Squared-Circle (a.k.a. LionKing)

Props to Ole Popkins for taking this fight! He doesn’t have to go out and fight such vicious animals at this late stage in his career. If he goes to fight Adonis, you’ll never here me say anything less than positive things about Popkins again.

Checkout Bhop’s Twitter, it sounds like he’s down to defend against Kovalev. Props. That’s a great stylistic match up.

No one beats Hopkins ! They might get a decision from him but they can never give him a beating , no one did before and no one will!

kid blast, i’d be very surprised if he does.

Hopkins by ud. He will make this an ugly fight. He will jab n grab. Hold n hit. Frustrate this guy vintage bhop style! But if dude is allowed to open up then he may well be the guy to retire bhop. But bhop doesnt allow anyone to do that. Trust bhop will use every trick n the book!

Thee edge? Hell, he would be a 5-1 favorite going in. Hopkins will never, ever fight this monster.

Kovalev is very active, very energetic & strong that could give’im the edge against a very old Hops. Bernard might not be able to keep up…

Fight Aficionado: Fair enough. The analogy to Calzaghe/Lacy may have been somewhat over the top. I agree that offensively, Kovalev is technically an outstanding fighter, but I still see a careless, flawed attitude when it comes to his defense. Coming forward with his hands too low, particularly, with his right down around his hip, spells trouble down the road against the top tier 175 pounders.

“Hopkins-Kovalev bout reminds me of another fight a few years back. Jeff “Left Hook” Lacy was another big knockout artist who went over to Europe and got his arse handed to him by a feather fisted Welshman named Calzaghe.” – Have you seen Kovalev fight? Lacy was just a swarming puncher while Kovalev is a technical boxer who puts dudes to sleep. Great balance, footwork and he gets leverage on his punches without lunging. Nobody should presume he’s just a puncher.

Sweet. If Bhop wants to keep his IBF belt he’s going to have to fight Kovalev. If the fight happens I predict Kovalev wins. If it happens…

This proposed Hopkins-Kovalev bout reminds me of another fight a few years back. Jeff “Left Hook” Lacy was another big knockout artist who went over to Europe and got his arse handed to him by a feather fisted Welshman named Calzaghe. This Russian guy may hit like a mule, but he’s got tons of defensive holes in his game and B-Hop will expose every one of them. This fight, if it’s made, will be Hopkins-Pavlik all over again.

Kovalev has great punching instincts, and is offensively wonderful to watch.

However, he fights with his hands low and takes unnecessary shots.

White hit him often simply because of Kovalev’s focus on offense. White staggered Kovalev with a jab in the second round– simply because of Kovalev’s style of simply rushing in with hands down.

Kovalev has a nice jab, but needs to use it more. He has to keep his hands up.

Hopkins will look to exploit these flaws.

Is Hopkins too old to take advantage of Kovalev’s mistakes?

CORRECTAMUNDO

There will be no knockout here unless Kovalev gets knocked out. I’m taking Kovalev by decision.

Hopkins handled Pavlik’s heavy hands, did he not?

ANOTHER fight for B-Hop that NO ONE wants to see.

this is a chance for BHop to prove his greatness,if he should get a victory over Kovalev that would be extremely impressive.Bernard had some trouble with Chad and the Russian hits a heap harder.Bernard may try to survive early and then do what he did in the pascal fight.

I think Hopkins will take the fight. If he doesn’t he forfeits his title. So what. Why lose any sleep over a champion that won’t take on all comers?

Posted June 18, 2013 10:09 am

Prof Konje

What about Kovalev against Stevenson? Two punchers would be a great, short fight. It seems that the more interesting matches are not made.

1-Ton

Hopkins won’t take this fight. Expect him to vacate his title in favor of some other fight. And don’t expect that fight to be Adonis either. Retirement is also a possibility.

Gaz

Technically the lowest Kovalev should get for this fight is 25% and that’s what he’s entitled to even if he loses the purse bid. The champ is entitled to 25%.

So if he’s happy with that do it. He knows he’ll by far get the most exposure out of fighting Hopkins and he obviously has full belief he’ll beat him to cash in on his exposure after the Hopkins fight.

Ghetto Warrior

Man popkins will be loving this. He loves when you doubt him.

All those Kovalev is the hottest prospect in the sport – wtf. Has serious pop in both hands but come on man…..

I been watching this Kovalev – this dude is straight up, robotic, the mudda is wide open. Man ol popkins gonna eat this dude up and spit him out, another career ruined.

Remember i told you now.

If Hopkins takes the fight, Kovalev will give him the beating of his life, and if he isn’t knocked out, Hopkins will wish that he had been.

Hopkins will probably look to fight a unification bout with Stevenson, best of both worlds cause Stevenson would likely be easier to outbox than Kovalev too.

Posted June 18, 2013 4:22 am

BEARS

I think hopkins will run. If he fights he will have to create some way to fold like fake an injury or he will get his skull crushed like everyone else that fights the skull crusher kovalev. This is great news

Posted June 18, 2013 4:05 am

lilo

we get used to boxing letting us down. champion order to fight no 1 challenger and people are intrigued as to what the champion will do!
if we hear hopkins say, who’s he fought? or i want 90 -10 split, scrap the fight and declared kovalev the champion

Hopkins takes him to school. He’s licking his lips at being written off by a massive hype job.
