Juan will never fight Provodnikov. Prov is too big for him and he knows it.

Provodnikov is tailor made for Juan Manuel Marquez. He’s a Trex version of Juan Diaz.

Jesus, Alvarado does not get a break, war after war, this Provodnikov will bring it all night for sure, Alvarado will have another tall order, a real prize fighter. I hope he makes some good money, he earns it everytime out.

Tim can take this one… Now that Marquez scored a smashing KO over Pacquiao, Tim knows a convincing win over Marquez here can be a signature fight for him… He’s motivated as all Hell…

Both fighters will be on top of their games as much as they ever have in thier lives… JMM is going for an unprecedended 5 World Championships in 5 weight divisions as a FIRST for any Latino fighter in history… People forget that Pacquiao lost his title to Bradley … or Marquez would already have that distinction.

The stakes are extremely high so this will be fascinating … and I would rather see Provodnikov clash with Rios than Alvarado… I like a train wreck.

Bradley’s a shot fighter.

Largo you could be right. But not only was Tim getting stunned and rocked by RP, he was fighting a dumb fight. Although, JMM is a totally different fight Tim will need to fight smart in order to have a chance.

Posted July 11, 2013 10:54 pm

RP can be out boxed easily, I don’t know if MA is a good enough boxer to get the job done for 12 rounds though.

Yup…, I like RP here.

Ruslan was able to close the distace on Pac and Amir in sparring. Mike is nowhere close in skill to those two. He is a strong light welter but that is it. He does not know how to throw a straight punch. Ruslan is going to chase him down and knock him out.

Posted July 11, 2013 6:03 pm

Tomato Can

Really it would have been more logical and fair to have Alvarado/Pacquiao and Provodnikov/Rios… As far as the Provodnikov/Bradley decision, of corse Tim was going to get the decision. I doubt he will ever want to face Ruslan again, unless he becomes the undesputed champ or something. In anycase Bradley is facing a much better fighter in Marquez. If Rulan was able tag Bradley at will, Marquez will set traps for him all night.

“A knockdown was missed in the Badley fight that would have made it a draw. Provodnikov deserved a rematch — but Marquez is a more attractive opponent for Bradley.”

That is a fact! That fight should’ve been ruled a Draw and there should’ve been an immediate rubber match. Ruslan quite nearly upset Bradley by knock-out, but I also scored it a Draw.

…… “It’s not likely that Alvarado will turn it down, because he doesn’t have a ton of options right now in terms of fights.”

That’s the way it usually goes.. Beat Rios and Rios gets a Pacquiao fight… Beat the mess out of Bradley, and go begging for a fight.. A knockdown was missed in the Badley fight that would have made it a draw. Provodnikov deserved a rematch — but Marquez is a more attractive opponent for Bradley.

It was pretty much inevitable that Provodnikov would face Alvarado.. The 2 odd men out.

I was ringside for Rios – Alvarado 2 and it is true that Rios carries the Latino fan base or is more likeable and a bigger name than Alvarado, “Mile High” Mike received a very loud amount of cheers from the crowd when entering the ring and also during introductions.

As far as picking a winner in this fight, it’s a dangerous fight for Alvarado because even when he’s on his bicycle he still gets hit way too much.

Wow Alvarado said he wouldn’t be ready for Pac in Nov. Rios is to easy for Pac i wanted the Alvarado matchup smh. Any gotta give the edge to Mike in this one to versatile for the Russian. Good matchup for him to raise his stock and build on his win over Bum Bum Rios. Don’t like that retard dude talks and talks but never says anything coherent.

i don’t know where the evidence is to state that Provodnikov has a sturdy chin? when has he been tagged by a legitimate powerpuncher? instead, he managed to shrug-off a LOT of flush-shots from Bradley that he won’t be able to do v. Alvarado. bottomline, Alvarado is proven and tested. this will be Provodnikov’s toughest test to date. otherwise, NObody is gonna convince me that Provodnikov has proven himself to be better than Rios coming off a loss to Bradley or superior to Alvarado who defeated Rios. this should be a rigorous but relatively easy KO win for Alvarado within 10. i anticipate that Ruslan will begin to look desperate and helpless in there by the 5th round. at which point, Alvarado will begin to tee-off and we’ll see just how sturdy Provodnikov’s chin and jaw really are.

““Alvarado chose to box Rios to avoid getting knocked out again”….Um! What the hell did you expect him to do?? Do the opposite in hopes of getting knocked out?? ” LOL, Titopa. I’m with you on that.

Sorry boys, but Provodnikov will hammer Mike into submission. Wait and see.

The best fight for Rigo at his weight is Santa Cruz but the fans have to suffer because the boxing promoters either cant get along or are overprotective. Santa Cruz for instance skipped all the best Bantam weights. Likewise, Rigondeaux’s manager Gary Hyde mentions bantams and super Bantoms but not the very best at those weights. If I were Arum I’s probably do Rigondeaux/Mikey Garcia.

Great fight I say, going with alvarado by ud.

The Mad Scientist

Alvarado is the better boxer and if he can buckle Rios with his shots he’ll sure as hell do it to the russian guy as well..Mile Hight by dec or late round stoppage for me.

Ned- the fact that they will show Prodo and not Rigo, a bonified p4p talent, also shows why Showtime is beating the smut out of HBO. It also illustrates how Arum seems to punish his own fighters when they beat his money maker, like he shelved Bradley after PAC, for example. I’m sure Arum is campaigning hard to have Rigo change his style, even if it means brain damage to the fighter, just so he can make a buck. It’s absolutely disgusting.

Manny ducked Gonzo, yeah u heard it

Alvarado looked more like he was running than boxing against Rios. He was using up a lot of the ring like Khan used to do.

Posted July 10, 2013 11:08 pm

MMendoza

Alvarado learned NOT to brawl from Rios 1 and 2; he will be ready to keep boxing on this one with Provodnikov. Don’t see Provodnikov as having much boxing skills in comparison to Alvarado. It will be a great match up though because Provodnikov is like a non-stop locomotive train unfazed by any fear or danger of getting himself KO. Probably will last the 12 rounds because he’s super strong and has a rock for a chin.

Posted July 10, 2013 11:06 pm

By the way, if this fight happens, Alvarado would be wise to fight Provodnikov like he fought Rios in the rematch. If he listen’s to this author, he’ll get starched.

Screw boxing. Lets just put lead in everyones gloves and shoes and let them kill one another…. What happened to writers and boxing fans who actually like the sport? Crazy…

Wow, nice remarks for this author, ay?… “vThis is a fight that promises to be an exciting one as long as Alvarado doesn’t run around the ring like he did against Rios last March in beating him by a 12 round unanimous decision.”

Wow, is gonna be a great action fight. If Alvarado boxes and not stand and fight , he might have a chance to win the fight. If Alvarado brawls with Provo he might end up getting KO. Provo has a good chin. Bottom line it’s gonna be a great fight….

They are doing that because Arum doesn’t know how to promote Rigo. He has already said he doesn’t know what to do with him. There are other promoters that could promote him and do a good job.

Posted July 10, 2013 9:45 pm

Ned

The fact that HBO will televise Provodniko and not Rigondeaux says a lot. Provo is an exciting brawler, but Rigo’s too slick defensive style puts many fans to sleep. It’s all about styles and the ratings.

Posted July 10, 2013 9:38 pm

PEEJ

Yeah uh I don’t really think Alvarado has much of a fan base. He probably has the same fan base as Ruslan. And what Ruslan did in the Bradley fight probably earned him more fans than what Alvarado did in the Rios fight. To me it looked like Alvarado was actually running more than actually boxing. And like I said I know he does not make a huge amount of money and if he is holding out for more that pretty much means he probably wont get the fight, Arum normally goes with one price and that is it, take it or leave it. That means he is not getting paid.

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street)

I grew up in North Denver not far from Alvarado. Have cousins that went to High School (Skyview) with him. He was actually a State Champion wrestler in High School before he started focusing on boxing full-time. He is also one of the very few upper-echelon pro boxers who could have some success transitioning to MMA — if he really wanted to.

Mike will really have to box in this fight, like he did when he beat Rios. He’ll have to keep moving, both laterally and backwards, and stay away from Ruslan Provo’s power.

Mike knows that Provo has BIG power, so I expect to see him boxing like a scientist — not fighting — even more so than he did in his last fight with Rios.

Gotta root for our hometown heros. Go “Mile High” Mike!!!

Rios was chosen because of money. I am from Denver and a Alvarado fan but he doesn’t carry the latino fan base as well.

HUH?

Why did Manny duck Alvarado then if he’s fighting in October. I thought Manny choose to fight Rios, the LOSER, instead because Alvarado had injuries? Cherry pick pick pac.

PEEJ, Alvarado KTFO of Presscott who KO’d Khan, lost to Rios in an FOY candidate, adapted and handed Rios his first defeat in the immediate rematch. Wtf has Provodnikov done that would place him in the driver’s seat of negotiations? if he’s trying to hold out for more money, that’s on him but he’s unknown, has no fanbase, and is coming off of a loss. he’s got zero clout and Alvarado should simply brush him off if he’s not willing to earn his respect in an actual win on Alvarado’s terms. otherwise, NObody is clamoring to pay to watch Ruslan fight anybody.

“. . . as long as Alvarado doesn’t run around the ring like he did against Rios last March . . .” ESB has become the home of clueless pundits and non-experts(?!). anyway, if Alvarado employs the same fight-plan v. Provodnikov, it should be relatively easy work. whenever Bradley chose to box, Ruslan was out of his depth. it’s only when Bradley wanted to exchange that Provodnikov suddenly became very competitive and very dangerous. the styles matchup favors Alvarado who is no featherdusting puncher like Bradley. it was his powerpunching form and power that turned the tide in his fight v. Presscott, which he ended in spectacular KO fashion. i see the same power-uppercuts ending the fight within 10 v. Provodnikov who needs an obliging opponent to be competitive. otherwise, Roach will prepare him for a brawl and NOT prepare him for a boxing match. advantage: Alvarado who can box well enough to foil brawlers and punch hard enough to earn their respect, or Else. Btw, it’s impossible for the champion Alvarado who is coming off of a win v. the notorious and undefeated Rios to price himself out of a matchup v. an unknown Provodnikov coming off of a loss. v. the virtually unknown Bradley. IF Provodnikov wants this matchup, he’ll have to sacrifice or else it’s obvious he wants none of Alvarado.

If this fight happens I think it should be pretty good. If Alvarado is trying to hold out for more money then that’s on him. He’s the one not getting paid and I’m sure they will find someone else for Ruslan

Posted July 10, 2013 6:36 pm

Fight Aficionado

Alvarado just tweeted he’s not going to take alot less money than Bradley did to fight Provod. That means he’s either holding out for more money or pricing himself out of the fight.

“Alvarado chose to box Rios to avoid getting knocked out again”….Um! What the hell did you expect him to do?? Do the opposite in hopes of getting knocked out?? That was a LAME thing to write.

That’s the whole idea of a rematch, make the necessary changes to win the fight. Anyways, this will be a damn good fight. Most people will be picking Provodnikov, but don’t count Alvarado out just yet.

Bill thats why its called boxing dont think you can judge alvarado for the way he fougt second time round he boxed and won.
