignaggi. After that easy win, Broner beats anyone except Manny Pacquiao.Posted May 21, 2013 2:43 am

One thing that really bothers me is seeing Judah getting title shots after title shots and always failing for years and years now ,whyyyyyyyyy..??!!!him and Miranda I think will get big fights for losing I am sure even if they keep fighting when they reach their 50th!!!!
Why can’t Broner make smart strategic moves? Why can’t he jump over Matthysse in a race to get to Floyd? When he KO’s Paulie he has a World Title at 147 and is a viable opponent for Floyd to unify his World Title.. He’s certainly a more attractive opponent than Alexander who doesn’t have anymore pull than Guerrero.. And from the perspective of fighting Canelo at 154, Broner is a more attractive opponent in the aspect of not being as dangerous.. Broner vs Matthysse is going to be made. LM is going to be around for 5 or 6 years.. Broner is going to be around for more than twice as long.. No way is he going to be able to avoid a fight with Lucas.Posted May 20, 2013 8:32 pm

F/A facts are facts, Broner jumped the most dangerous weight class to face the weakest link at 147 with a title, It seems to me the fighter in America are becoming very comfortable with this, This has zero to do with race or the color of ones skin , and the size of there heart or lack there of, peacePosted May 20, 2013 6:58 pm

Looks like the Supreme Court crawled out from his dungeon. Funny you resort to race baiting when you can’t come up with any legit argument as to why Broner ducked Matthysse and a deep 140 lb division in favor of cherry picking the lightest hitter at 147. You’re a troll.Posted May 20, 2013 6:01 pm
Broner is 23…. Even if he fights Floyd and whoever at 147 he has to fight Matthysse at some time. Matthysse is going to be around for a few years yet. It WILL happen. Garcia, Matthysse, Broner, Rios, Alvarado, they may not get their hands on Floyd — but they will fight each other at some point. First up is Garcia vs Matthysse. Sweet.Posted May 20, 2013 5:57 pm
There is a reason Broner jumped 140 and that reason is Matthysse, Lucas will destroy Broner in very brutal fashion, I say Floyd will go after Khan -garcia, Alexander, maybe Bradley then save Broner for his final fight in his showtime contract- Lucas will be left out in the cold, Neither Broner or Floyd will fight him I say Floyd would beat Lucas easily, -peacePosted May 20, 2013 5:24 pm

Matthyse broner could be a good competitive fight. Broner has the skill and speed to beat mattyse.
Matthyse didn’t look great against Peterson despite the KO. he looked sloppy at times. i am not sure if that’s because he determined Peterson can’t hurt him, as i’ve seen him be sharper.
Broner is an elite level fighter that can beat Matthyse. That said, i like Matthyse a lot and consider him to be undefeated, and think he definitely can beat Broner. if he brings his A game and isn’t sloppy, he can definitely win.
i would give Broner a slight edge.
Danny Garcia I don’t really see as someone beating matthyse. he’s very good but not elite level.
Rios is too macho for his own good here. he takes a lot of shots and if Matthyse lands as much as most do againt him i think he will go down or his corner will stop it. i don’t think any junior welterweight stands a chance banging with Matthyse.Posted May 20, 2013 1:21 pm
Don’t let AB fool you with his act Supreme Court… How did he get the Paulie fight??? By pretending to be meek and mild—like Clark Kent. “I can’t sleep.” AB wants Floyd so bad he could taste the claret flowing out of Floyd’s nostrils in the Cotto fight.. Adrien is an consumate actor.., “What? Little me fight Floyd? Whoooa! What are you trying to do get me killed? Poor little me fighting the biggest, baddest man on the Planet? So much bigger and stronger than poor little 130-pound me???” … Of course he’s chomping at the bit to fight Floyd—but he doesn’t want you to know it. He doesn’t want Floyd to know it. He wants to knock the cheese out of Floyd—knock him TFO, and raise the name of Adrien Broner above the Quasars…. Now whether he can do that is another story … but he’s maneuvering to get the fight.Posted May 20, 2013 1:20 pm
Everybody sounds like a bunch of screaming, crying teenage girls at a Justin Bieber concert. Boxing is getting so muddled with all this division hopping by the fighters. All y’ll–go back and watch a replay of Matthysse’s “stoppage” of Lamont Peterson. Then come back here and tell me which punch or punches that it was that put Peterson down and stopped the fight. You won’t see them because they didn’t happen. Ref Smoger didn’t see them either. Neither did Matthysse or Peterson. Matthysse needs to stay put in the jr. welterweight division and fight Danny Garcia next. He needs a definitive win over Garcia. If he clobbers Danny, then he needs to take on Marquez–if Marquez is interested in fighting him. If he beats Marquez, which would be one helluva task, then he should set his sights on jumping up to the welterweight division. But really folks, either watch a replay of the Matthysse/Peterson fight some time this week or next weekend and pay particular attention to the slo-mo replays of the second “knockdown” in the fight. This is the one that didn’t really happen that caused the fight to be stopped. No doubt Peterson probably wouldn’t have made it two more rounds, but that was a premature stoppage if I ever saw one. Check it out boys. See for yourselves, then report back to me. :)Posted May 20, 2013 1:19 pm
Broner has been asked repeatedly if he will fight Floyd, and his answer has been consistent and unequivocal: the last one, he raised both middle fingers to the journalist who asked the question…
So why keep repeating here on esb that Broner will challenge Floyd after Malinagi?
This is funny, how everyone is ready to jump on the Lucas band wagon. Just like everyone believes Rios was going to run through Abril, Robert was going to beat the breaks and knock Floyd out. For the guy talking about Lucas didn’t do anything illegal is a pure fan boy. There is know reason to hit any fighter on the back of the head, more than twice at one time. But that didn’t cause Peterson to lose the fight. He’s a fighter and should know how to handle different situations. Plain, and simple Peterson lost the fight. I believe Lucas would be a good test for Broner. Broner is not Peterson.Posted May 20, 2013 12:00 pm
Good Grief… Lamont Peterson is a terrible boxer. He’s barely gotten better since he was completely dominated by Tim Bradley. He’s still a walk-in brawler like Rios—but lacks Rios’s concrete chin. Any big puncher with skills is going to take the synthetic testosterone gargling Peterson apart—including Danny Garcia. Garcia is a better counterpuncher than anyone in the division. Victor Ortiz fought a draw with Peterson and VO is one of the worst boxers ever to reach championship status—as is Andre Berto… Adrien Broner, on the other hand is highly skilled. AB should take Malignaggi apart and challenge Floyd. Khan is a wasting commodity. Khan still gets his noggin clubbed in every fight. His defensive and clinching skills remain sluggish under Hunter.
There are GREAT fighters at 140 and 147: Matthysse, Garcia, Broner, and Mayweather. There are six (6) ATG match-ups that COULD be made between these 4 great fighters. It looks like Matthysse-Garcia will be made. Thank the stars we may get (1) one great fight!!! Who gives a damn about a Peterson-Judah fight? Or a Khan-Peterson rematch? I could care less. I only watch 2nd rate fights because they’re shoved down my throat. Fights like Mayweather-Alvarez don’t get made.
Why keep talking about the loser’s bracket??? We keep matching losers with losers and winners with losers. We rarely match winners with winners—which sucks to the quasars. I love the Pacquiao-Rios fight. I loved the Bradley-Provodnikov fight—but those 2 fights are pabulum compared to the much greater titanic clashes that are so damned obvious … but never get made.Posted May 20, 2013 11:54 am
Btw, describing a scenario that would enable the likes of Judah to once again “squeeze back into contention” as an eagerly-anticipated development implies complete cluelessness about what’s important to the Sport of Boxing, which does not include propping Judah up once again for another undeserved title-shot. Matthysse has already defeated Judah and Peterson who are now B- and C-level fighters who are NO longer eligible for the PPV paydays. besides, hasn’t Judah been granted enough of those opportunities? and hasn’t he lost each and every one? time to cast Judah aside for good and focus on the current era of contenders not retreads who’ve proven beyond a doubt that they can not endure the heat of elite competition for 12 entire rounds.Posted May 20, 2013 11:24 am

“I predicted a Matthysse victory via split decision” was Waaay Off. anybody following the sport should’ve known that Peterson could not last the distance v. Matthysse. also, “Vito’s”(?!?) subsequent over-analysis of what Peterson wasn’t able to do is utterly irrelevant. this matchup was ALways about what Matthysse would be able to do and whether Peterson would be able to stop him withOUT the juice coursing through his system. a KO or TKO win was the predictable outcome. i’d be embarrassed to claim credit for accurately predicting such a foregone conclusion and wouldn’t bother trying to characterize one as erroneous as a “split UD” as “almost close”. not even close is more like it. this article is a classic example of “Vito’s”(?!?) consistent bias in favor of American fighters. in fact, just look at all the keystrokes wasted speculating about Broner and Peterson’s future(?) as if Matthysse’s success relies on what they decide to do(?). “Vito” is obviously still reluctant to concede 140lb dominance to Matthysse, which is as self-evident as Peterson’s elimination from the ranks of serious contenders for a welter title.Posted May 20, 2013 11:12 am

Lot of damage control going on here among certain sections. Many picked PEDerson to to win this fight but are now reaching for excuses to try and taint and undermine Matthysse’s victory, ranging from Matthysse’ ”dirty tactics” to PEDerson abandoning his boxing and deciding to trade. Firstly, and one can not stress this enough, the deck could not have been stacked more heavily in PEDerson’s favour if he’d been in charge of arranging everything himself. He had home advantage and the lost list of advantageous factors that accompany it, which often combine to mean the difference between winning and losing. A fellow American ref in tow who gave him 18 seconds of recovery time after each knock down and didn’t issue one warning about his excessive octopus like holding. And chances are he was very likely jacked out of his sense on an industrial does of testosterone too.
Secondly, Lucas did not fight dirty at all. All he did was to keep on punching with his free hand whenever PEDerson used illegal spoiling tactics. PEDerson locked up Lucas’ arm very tightly with one of his own and then proceded to try and cheap shots as Lucas was trying to free himself (an illegal tactic both Ward and Hopkins use to excess, something they’re only allowed to get away with due to (with the exception of the grand total of 2 fights) always having American refs presiding over their fights. Matthysse was wise to this though and had obviously been expecting it so he knew that the only course of action he could take was to keep punching with his free hand. The only reason some of the shots caught PEDerson on the back of his head was because he kept turning his head to the side, again something Ward, Hopkins, and Dirrell do when they’re draped all over their opponents like a lonely octopus and tying their opponents up with all that illegal excessive holding that is so integral to their style of ‘fighting’.
and lastly, PEDerson barely landed any punches in the first round when he was using his feet, so I don’t know why people are trying to make out it was some type of schooling he was dishing out. lol. Just because he was backpedaling around the ring and looking ”slick” flicking out shots that were mostly hitting fresh air and gloves sees to have given people a false sense of what actually went down, or rather what they wanted to go down. Regardless of what tactics PEDerson employed he was getting his ass knocked the F out sooner rather than later. Matthsse hits way too hard for him with both hands and he knows how to create the openings to land his shots.Posted May 20, 2013 9:40 am
Vivek> “broner is no Peterson “? Garcia vs Matthysse should be a real barn-burner if Garcia takes the fight. While these string of KO’s is good for Matthysse, he could not get rid of Judah or Alexander. I think if Matthysse overlooks Garcia, he will end up staring up at the lights. Garcia can crack with both hands as well and he sets up his opponents. Matthysse does it the old fashioned way… However, if both throw their hooks, I think Garcia’s will get their first… and if it lands perfectly, I think he can change the tide of the fight. His hook is shorter and more compact, so it should be interesting.Posted May 20, 2013 8:28 am

First time I saw him he kicked Devon Alexander’s ass hole and Alexander got the decision. You knew by that fight that Alexander was the one the promoters were trying to pump up. I mean if you saw the fight it was so lopsided in favor of Matesse but Alexander moaned and screached his punches like a female tennis player and somehow (In St. Loius- BIG SURPRISE) got the win. On what criteria I’ll never know. Perhaps they scored the fight on Devon’s endurance getting rocked repeatedly with power punches dead on amd still standing.
Anyway I knew Matesse was a special fighter then.Posted May 20, 2013 7:04 am

All those American fighters are going to be gunning for Lucas now. He’s already at massive disadvantage when fighting over in the US as it is where EVERYTHING is stacked against heavily against him. However, the odds of him continuing to defy the odds diminish each time he fights. Look at the amount of American fighters he’s already laid waste too (or should of got the decision against), make no mistake about it many of them and the US promoters will be conspiring with each other to plot his eventually downfall, giving each other tips to defeat him and trying to undermine and sabotage him and stopping the gaucho with no name from riding back to the Pampas with all those American scalps in his pouch. The only reason it hasn’t worked yet is because he has the great equalizer in both hands: Bone crunching one punch KO power. He’s a lion in a forest of hyenas. An Orca in a sea of Mako sharks.Posted May 20, 2013 5:45 am
