Cotto was charted at landing more punches with a better percentage on Trout than Canelo did, the difference is that trout landing more on Cotto with a better percentage, and Canelo’s prevent defense in front of the open scoring helped.Posted June 13, 2013 11:44 am
Sorry, Trout threw 300+ more punches, and landed 30 more through the bout, on paper. The numbers for neither guy are impressive….Posted June 13, 2013 11:40 am
TARK: Floyd fought a different fight than the taller Trout, and there are more differences that you haven’t noted. A. Trout rarely commits and flicks and runs around, whereas Floyd sat and really put punches on Cotto up close. He got hit with some jabs, but the amount of them is greatly exaggerated, and it was taken away from him. Trout was charted as being hit much more by Cotto than Floyd was, and Cotto was definitely more battered against Floyd, and out on his feet in the 12th. Part of Trout’s main problem against Canelo, is that he just didn’t have what he needed to take advantage of Canelo’s gassing. B. Cotto was also markless after his bout with Trout, because Trout isn’t the most accurate, committed puncher, so that’s greatly overrated. We still witness Canelo gassing out against Trout half way through the bout. C. Canelo didn’t have his jab taken from him… he was loading to throw the right hand and nothing more 99% of the bout… he landed some uppercuts when Trout started rushing affected by the open scoring, but Canelo was largely inactive and got rounds for hitting harder (without the KD one judge would have given the bout to Trout). Trout was charted at landing 338 more punches than Canelo in that bout…. and Trout didn’t look mugged at all, he was virtually markless as well after the bout.Posted June 13, 2013 11:38 am
A 23 year old being badly weight drained from 2 pounds, jajajaj… he needs to move up to Middleweight then. Furthermore nothing was negotiated AGAINST anybody. Canelo wanted 150, and he ended up with 152. Floyd’s the 36 year old fighting in a weight range he doesn’t belong in against a man who people are now saying is too big for 154 (if a 23 year old can’t make 152, then he needs to get some heart and go to 160 instead of fighting Jr. WW’s like FMJ) Canelo has no right to lose to this old man out of his weight depth. If Canelo loses this fight, he’s done IMO, and it’s a glorious victory for Floyd.Posted June 13, 2013 11:20 am
TARK: At the end of the day it will be what it will be and it won’t be what it won’t, but it’s BETTER that your preach that it will NOT be this and that, because THAT’S what makes it more impressive when it IS what some thought surely it would not be. Meanwhile, let’s not make excuses for Canelo fading and FMJ getting tougher… that’s naturally what happens in 99% of FMJ bouts, so building in an excuse for something happening that is likely to happen naturally based on past events, is really cheap. If a young guy has so much problems cutting down 2 pounds to fight a natural Jr. WW at 152, then why is Canelo’s team even making this bout? They call out a FMJ who just fought weighing 146 while Canelo was at 172. That type of extreme weight disadvantage for FMJ will not be in Floyd’s favor. That’s deck stacking for a fighter in Canelo that can’t actually keep up with skill or anything. I feel like that 2 pounds is more so that Floyd doesn’t have to bulk up too high. A young fighter shouldn’t have trouble with 2 pounds, and that’s the weight Canelo chose, actually, he said he’d fight at 150, then went back on his word. No excuses for Canelo.Posted June 13, 2013 11:15 am
Hidalgo…., “Hatton was a world champion who won a number of titles, had 48 fights of which he lost only three, and you say he had no skills to speak of?”
Right… He had no elite level skills to speak of.. For a guy at that level he was very easy to hit. He lacked a stance, lacked a jab, and lacked footwork.. He was a brawler who overpowered a lot of unskilled opponents with speed and punching power.. Against a border-line champ like Collazo he ran out of gas and nearly got taken out in the last round.. He was exposed in that fight.
Hatton had great talent. He was very smart. Floyd Mayweather Sr taught him to box well enough to out-box Paulie Malignaggi.. But when a great fighter like Pacquiao nailed him with big shots he reverted back to the old Ricky — because those skills were not instinctive yet — and they have to be instinctive when you get hit.. I thought sending Hatton out for the 2nd round was wrong.. I guess you’re almost forced to do that for this level of fight, where the fans pay so much for ringside seats.. But I would have stopped it. I wouldn’t have let him go out.Posted June 12, 2013 11:09 pm
If Feather fisted trout can have Canelo up against the ropes gasping for air by the 3rd round you know Mayweather is going to kill this kid.. The only thing that may help Canelo is if he can still Balloon up to 172+lbs come fight night like he’s done in all his prior fights… otherwise Floyd is going to Box his ears off easier then he boxed Guererroros Ears off…Posted June 12, 2013 7:47 pm
the outcome of this bout will hinge on the efficacy of Floyd’s defense, which has historically been a bedeviling rubic’s cube with arms and fists for his opponents. my impulse is always to recommend increased firepower. humble and neutralize Floyd with 154lb-caliber powerpunching BUT it has to score to have the desired effect of (perhaps?) discombobulating Mayweather enough to claim a majority of rounds and (perhaps?) score a KD or two. Canelo has the natural potential to accomplish this but he lacks the adequate experience. there are so many solid factors to calculate in this equation that a prediction at this point is premature. in fact, i may wait until the weigh-in to toss in a final prediction but i’m defaulting and leaning in Mayweather’s direction. nobody has ever lost money betting on Floyd and money is Floyd’s inspiration. with Canelo as Floyd’s September 16 opponent, he’ll be able to crack the 1.5 million PPV mark this time, which means a whole lot of dollars and sense to “Money”.Posted June 12, 2013 4:21 pm
Hidalgo, it allowed him to NOT get knocked out… Canelos gonna be in unfamiliar territory that I’m betting a young man like him will crack under the strain… Canelo is a very good young fighter but he’s facing a very GREAT older fighter Juan Diaz found out the difference when Marquez knocked him out..Posted June 12, 2013 3:25 pm

“Open scoring is MUCH BETTER than closed scoring. ” In some ways it may be Correctamundo. But clearly in at least one way it is not and we saw how open-scoring affected Alvarez’s performance–he simply quit fighting when he realized he was sufficiently ahead on the scorecards. Fight fans want to see the fights for what they are. The present scoring system has worked for many years. Changing it to open scoring will not make a fighter engage if he doesn’t want to. I’d rather see the scoring kept the way it is.Posted June 12, 2013 1:47 pm

Trouts not an approximation of Mayweather its an amateur comparison… Canelo slipping some of Trouts shots does not impress me relative to the historic quickness and accuracy if Floyd Mayweather NEITHER Trout nor Canelo have much World Vlass experience and nothing that compares with Floyd Mayweather…. This will be another EASY night at the office for this ATG fighter make no mistake about it….Josesito Lopez was tagging the hell out of Canelo, Floyd Mayweather is gonna find his skull with EASE!!Posted June 12, 2013 12:30 pm
Man please, I’m throwing my prediction out there… Floyd’s never gonna be seen as a KO artist above 147 but Canelos SLOW hands and feet coupled with his youth and suspect stamina offer an opportunity for him to need saving… This guy is gonna look like Frankenstein in there or the Mummy trying to catch Floyd… Guerrero had the toughness that comes with being a man whereas Canelos a young gun who’s about to absorb a lot of punishment I would not be shocked to see him CUT and stopped… But being severely outclassed is a GIVEN….!!!Posted June 12, 2013 12:25 pm
This is certainly an interesting and close matchup. Both fighters are great boxers. Hatton was 43-0 when he faced Floyd, but had never faced anyone remotely as good as Austin Trout. Comparing the pint sized Ricky Hatton—who never had any success at welterweight—to the strapping 165-pound Canelo Alvarez is the most ludicrous thing I can think of.
Hatton had no jab… no straight right… no defense… no stance… no boxing skills to speak off… no punch resistance…as could be seen when feather fisted Luis Collazo almost knocked Ricky out. Hatton looked like a pizza face after that fight he got punched in the face so much … In contrast, Alvarez defended extremely well against master craftsman Austin Trout—often slipping 7 or 8 punches in a row. Trout couldn’t land an effective glove on him.
After the fight Canelo didn’t have a mark on him. Trout said, “I was shocked. I was really shocked” … at Alvarez’s defensive finesse.Posted June 12, 2013 11:56 am

Canelos and Floyd are gonna produce a BIG PPV event possibly bigger than FMJ and Cotto but the bouts gonna be BADLY Anticlimatic… We are gonna see Canelo possibly stopped in this bout but definitely outclassed he is just TOO slow and Floyd retains enough of his hand and foot speed to easily hit him and avoid incoming fire…You guys need to realize this is likely Mayweathers LAST trip to 154 and at 147 he is just too good and strong enough not to lose..The nightmare of Floyd’s unbeaten record, financial and Global dominance will continue after September..Posted June 12, 2013 9:57 am

I see Good-THANKS for giving credit where credit is DUE. I think Boxtradamus is the GREATEST Fight Predictor TOO. But it was EASY to predict that Manny would get knocked out because Marquez landed the BETTER punches in the 3rd Fight. After that all he DID was work on his POWER and then Roach completed the recipe by telling Manny to go and knock Marquez out…..Anyone who tries to knock Marquez out gets knocked out THEMSELVES. Katsidis and Diaz SAY that I am CORRECT…. That’s why Floyd’s High Boxing IQ told him to not go for the knockout when he knocked Marquez down almost 4 YEARS ago. Pacquiao’s POOR trainer told him to DO the opposite and he sealed his own Fighters DOOM…..IF Bradley goes for the knockout he’ll get knocked out TOO. IF he chooses to Box then he may sneak away with the disputable WIN.Posted June 12, 2013 1:00 am
Open scoring is MUCH BETTER than closed scoring. At least like in other sports you KNOW the score and what it takes to WIN. In Boxing no one usually knows until the end which is stupid….. Other sports with OPEN scoring STILL have drama when the opponents can make the game close enough…..NO type of scoring should add drama when you’re getting SPANKED… When Lara SPANKED Williams there should have been no drama when the scores were read. SO drama isn’t always a GOOD thing. ACCURATE scoring would be a GOOD thing though whether its open or not….. IF the Canelo-Trout Fight was CORRECTLY scored it should have been AIR TIGHT after the 8 round scores were announced. Then there would have been MUCH drama until the finish. It would have been a nail biter because both gave everything they HAD to WIN the majority of the last 4 rounds. The POOR scoring allowed Canelo to pick his spots more. That’s why he produced LESS Offense vs. Trout than Cotto DID.Posted June 12, 2013 12:14 am

Gonzo’s Triple Treat Vulture Fact(s) of the Day
9. A vulture’s stomach acid is significantly stronger and more corrosive than that of other animals or birds. This allows these scavengers to feed on rotting carcasses that may be infected with dangerous bacteria, because their stomach acid will kill that bacteria so it does not threaten the vulture.
10. While vultures eat mostly dead animals, they are capable of attacking and will often prey on extremely sick, wounded or infirm prey, especially if food has been scarce and there are no carcasses nearby.
11. It is a myth that vultures will prey on healthy livestock, but they are still regularly persecuted by farmers and ranchers who believe the birds to be a threat to their animals.Posted June 12, 2013 12:04 am

El Paso Prophet makes some points… People expected Trout to school Canelo like he did Cotto… Cotto wasn’t able to land his jabs on Trout as easily as he popped Floyd in the snoot with them… Trout expected to take Alvarez’s jab completely away, the way clever southpaw Judah did to young Danny Garcia.. Saul was able to work angles on Trout enough to score with hard jabs. Trout couldn’t attack, work inside, or take the lead like he could against Cotto, or get any rip on his right hook… Cotto never caught Trout with any uppercuts that shook or wobbled Trout either, but Canelo dealt those in as well.
The Cinnamon Kid has some skills, and his defense left him virtually unmarked — while Cotto came out of his Trout fight looking like he’d been mugged.Posted June 11, 2013 7:00 pm

Completely agree as far as the “Race” talk in our society in today’s age is just plan nonsense. We are all humans. All connected from the start. Environment has just altered us slightly for survival.
However, religion, which is a belief system that people live and die by, should be talked about openly because it effects people’s lives. But I would agree that it doesn’t need to be a participant when we are just talking about boxing.

Hecdog I AGREE with you 90%. I watch cherry picker, SMART SMART man cherry picker is. He fights guys past their prime. Is CHERRY PICKER a good boxer YES the best, but cherry picker always has the EDGE, in catch weights , venues, etc. What I have notice is CHERRY Picker is EASY to hit in the JAB department, OLD OSCAR DELAHOYA exposed that. (OLD AGE caught up to OSCAR.). As for being HIT, OLD WORN OUT PAST his PRIME MOSLEY prove that. Canelo will beat CHERRY PICKER he has ALL the TOOLS plus WEIGHT advantage, PUNCHING POWER!!!!!!! But CONDITIONING yes you are 10000000% on the money. Canelo NEEDS a PROPER conditioning coach YOU are RIGHT !!!!!!!! Yes because CHERRY PICKER is the MAN, any fighter would AGREE to all of CHERRY PICKERS demands because of the MONEY.. AHUGE payday for fighting floyd. Thats all the fighters think and DREAM about, WHO cares if I LOSE I will be set for LIFE. Canelo is the UNDISPUTED CHAMP in the 154 pound division, NO WAY giving into CHERRY PICKERS demands WHY should he. Canelo is YOUNG, the next big thing, Cherry Picker is OLD and has been exposed. Fights old guys. I will put my MONEY on the BABY BULL. Time for a changing of the guard.Posted June 11, 2013 3:40 pm
How about people do more research into the history of bodybuilding and go back before the 50′s and look at the physiques Men had been able to acquire “naturally.”
Now I do believe more people are using PEDs than ever today than yesterday but there are still the small percentage that are just always going to have those natural phenom genes, others that have very good genes that work harder for it, and some others that no matter how hard they work they will just never get to a certain point because their genes just don’t allow them.
We are not all created equal.Posted June 11, 2013 3:38 pm

Overall, I’m getting tired of this new generation thinking everyone that looks a certain way is on steroids. No, I’m not talking about those Farm Animals on Flex Magazine who are obviously experimentation but I am talking about Men who get off their ass, workout for years, eat right, and fulfill their genetic potential which is not the same for everyone. Some are just going to e more manly, more muscular, stronger, etc. than others. It’s just the way it is.Posted June 11, 2013 3:25 pm
Canelo doesn’t have a prayer in the world to beat the good boxer that is Floyd. Good, not great. Canelo hasn’t proven anything other than win a very close but arguable win vs Trout. He will have major problems with a runner like Floyd that only throws 1-2 punches at a time. I hope Canelo’s trainer is smart enough to use one of two fight plans that will give him a much better chance of beating Mayweather. The first plan is to get in the best conditioning shape of his life and apply pressure for 12 rounds while fighting 3:00 minutes of each round like Chavez and Duran used to do in their prime. Break that body down and keep moving forward regardless of the feather punching Canelo will be hit with. Mayweather fights at his pace every fight. He lets the first 3-5 rounds go easily, makes the guys miss and slowly works his counter shots in while his opponents get a bit tired and begin losing confidence while getting countered. Canelo need to make Mayweather fight. He has never in his entire career been made to fight. Canelo has to raise his level of conditioning to the maximum capacity. Other guys may have tried this before, but they were older, smaller. Castillo was the only one that followed the plan and was robbed of a victory. Canelo is younger, stronger and has a good jab, which will make a big difference. This is the game plan that will earn Canelo a victory. Secondly, he can sit back and make Floyd come to him. Make a cat and mouse game of it, but make Floyd come forward. Make it a chess match for 5-6 rounds and don’t give away all your cards. Good defense is a must at least for the first 5-6 rounds, which Canelo has showed he can do. Once Canelo makes it to round 7, put the pedal to the metal and outwork Floyd. Canelo is too young to not work at a fast hard pace. The crowd will definitely be in Canelo’s favor, and the judges will not be swayed by this one or two punch fighter, but will be more impressed by Canelo’s non stop action until the bell. We all know what Mayweather is going to do. As usual, hit, hug, hold, and sprint away. Forget the he’s a technician and a great fighter. Sorry, great fighters fight. They don’t run scared to death and hold all night. I hope the ring is smaller, which i highly doubt, but the crowd will be anti Mayweather all night. It’s going to take a great, disciplined, enthusiastic performance by Canelo to win this if he follows my fight plan. Anything less will earn him a loss. Boxing needs to mandate that all fights are held in 16 foot rings. A boxer with so called great movement and defense should have no problem fighting in a smaller ring right? I’ll be sending a letetr to the commissions requesting something like this happen ASAP. The requested change will only make boxing more exciting. Some boxers will tremble with fear, and we all know who those are, Floyd.Posted June 11, 2013 3:21 pm

Have never heard of Canelo struggling to make weight. So not sure where you got your info. Floyd is a much better boxer than Triut. And with open scoring it threw Trout off his game. Now I agree that Trout should add more wrinkles to his game but he is a boxer and not a pressure fighter. I still think Trout won by a round. I’m taking Floyd by Kate stoppage due to Canelos stamina issues and Floyd’s body workPosted June 11, 2013 2:39 pm
Floyd won’t put on a clinic… He may win.. He will have his moments.. So will Canelo.. Did Trout put on a clinic??? I mean, he’s taller than Floyd. He’s much heavier than Floyd. He’s much stronger than Floyd. He was undefeated, just like Floyd. But the boxing clinic he thought he was going to showcase never materialized..
Instead of a boxing clinic such as Floyd put on in the De La Hoya fight, this will be a tightly contested fight for 10 rounds … and Floyd may pull away from a badly weight drained Canelo in the championship rounds … Like I said, negotiating a 152-pound catchweight against a growing kid who’s been having increasing trouble making weight, to the point where he had to rehydrate 18 pounds in his most recent fight, was brilliant strategy. It could be the key to winning.Posted June 11, 2013 1:53 pm
