Exiled Yank is correct. Oscar raves about all his fighters. didn’t he say Canelo Alvarez is the best boxer ever or going to be the best boxer ever before the Mayweather debacle? After the Mayweather fight, I favor Chavez Jr over Alvarez in a fight at 160. Canelo has the tools but not the smarts. Trying to box a jedi boxer in Mayweather was real dumb strategy. Chavez Jr would let it all hang out like he did the last round against Sergio, something Canelo apparently can’t do. whatever Oscar is smoking, give us some.

The class act in this division is Golovkin, have to agree with Tark, this guy is special, he has it all, anyone that doesn’t see this knows little about boxing. Even though he supposedly has a lousy defence ( where the hell did that myth emerge from? ) and let’s see if his chin stands up once he’s hit by a puncher, got a horrible feeling for his adversaries, he’s still going to be standing right in front of you.
Quillan can’t back this guy up, another easy night for GGG.
I tell you Stevens has a better chance than the rest of them.
Golovkin all the way!!!

This Brother Hidalgo, King Daddy G is packing pure thunder in those gloves of his. Other than myself, there are very few men who are built to withstand the kind of punishment he can dish out. It would be awesome to see him detonate his bombs on the paper mache mandible of that wretched spunk-splattered faux Christian charlatan SOG.

“The only reason his pro resume isn’t better is because, duh, he’s been flat out ducked and avoided by almost every top fighter in the middleweight division, ” And the reason he’s been ducked is because GGG truly possesses one-punch KO power. He has demonstrated that over and over and over. There’s not a champion or top contender out there that wants to experience that kind of power. Not even once. But they’re gonna have to fight him sooner or later or forfeit their titles.

Jeff Lacy seemed like a very very powerful fighter that everyone talked about but supposedly fighters avoided that is, until he was beat down, schooled, humiliated and hurt by Calzaghe. This could be what is waiting for GGG. GGG “seems” good but he is also untested against the very best. If GGG has no qualms about mentioning Floyds name….he certainly should have no problem with Ward’s name either. Besides, Floyd max’s out at 152 and GGG should have NO problem going up 8lbs.

The problem here is that De La Hoya is telling everyone that Quillin can’t beat GGG and

Gonzo the Dragonborn

The 30-year-old Kazakhstan native has made The Summit boxing gym his home base for the past two years and despite two world titles, finding marquee names to enter the ring against him are futile.

One reason may be the crushing defeat he gave the Polish middleweight Grzegorz Proksa a few months ago. Until he met Golovkin, the talented fighter had never touched the canvas. That night he was a regular frequent flyer customer.

Another reason might be the pain he inflicts on sparring partners of all sizes. Whether it’s in the shadows of Big Bear or the bright lights of Hollywood, the guys who enter the ring with Golovkin usually don’t emerge intact.

“He’s run heavyweights out of the gym,” said Sanchez. “When he sparred Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. a month ago, he was blasting him all over the ring. And he was only using 60 percent of what he can do. Really.”

Even heavyweights prefer sparring other heavyweights rather than take Golovkin punishment.

“Nobody lasts long with Gennady,” says Sanchez, who’s trained former world champions like Terry Norris, Miguel Angel Gonzalez and Lupe Aquino to name a few. “Sometimes he takes it easy on guys, but I don’t like him to do that.”

Posted July 9, 2013 1:57 pm

Gonzo the Dragonborn

”Alfredo Angulo is a very strong, very competitive, prideful guy who has a great team behind him, but Golovkin is on another level,” said Garcia, who says he watched three sparring sessions between the two over the course of one week. “His strength, his demeanor, his skill, everything he did in there was just too much for Angulo, which surprised the hell out of me.

“I’ve seen Angulo spar many times before and he‘s always the one doing the hurting. He’s so damn tough I’ve never seen him take a step back, let alone get hurt. I was expecting him to test this Golovkin guy that I’d never seen before, but ‘Superman’ was in there taking and giving, and he hurt Angulo a couple times, especially to the body. Angulo had to get on his bike against Golovkin, which was just bizarre to see.”

”A Wild Card regular who spotted me at the Alvarez-Hatton fight in Anaheim, Calif., this past March whispered that he saw Golovkin give undefeated super middleweight prospect Peter Quillin all he could handle at Roach’s famous boxing club.”

Posted July 9, 2013 1:54 pm

Gonzo the Dragonborn

”A few months later I got a phone call from the producer of a Spanish-language sports show, who swore that he witnessed Golovkin “embarrass” Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at the Wild Card gym during an open workout held for the Latino media a few weeks before the unbeaten middleweight pulled out of scheduled Dec. 4 card.”

N’Dam has straight up ducked King Daddy G on numerous occasions, he didn’t have a problem getting in there with Kid Chocolate though. He would’ve beaten him too had he had a morsel of a brain cell in that thick head of his. He was boxing Quillin’s head off for most of that fight. The only reason he kept on getting dropped is because he stupidly kept electing to trade with Quillin after he’d been badly hurt.

truth

Quillin also is an unproven comodity for a so called champioin, I mean, what top fighters and champions has he fought? Answer? No one!! GGG, like Quillin, both hold belts so GGG doesn’t have to fight anyone to prove to Oscar he’s “worthy” of a fight against Quillin. They’re both champions so they should both fight if they each want it. I would think Oscar is afraid of one of his money makers losing so by GGG fighting someone before fighting Quillin, as Oscar would prefer, he can gage whether or not to risk Quillin’s title. Oscar loves to preach about what is wrong with the sport but fails to see that his actions contribute to the ongoing BS currently in the sport, namely, champions failing to fight champions. GGG is established and needs no introduction. It’s up to Quillin to take his testosterone shots, man up, and fight GGG or stop talking smack via ODLH.

Posted July 9, 2013 1:38 pm

FEARS

I agree with Oscar that Quillin is the best MW right now. I only rank him above Maravilla because of the effects of Father Time on Maravilla and I don’t believe Chavez Jr. can make 160 anymore. I’ve said it before that both Quillin and Chavez Jr. beats GGG. Chavez Jr. has recently called out GGG at 168 and I don’t believe GGG’s team will allow that fight to happen for Chavez Jr. would surely put a beating on him; however, I don’t think GGG should have to go to 168 to fight Jr., but I think Jr. can no longer make 160 which puts the light on Quillin as the best MW. GGG is damn good but all of his opponents to this point have been taylor made for him. He has yet to face someone with the speed and skills of Maravilla, or the strength of Chavez Jr. or Quillin. We have yet to see if GGG can fight while backing up and he would surely be forced backwards against the bullying Chavez Jr. I think GGG/Quillin is more of an even match up, but I give Quillin the slightest of an edge for strength. So, in conclusion I say Maravilla of 3-4 years ago beats them all, If Chavez Jr. can still make 160 he beats GGG, Quillin and this older version of Maravilla, while GGG/Quillin is a pick’em fight in which I pick Quillin. Having said that I know “Tark and his Bandwagon of Merry Men” will have a lot to say about this, but hopefully one day we will have a chance to test our knowledge on this matter.

Posted July 9, 2013 1:05 pm

I usually agree with a lot of Oscars reasoning, but, this time Oscar you ARE wrong, I’ve seen Quillan fight a couple of times, he’s good and that’s it, good, he lacks that little extra to be outstanding, and I don’t think he will ever get it. In my opinion he’s as good as he’s ever going to be now, but, best of luck to him. I think all the talk is meant not to make a fight with GGG but to avoid it.

TARK

Pundits tend to evaluate boxers emotionally instead of rationally… Few writers have any knowledge of the craft and carry their biases on their sleeves. They generally prefer the manly man brawler and toe-to-toe trader to the clever boxer. This leads to the type of odds that surface in Tyson’s fights with Douglas and Holyfield, and goes back to Corbett-Sullivan.

Vrtually every pundit thought Leonard was going to be overpowered and slaughtered when he came back from a 3-year layoff to fight Hagler. They also thought Leonard would have few problems with Terry Norris. Group Think takes over. Writers fall into line with public consensus. Few want to risk being the odd duck who picks the underdog. Their contempt for underdogs is usually laced with sarcastic put downs like “flat footed” … “punching bag” … “four round fighter” … “glass chinned” … “green” … “ancient” … “plodding” whatever. After an upset they seldom praise the victor. Their contempt is turned on the loser. Boxing has become like politics in the sheer amount of vitriolic bile and hatred that’s spewed out.

Many thought Martinez was too short to deal with the 6’2″ Pavlik or the rangy Paul Williams. A prime Martinez would probably have outboxed Hagler with a combination of speed, power, skill and smarts—much like Leonard did. He probably would have beaten pedestrian middleweight champs like Taylor, Benvenuti, LaMotta, Giardello, and Olson with his speed and trickery. But Golovkin is a special middleweight. I haven’t seen anyone with his combination of skills and power emerge before.

Posted July 9, 2013 11:07 am

Hidalgo

I think Quillin would go a full 12 rounds with Golovkin but he’d get beat up a bit in the process, maybe knocked down even once or twice. Golovkin would also be sporting a couple of mouses, cuts and numerous bruises by the end of the fight, but Golovkin would pull off a UD win. Kid Chocolate has very good speed, has much better than average boxing skills–he displayed those nicely in his fight with Winky Wrigh–and decent power in both hands. He seems to have matured a lot–ringwise–since he fought
McEwan. There was a lot of hoopla made about N’dikam before his fight with Quillin but the Kid pretty much made him look ineffective. No doubt the African is very tough, but he had no answer for Quillins superior speed, boxing skills, and footwork. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Golovkin keeps destroying them…

As good as I think GGG is, the fact is we still only ‘think’ GGG is maybe the best middle out there currently. That title of best middleweight still sits with Martinez. Martinez is the guy who beat the guy who beat the guy who was the undisputed middleweight champion of the world, and I think its wrong for fans to just jump ship and declare a new number one in the division when the true number one has not lost a fight yet. This whole situation reminds me a lot of the position Bute was in after the super six when everyone was convinced that Bute was undoubtedly number two in the division when he had avioded the competetion and in turn avioded the top fighters in his division. yet people based their ranking on him fighting b level fighters rather than the likes of Froch and Kessler who had proven themselves. As far as I’m concerned GGG should now be relentlass in his persuit of Martinez as that is the only fight which will prove him as the number one in the division.

He has said that he’ll willing to take Champion-level fights at 168lbs as well because they’ve been having an extremely hard time getting the top dogs to sign contracts at 160lbs. He has said that he would like to fight Ward, so that fight will probably eventually take place at Super MW. I’m a big Ward fan as well, so that would be a really exciting fight for me, personally.

Money where the mouth is then Oscar! Golovkin has to be the #1 in the World @ 160Lb, so make the fight. I agree Quillin’s good, but he’s gotta prove your claim. Having said that IBF champion Daniel Geales no slouch either, so between these 3 a shed load of ca$h can be made within the next 12-18 months, by which time S.G.Martinez could be injury free & make the numbers up! It’s all well & good for ODLH to make these comments, but let’s see him make the fights!

@hookoffthejab – ggg is not really big for a mw. He will def be a small smw. He may have a hard time competing against guys at 168 like ward, stevenson especially if his power does go to 168 w him. Sometimes when fighter move up they dont bring their punch w them. If ggg clears out 160, maybe 154 is a better option than 168. I think he will struggle at 168. He just may be too small for 168

hookoffthejab

Muderman why would GGG move “down” to 154 after cleaning out 160 ? Theres nothing there Money & Saul wont touch him with your pecker …..All the $$ & glory is at 168 , clean out the middleweight division YES move down to 154 NO ..Move up to 168 though he better make it quick because the CLOCK shes a ticking …………….

This is silly. N’dam publicly admitted he was avoiding Golovkin in 2011. Enough said.

Quillin record isnt really that impressive either. Only difference is the best at mw dont want to see triple g. Quillin has been semi protected by gbp. However they can keep running from triple g. Lets see gbp put their money where their mouths are n make the fight. However if triple moves up to 168 ward with his length, skills, n ring general ship will ud or md him. Triple should clean out 160. Then maybe drop down n clean out 154

De La Hoya is correct. Too many people are underestimating Quillin, but I will tell you right now, Quillin is the best middleweight in the world. He continues to improve and his power is unquestionable. Martinez wanted no part of him, and if GGG thinks he can take him, make the fight. He Quillin did spar with Chavez jr and GGG both, and gives them both compliments, but he knows he can beat both and by KO. Trust me on this one. GGG is a fantastic fighter, but he can’t and won’t handle Quillin’s power, and believe me, he will get hit. Someone make that fight, and you’ll see what I mean. A well trained eye sees exactly what I see.

It’s not confidence… He’s hyping his guy… He’s always predicting Golden Boy fighters are going to beat everybody under the sun.

CORRECTAMUNDO

Gennady stops Kid Chocolate. I like Oscar’s confidence though.

GGG is best mw at the moment, but @168, there’s Ward who would win a UD vs. GGG, and there’s Froch who would go to total war with GGG. So Triple G should stay at 160 and take all the belts.

Posted July 9, 2013 1:17 am

I see Good

REAL DEAL After GGG DESTROY MACKLIN He WANTS to UNIFY the BELTS He said so on TV.. Hmmmmmm Lets see the Quinlins, Martinez and Glea answer him ..I DOUBT that. GGG will have to move up to 168 he could clean out that division also.. Hes the FUTURE not the WARDS and FROCHS QUINLINS Gleas etc… You WONT see any belt holders set up. FROCH does put his fists up with his mouth hes no chicken. Theres LOTS of cherrypickers out there in the 160 168 pound division.

Posted July 9, 2013 1:02 am

CORRECTAMUNDO

Let GGG make the P4P list before putting him in with Ward. Ward is #2 P4P. GGG vs Chavez Jr. would be NICE. Roach trained Fighters need guys that come forward with little to no lateral movement.

I see Good

Just finish watching Friday Night Fights… Teddy Atlas Killsme.. Oh TRIPLE G they are talking about. Atlas says GGG should fight Martinez, He says GGG would KO Martinez. Atlas then says Chavez Jr. would be a good match up, then he says FROCH that would be brutal…. NEVER mention QUINLAN NEVER mentions WARD. hmmmmmm Why Because ggg is to DANGEROUS the Belts belong to WARD and Quinlin DONT want the USA to LOSE them.. They will ALL fight GGG and LOSE including CANELO…. Watch WARD AVOID GGG like GGG wis HIV positive. Yes its always the GREATS, Cherrypicker and WARD that wont FIGHT the best. GGG is WARDS nightmare, Just like PACMAN was Cherrypickers. I can see it comming

Quillen has been wanting to fight anybody. He called out Martinez and all Martinez said was who is that. Come on now, Martinez knew exactly who he was while Martinez was fighting lesser comp. You are correct in what you where saying about being the champ. Martinez is the champ but I think GGG is the best middleweight.

Being a world champ when there are so many belts and titles out there does not necessarily mean a fighter is top tier A level material. I have nothing against Quillin. But I don’t see him beating any of the top comp at 160. I just don’t see it. His management is very very selective as to whom they match him up with. I believe they wanted a American based Middleweight Champ. Initially Danny Jacobs was the chosen one. They stripped Martinez of his belt and then made the Jacobs/Pirog fight in which the winner would be handed that belt. Pirog was a unknown commodity at the time while Jacobs had several highlight real type knockouts. The boxing powers that be thought A new American star would be born. Unfortunately for them, Pirog put Jacobs to sleep in the 5th or 6th round and that was the end of that. I think moving foward, we will see Quillin fight plenty of Danny Jacobs type guys.

To be honest, I see him struggling and mabye even losing to the Darren Barkers and Mathew Macklin’s of the world.

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street)

ODLH is OFF with his prediction here and it’s definitely NOT the first time.

3G is definitely the very best MW in the world and this will be proven over the next 1-2 years. MARK MY WORDS!

However, Chocolate is very talented fighter in his own right, but his resume is still weak. I would rank Qullin as the next best MW in the world behind 3G.
Maravilla is past it and his days are numbered. Chavez always was overhyped because he’s been in the Gigantic shadow of his legendary father. I think that Chavez will move up to Super MW real soon anyway, as I think he’s going to have tremendous problems continuing to make 160lbs.

Real talk.

The Real Deal

Geale cleans out the division on workrate, solid chin, humility and allround nice guy attributes. He might even get to prove it if they stop forcing him to take mandatorys and unify titles instead.

Box – great post. It’s time for G3 and Martinez to fight. Boxing Skill v freakish power… my favorite type of match.

Both quillin and golovkin need to step up. for all his appeared skill and power we’ve only seen GGG beat b grade middleweights in proska and Matthew “Jamie moore knocked me out before Martinez did” Macklin and blown up super welters (b grade super welters at that) like Rosado and ishida. And Quillin is probably more untested.

Quillin should fight Macklin, that would be a good fight.

*Quillin

Triple G would stop Quilling in 2 or 3 rounds.

Quillin is obviously an “A” level fighter… He wouldn’t be an undefeated World Champion if he were merely a “B” level guy. He’s a good boxer and a great puncher… But Golovkin is smoother, sharper, moves better, defends better, and punches harder… I believe GGG gets Quillin out before the final bell.. Suggesting GGG fight some unknown pug who Quillin beat is a typical De La Hoya ploy..

Obviously Quillin and Martinez’s associates are going to say they would beat Golovkin… De La Hoya said Hatton and Ortiz were going to beat Floyd — among other people he said were going to beat Floyd.

Of Floyd-Mosley he said, “There’s going to be a knockout.. I know it.”

Posted July 8, 2013 10:03 pm

PEEJ

Quillen is definitely a top middleweight that is why Martinez wants no part of him. But GGG is the best middleweight in my opinion

Posted July 8, 2013 9:53 pm

Robert

LOL!!!!!! Quillin is a B Level fighter at best. Seems like a good guy. But without a doubt the weakest of any of the current Middleweight Champs. 1) Martinez 2) Golovkin (even though I think Golovkin will beat Martinez when they fight, you still have to give Martinez the number 1 slot as of now because he has not been defeated) 3) Geale 4) Quillin.
