Squared-Circle (a.k.a. LionKing)

Another poorly-written article by Jackson. What a surprise!

Where do they get these writers from?….How proffesional ” A few days ago I penned an article “Floyd WILL Fight Canelo Alvarez on September 14th!” and the particulars of this fight being made were reflected quite accurately in that article. In fact some posters to the article, called it a crap article”

ESB come on get some proper writers!

Floyd may be the GOAT… He might also get his butt kicked by Canelo. The 2 possibilities are not mutually incompatible. If Ray Robinson was the GOAT you sure wouldn’t know it the night Ralph Jones trounced his skinny hinny.

NICE article….Those WHO have any common sense knew Floyd would face Canelo. Fight Aficianado is in a BAD mood because he predicted that Floyd would duck Canelo. SO he’s behaving like his Underoos gave him a Wedgie.

Fight Aficionado

“A few days ago I penned an article “Floyd WILL Fight Canelo Alvarez on September 14th!” – Pat yourself on the back much? You weren’t first with any scoop you just wrote an opinion piece without any substantiated facts. Floyd announced this himself on Twitter so nobody had the scoop.

Alverez has all the confidence in the world now.but when it gets close.to fight time, he will have doubts. Hes a one dementional fighter who gets tired bcuz everything he throws has power behind it, thats i.experience and will be his downfall.

Facts are Facts Tumbo, reality is that your bit Canelo is gonna get it and like YOU SAID SHORTLY after Guerrero he won’t fare much better.. In fact I see Canelo doing worse than Robert because Guerrero is a MAN and Canelos a BIG strong Kid with suspect stamina going against one of the most fit athletes in the earth… You have 3 months to see Canelo in his current light then downward adjustments will be made…

“[weighing in at] ANYTHING above 168 is a LHW fight that’s just a simple fact of boxing”. nonetheless, there are those who will try and spin this simple straightforward fact to favor their deceptive and erroneous bias. otherwise, every time Canelo weighed-in at 154lbs or below, he was officially a jr. middleweight. “that’s just a simple fact of boxing” . . . NEXT?

It was not too long ago that Canelo went the distance with Matthew hatton, and looked less than stellar against Ryan rhodes….now I,m not dogging these guys, they are both solid British fighters, but that’s all they are….they are good domestic fighters who are levels below the world title scene.
Now I,m led to believe that he is ready to outbox floyd, I can’t see this happening, and give him a punchers chance at best….and I,m not hating, I like the boy ….buy he ain’t the man to give floyd his first loss, I,m pretty sure of that.

Rapid, ANYTHING above 168 is a LHW fight that’s just a simple fact of boxing which is gonna be magnified when your opponent weighs 150!or under…. Floyd’s las weigh in was 146, fight night 150-151… Canelo was slightly under 154 for Trout, so we are discussing LESS that 2 pound with the ability to pack on obscene poundage overnight which is his custom… I defended PAC in the same manner against Cotto, Miguel had bee 146 prior bout against Clottey then had to make 145… Manny got flack from some because he made a practice of this then tried to induce Cotto down AGAIN from 154…Canelos got the best chance imaginable and if it were any other 36 year old boxer I would have to really think… But this is the sickest, craftiest boxer of the generation…

Posted May 30, 2013 2:24 pm

Matador

It wasn’t a crap article, but this writer is acting like a crap artist. Quit acting like you “called” it. Pretty obvious this fight was going down. Floyd needs his fights to exceed 1 million. Not too many guys outside of Alvarez who can do that.

Posted May 30, 2013 1:57 pm

Edd

If Floyd does fight so light and wins, well, he will get credit for beating a younger Canelo. But if we keep it in perspective, Floyd may win not but not for beating Canelo on even terms. Even means just that….for both fighters. Further, beating Canelo with any advantage is not the hallmark of what makes ALL TIME GREATS, GREAT!.

Posted May 30, 2013 1:49 pm

Edd

From the looks of how DLH “fell”, and his reaction afterwards when he got “hit” by hopkins, it’s not difficult to make a case on DLH feigning pain. Between that and his following Floyd around like a robot when they fought, seems boxing is either rigged or taking a page from the WWF or whatever they are today and turning boxing into entertainment and not actual competition. If Floyd really wanted to prove he is the best, there would be no need for him to fight so light especially with a title on the line. More impressive if he fought and beat Canelo at 154 and not 152 or 147.

Posted May 30, 2013 1:35 pm

Redmond…..How many light heavyweights you know come in at 72?? Are you freeking serious?? Middle weights weigh that Dude….I know your smarter than this….. Sergio Martinez is NOT a big Middleweight, and he’ll weigh 170 172 fight nite….Does that make him a light heavyweight too??

Posted May 30, 2013 1:06 pm

Bring it??? Canelos activity was LOW against Trout which=A Floyd Mayweather fight!! He’s not in Texas with open scoring… You think he’s gonna beat Floyd in a chess match? If he goes Rambo he’s gonna get his eyes shut and stopped in his stool..

Posted May 30, 2013 12:54 pm

Canelo had 288 rounds against relative low level opposition.. This next 12 is gonna render the prior 300 irrelevant…This is Floyd Mayweather Canelos gonna be trying to rebuild after this bout…

Posted May 30, 2013 12:52 pm

SREDMOND

Rapid, your MO is not unique Floyd could be in the ring with a guy who weighs 180and you would make a case how this is standard operating procedure and how Floyd rigged the game.. Many writers (Dan Rafael) and even Canelos most recent opponent Trout have discussed the MASSIVE weight discrepancy potentially 3 divisions… Canelos 22, that 2 pound is a good long piss and a NiCe steaming DUMP… Hopkins dropped 3 pounds at 39 knocking out ODH And later going to 175…. Canelos out of the Witness Protection Program time to pay his dues against he greatest boxer he’s EVER gonna fight, in probably his biggest payday… He’s gonna be made a fool of, almost all of them are against Floyd..

Posted May 30, 2013 12:50 pm

Viva Mexico!

This is going to be crazy can’t wait for the fireworks to start! Canelo is going to bring it!!

Posted May 30, 2013 12:47 pm

Is Canelo ready??? He started his pro career in 2005 and has almost 300 rounds of exprerience against smart old heads like Shane Mosley. He badly needed the Trout fight to round out his experience against sharp shooting outside boxers who can tag you from any angle. This is what he told his team. “I’m ready for Trout. He’s the best at my weight and I need this fight against a good young boxer to prove myself.” His team was trying to push Cotto on him but they listened.

Posted May 30, 2013 12:46 pm

Nonsense Rapid, you come to the ring at 172 you’re very MUCH a SMW OR LHW if you show up to a SMW weigh-in at 172 the fight would not go on or you’d be given a few hours to sweat off 4 pounds but we are discussing a guy who’s weighing in at 154 becoming 172, that’s NOT the norm but he can still swell up, when the Beatdown is delivered by FMJ all bets are OFF… Imagine Floyd with 22 pounds on a FAR older opponent… Guys would take out hits on him LMAO… Canelos dead meat

Posted May 30, 2013 12:43 pm

Rapid

Most super middles are probably rehydrate 15 plus pounds….Light heavy’s the same….. so, Canelo, would have to weigh 180 to 190 to be a super middle, or light heavy… What he weighed for the Trout fight would be more what a middle weight would rehydrate to.

Posted May 30, 2013 12:30 pm

Rapid

Redmond…..The 152 catch weight is a descent deal for the kid, but, even if Canelo weighed what he did for trout..172, how is that “being a super middle, or a light heavy”?? How many guys at 68 who only rehydrate 4 pounds?? Hell, Cotto is small for 54, but he was 166 fight night for Mayweather….Does that make him a monster too?

Posted May 30, 2013 12:26 pm

SREDMOND

The choice was a catch weight, 147 or NO fight Canelo got a SWEET deal and still gets to come to the ring as a SMW or LHW… Bernard fought Oscar at the age of 39 years old dropping to 157 and still stuck a bomb in his liver… 38 year old Martinez wanted Floyd so bad he was talking 150 to get the fight… Canelos coming in with a HUGE size advantage over a fighter he’s 14 years older than… The only fighter in recent terms he had definite physical parity with was Austin Trout who declares “Canelo too big for Floyd” other than that Canelo has been accommodated with a steady diet of guys not matching his huge bulk at 154… Giving up 2 pounds with NO rehydration is nothing at 22 if he’s the guy to beat this old man he will make it happen… But alas Hes fighting one of the GREATEST of all time…

Posted May 30, 2013 11:44 am

SREDMOND

The fighters who looked the best while STILL
losing to Floyd Mayweather were HOF veteran boxers who had ALOT of experience against World Class opposition… Oscar De La Hoya and Miguel Cotto, Canelos portfolio of upper level experience begins and ends with Austin Trout a nice technical boxer with limited power and not much World Class experience himself…Canelo is a very good young fighter but the only advatages he has are his size and power… Both are assets Mayweather has easily overcome before … The death of Alvarez is gonna be his SLOW FEET, He needs to set himself to punch and we KNOW FMJ is gonna keep him off balance and wear him out… Many of the same guys in here picking Canelo are gonna be RAINING excuses when he loses in lopsided fashion or gets pulled out…This is gonna be a fun buildup but the end result is just gonna be another scenario where people say “who can beat him” ????answer Father Time

Posted May 30, 2013 11:36 am

Its funny to read some of the comments made about Canelo’s rehydration weight. 166 lbs 167lbs, 169lbs, 170lbs, 175 lbs, 178lbs, 180lbs,….and so on. Next it wil be 200lbs,,, lol. Lets keep it reasonable and real. Lets not exaggerate so much.

And as for the GREATEST business man to ever box, Floyd Mayweather, this was a strategic, calculated risk in taking this fight. With this 6 fight contract that he has to fulfil over a predetermined amount of time, it was probably going to be hard to duck Canelo over the length of the contract. In light of this, its very logical to take.Canelo on now, instead of later. Barring any ring WARS that Canelo could be in, in the future, he is rising, while Floyd is starting to battle father time. NOW is the time for the master of the ring to take out the young lion. Another smart move by the greatest business man to ever lace them up. Props to Floyd for that, but thumbs down for the catchweight BS!

You guys sound CRAZY taking off 2 pounds if water is nothing Canelo is 22, and he’s gonna be able to have his customary bulk in the ring.. Only Reason we keep on droning about this type of stuff is that Boxers have 100 excuses when they lose..

Posted May 30, 2013 9:40 am

Public Enemy, I agree that fighting Canelo at 154 with a 160 rehydration limit would have been a better choice for Floyd. As it stands now, if Floyd wins, he provides his non-fans the excuses they need to criticize his positions of one of the greatest fighters in boxing history. Other than perhaps a psychological advantage, I don’t see much different between 152 and 154, but regardless, it’s a catch-weight any way you want to slice it. I just hope that this doesn’t become the norm for Floyd as it was for Pac…though Pac’s reasons for catch-weights seemed to be more to debilitate his opponents rather than to level the playing field.
For example, when Pac fought Cotto at a catch-weight of 145, his excuse was that he (Pac) couldn’t make the 147 pound limit. However, four fights later he made Marquez ballooned from 135 to 146 because supposedly Pac could not fight at a lower weight than 147. Only Pac fans would agree his catch-weights fights were legit.

Canelos gonna look MUCH worse than Oscar De La Hoya did against Floyd and that’s gonna be a shock to those who think Alvarez is gonna get to FMJ… ODH win or lose had been facing TOP World Class comp and Champions for years when he and FMJ mixed it up… Canelos gonna look VERY bad his focus will be the body, Floyd’s gonna be moving and tagging early like crazy… Then in the 8th he’s gonna turn up the heat…

Zuck the whiners are you and this writer that say poor Floyd he is giving a lot of weight he most likely will come in at 146 when Floyd came in at 151 and no unofficial weight because Floyd gains more weight. The whiners here is people like you and some of this writers that are either groupies or are on the payroll.

Another BS catch weigh fight. How come this writer and fans make a big deal about the weight . The rules apply the same for everyone. But when is a superstar they say it is not fair. If you want the 154 title than it should be a 154 fight . 2 pounds makes it unfair for everybody else that follows the rules to try to win a title at 154.

canelo is probably the most likely of all possible opponents right now that might be floyd. this will be the first time i pick an opponent of floyds beat him. im definetly going with a canelo win vs floyd. this kid is gonna continue to surprise everyone and he is gonna be ready for floyds running and punching on the run. and immediately the new star is born. the new BIG MONEY. the new oscar. hopefully broner gets up to 154 to face canelo too in the even canelo wins. either way if floyd wins its realistically time to start talking goat. if floyd wins i dont see why he doesnt fight pac, martinez, broner, mathysse, even ggg. if floyd can beat canelo i mean theres no reason for floyd to hold back on anyone or anything. no matter what i will be super impressed with whoever the winnner ends up being. but im picking canelo to win this. IM CALLING IT NOW YOU HEARD IT HEAR FIRST!!!!!! BEARS BABY!!!!! CANELO!!!!!
