In reality, Ibeabuchi would have smashed Ali… He was like a super sized Joe Frazier who could punch with both hands… Ike specialized in cutting off the ring and smashing fast freaks like Chris Byrd.

The K-Bros were too big, tall, strong, and skilled for Ibeabuchi… They’d beat him like they did Sam Peter..

Can you imagine Ken Norton trying to fight Ibeabuchi??? He’d be dead in 30 seconds.

dwc…. You know damned well Vitali beat Lewis… That fight should have gone to the scorecards because those 3 jagged cuts weren’t slashed open with legal blows… If they went to the scorecards, which was appropriate, Vitali wins officially — not just in reality … because he was WINNING on ALL SCORECARDS.

Lewis was flattened twice… No argument about that… Vitali has a better winning ratio and KO ratio.

Wladimir was beaten before he developed finished skills under Manny Steward… He’s been unbeaten for over 9 years.

Ali was beaten long after he was the finished product… At Wladimir’s age Ali had a lower winning ratio, and was getting hammered by neophytes like Leon Stinks.

Tark…Your last comment is so off base.Okay using the Ali vs Holmes as a fight to judge Ali at that time in his life as how he was as a fighter is beyond crazy.Lets just say then W.K. gets stopped by 2 club fighters Purrity and Sanders..cant even go the distance with club fighters.V.K. gets stopped in 6 by a unfocsed ready to retire LL,and takes 10 rds to beat a guy like Sonowski who Rogan stops in 3.Now really anyone can pull stuff out of the blue and mix things up to fit their agenda.Yes its like saying thank god America has the war on drugs since Regan because without it we would have a real drug problem in America…yeah right,I belive that aswell!!!

Ali fought in an extremely weak era… That’s the size of it…

Getting beaten up by a short, fat, out-of-shape left hooker (Frazier) is no accomplishment.

Getting beaten by a China-Chin, who was flattened by little Jose Garcia, a 188-pound heavyweight with only 12 wins (Norton) is no accomplishment.

Getting beaten by a 197-pound neophyte with 6 wins (Leon Stinks) is no accomplishment.

Larry Holmes was the only full sized heavyweight Ali ever fought who could box and punch — and Ali lost every minute of every round. A new and better era was dawning.

Yukka: Don’t be such an idiot an rely on Boxrec for all your information. Donaire is one of my countrymen from the West Coast, so I know much more about him than you do, trust me.

He was born in the Philippines and moved to California when he was just a little kid. He represented Team USA as an amateur when he won the International Junior Olympics in 1999. He also won three national championships: National Silver Gloves in 1998, National Junior Olympics in 1999 and the National USA Tournament in 2000.

Donaire has lived in the U.S. for the majority of his life, as a citizen, and has NEVER represented the Philippines in boxing. What are you retarded or something? He speaks perfect English with a West Coast accent. He’s a Cali dude and is American to the bone.

Sounds like your getting him mixed-up with Manny Pacquaio… LOL.

To much glory is put on size today, the k-bros are legit big men.But guys like Price who I liked but really got exposed as a useless tree, and say Wach who made Wepner look light on his feet are showing that size can count more in sex then a boxing ring. And yes Puritty did say that and I dont think he had a hidden agenda,I mean who the hell knows about this guy or really cares outside of a handfull of hard core boxing fans. But like I said W.K. got alot better since then comparisons dont always work.Like in my other post V.K. goes 10rds. with Sonowski,Rogan stops him in 3,is Rogan better..ofcourse not.Fury is another giant and I like the kid, hope he can do it I also thinks hes better then people say.But ofcourse Fury is not proven yet as how he will be rembered as the years go by in boxing history.Fury could fall into being just another big unskilled fighter who would have fell in any era.Tark said something about number of fights like Spinks then getting a title shot.Yes that can happen, but not often but then again you can get a guy like Wach who fought nobodies after 25 fights and get a shot overall no diffrance. And a guy like Ringo say who got his title after 10 pro fights. And overall I dont care how many countrys are bringing hvwts. to the ring its not how many but how deep the talent pool is.I could have 500 cheap watches but my one rolex is better.

Squared-Circle Lewis was good but he fought and old Holy and a version of Tyson that was out of shape and on a terriable down hill slide. As I said before Wlad has been knocked out by old men and D level fighters. Vitali has one good name on his resume and old Lewis he lost and almost had his eye knocked out. neither Klit has fought anyone worth a dime except maybe Haye. a lot of it is not there fought sense they came along during a time when not many skilled heavies exist American or not but based on there skills and boxing style 90′s boxers would have beaten the living hell out of the Klits. Ike Ibeabuchi would have beaten both klits on the same night KO Vitali in the first round and KO Wlad in the second.

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street)

This current class of HWs would destroy any class of HWs from the 20s – 90s in a tournament. I’m being 100% honest and objective when I say that. All this talk of “the HW division dead” is absolute B.S. and a weak attempt to downplay the amazing accomplishments of the ATG K-Bros. It’s also a miserable, comical way to excuse that fact that American HWs have been dominated by the Euro Giants since the “Reign of Lewis” in the 90s. Truth is that HW boxing is now bigger than ever all over Europe and other parts of the world. Real talk.

Posted July 12, 2013 2:03 pm

TARK

America IS responding to the challenge… Bryant Jennings, Deontay Wilder, Seth Mitchell, and Joe Hanks are a few American Heavyweights on the upswing, waiting to go to war with the Europeans…

At times in the 70′s and 80′s… Competition was so thin that Leon Spinks, (6 wins) and Marvis Frazier, (10 wins) were getting title shots.

It’s a Hell of a lot better than that!!!

Posted July 12, 2013 1:51 pm

TARK

They love heavyweights in Europe… That’s where the dominant heavyweights are… The biggest gates in European Heavyweight History were the Wladimir-Haye and Vitali-Adamek… Pacquiao-Rios is happening in China… America isn’t the world’s only country, and there are many more boxers from every area of the world than there was 50 years ago..

Ali weighed 201 for his title defense against Cooper… He weighed 203 for his title defense against Mildenberger… They weighed 185 and 194… If you’re going to downgrade Haye on size, downgrade Ali, Frazier, Louis, Johnson, and Marciano … even Liston and Foreman, who were monsters in their day.

Big heavyweights couldn’t get a fight back then … Even Too Tall Jones in the 1980′s who was 6’8″ X 250 for boxing, and had almost no boxing skills, couldn’t get a decent heavyweight to fight him.

Posted July 12, 2013 1:45 pm

tachyon

Tark I gave Haye a B+ I did not give him an A because of size. Your right @ 210 pounds he is the Pacman of Heavies. I say Heavies is the dead era because no one is really all that interested except for die hard boxing fans. All the excitement and money is in the lower weight division for this Era without PBF, Pac, Froch, JMM, Martienz, Ward, Bute, Kessler, and new comers like Triple G boxing would be dead.

Posted July 12, 2013 1:27 pm

TARK

tachyon… You’re slamming the era because you don’t like the K bros.

If you dont think David Haye is a “A” level heavyweight you’re crazy.. He has the best combination of hand speed, foot speed, strength, skill, and athleticism I’ve ever seen in a 210 pound heavyweight.

There were plenty of “inferior” heavyweights who got title shots in every era.. Joe Frazier probably wouldn’t have done that well if he faced other big, tall, strong, solid 6’3″ X 217 heavyweights other than Foreman. He fought a ton of little softies like Terry Daniels and Dave Zygelwitz.

Posted July 12, 2013 1:02 pm

TARK

dwc… I don”t think Puritty said that.. and that would be a comment for public consumption rather than something he believed.. Like Joe Frazier saying Quarry was better than Foreman, or Ali saying the inept Mildenberger was his toughest fight.. You’re going to favor the guy you beat over the guy who kicked your ass for 10 rounds.

I take all that into consideration… Wladimir didn’t have finished skills until several years after he switched his chief trainer to Manny Steward, who added greatly to his game.

Vitali really wasn’t at his best until he took 4 years off to rehab nagging injuries to his legs.

Lewis wasn’t his best until long after he was with Steward for a few years, and he built up his massive size and strength to about 250, like he was for Akinwande, Grant, Tyson, Rahman, Vitali etc…

I think Floyd is at his best right now.. He’s bigger, stronger, faster, and more skilled than he was in his 20′s — and so is Wladimir.

I think Hopkins peaked at about 36 for Trinidad. His stance evolved a long way from his first Roy Jones fight when it still looked awkward at 28.

Toney was a total natural who kept getting worse.. He probably peaked at a very young age — when he beat Michael Nunn, Reggie Johnson, and Mike McCallum in the space of 6 or 7 months he was unbelievable.. He got rich, fat, and lazy but was able to whip most people in his sleep.

Tark I just gave you props on a different post so don’t get all nasty because I disagree with you about the Klits. Neither Klit has a stellar resume true they came along during a time when there is no one to fight and we can only judge a fighter by the caliber of opponents they have fought. when bums or old fighters KTFO you it does not look good on the resume. Vitali is the only Klit who fought a A level heavy that was Lewis vs Vitali and he lost other than that one fight neither Klit has fought anyone near that caliber of talent. so Tark don’t get your nickers in a twist.

TARK Wlad was sick after Purdy kicked his ass. Wlad and Vitali are both lucky to come along during the dark ages of heavy wight boxing. During the 90s both klits would not even have made decent sparring partners.

Puritty said he belived Morrison was the better fighter compared to W.K. being in the ring with both…but did W.K. get better since then, ofcourse. But thats the point I was making time span, prime, out of prime, important fights, not so important fights, styles, training camps, injuries, what part of thier career a fighter is in…all play important roles in a fight. And sometimes you cant lump everything together.Anyway whats your take if GGG moves up and fights Ward..off subject but wondering your take???

Posted July 12, 2013 11:42 am

TARK

dwc…. Wladimir was sick before the Puritty fight. He never weighed within 10 pounds of being so light in any fight after that.. He knew he was too weak but took a chance … He won the first 10 rounds easily and hit an energy wall.. This happened to Sugar Ray Robinson in his Joey Maxim fight. It can happen to anybody because of heat, illness, overtraining, etc.. You run outta gas — the fight if over.

Wladimir won the first 10 rounds easily.. Puritty really beat Morrison, knocked him down, and should have been awarded the fight..

Vitali was beating Lewis on ALL SCORECARDS when the fight was stopped due to cuts.. Lewis easily outboxed Morrison and beat the crap out of him..

Even though you’re the best boxer — or have the best team — you’re still not going to win every single fight if you have 30 World Championship fights.. And you’re not going to win every game in an 82 game season no matter if you’re the best team there ever was in World History.

Yukka: Sorry to disappoint you, but Donaire is an American of Filipino decent. PacMan is a Filipino and it not an American citizen. Big difference!

Historically, it is common for American fighters to take nick-names based on their ethnicity and/or race (e.g., The Filipino Flash).

Sorry… but in actuality the USA has five times the population of the UK, NOT six times.

And after Cleverly loses to Kovalev; Froch loses to Ward; Murray (Interim) loses to 3G or Quillin; and Burns loses to Crawford, Gamboa or Vasquez, the USA will have MORE than five times as many champions as the UK.

Real talk.

Professional sport in the UK is driven by the commercial imperative too, and Australia. Ricky Hatton had trials to be a football player, Curtis woodhouse was a football player, and Anthony Mundine here in AUst was a bl00dy good rugby player.

You can display some talent in one and actually do well taking the attention over to boxing.

In any case I think whatever sport you take, a country that had their best period 15-40 years ago will peg that as some kind of golden age.

How many Americans would like hearing that Djokovic, Federer, Nadal and probably Murray would have whupped the pish out of Agassi and Sampras?
Cos they would.

I agree Tj, I used to be a Haye fan but have found him to be spiteful and Vulgar. Fury is nothing like that and just talks smack.

Posted July 12, 2013 4:19 am

TJ

AT LEAST HAYE NOW knows how it feels to be on the other end of an idiot abusing him, like he did the KLITSCHKOS in disgraceful fashion.

FURY did it with his tongue in his cheek and a twinkle in his eye, so he is not as daft as he may seem on the surface.

Although he does have the DON QUIXOTE and WALTER MITTY type persona, he obviously knows a little about the history of heavyweight boxing and like a chess player he seemd one step ahead of DAVID all the way.

The only thing is can FURY handle the pressure as it gets closer to fight night as HAYE has been there and done it and carries the speed, explosive power and accuracy to knock him into next week?

FURY’S mouth and character will write him more cheques after this contest, but if he gets whacked by Haye it may be a while before he can capitalise.

History tells us that ADAM BOOTH and David Haye will be working on a way to both neutralise the Fury and make him pay big time for embarrrasing them on national TV.

I see Fury as a big guy, but with no overall or outstanding weapons or skills that distinguishes him from the poack except a massive heart and the fighting spirit of a traveller which can go a long way….

i am just going to enjoy all the press conferences and head-to-heads and watch the fight on a delayed basis as I won’t be paying for it!

I haven’t PPV’d any HAYE fight as they have all been foregone conclusions (WIN or LOSE)!

Posted July 12, 2013 1:48 am

I don`t buy this whole “athletes go into other sports” argument.

Plenty of other countries have more professional sports teams per person in the country than the USA and still produce heavyweights.

There’s what 30-32 NBA teams and the same for NFL in a country of 300 million?

UK population 60 million has maybe 130-150 professional football, union and rugby league teams alone.

Posted July 12, 2013 1:19 am

tachyon

Haye is a good heavy and would give anyone trouble. Regardless of what you say he did go 12 rounds with Wlad who was covering up and praying his jab cold keep Haye back so he was no better. As for America heavies we ruled in the heavies until the best Athletes starting going to football, basketball, etc boxing lost its luster in the USA. The EU boxers are no where near as talented as what the USA has had in the past or in the 90′s.
Heavy division is dead and has been that way for the last 15yrs. The best of a golden age faded out with Holyfield and Lewis all we have been left with is C level fighters beating up on D level fighters. Why do you think the Klits make maybe 5 million per fight while PBF, Pac, and others make 30 million+ per fight. NO one cares about the heavy division it has become a novelty weight class. You want true boxing lower weight classes are where the true talent resides.

Posted July 12, 2013 1:08 am

Mongrel

or maybe the yank heavyweights over the last 10 years have been at the same talent level as always, but others have got better, and the Klitschkos have beaten them down before they make a big name for themselves.

If Holyfield or should that be Evan Fields, or Bowe came along noaways, they`d get one notable win before being thrown in with a Klitschko and getting a career shortening beating – after which they`d be described as a bum.

Right…. Like Price ever bragged about anything… Khan was so hyper silent that Deontay Wilder lit up his press conference for the Julio Diaz fight like a Christmas tree..

“BOMB SQUAD” Deontay and Harrison were the only ones with personality.

Meanwhile Khan was like, “I want to thank everybody for this promotion, including yada yada yada yada yada and yada… I’m looking forward to this fight… Diaz is a very tough competitor and he’s coming to fight… I’m in good shape and you’ll see me at my best for this fight.” ZZZZzzzzzzzzz….

THE REAL AMERICAN OAK

The only reason British HWs are getting any press is 1. The USA has crap for heavyweights. 2. Everyone is over the dominance of the Klitch’s. 3. They have the biggest mouths anyone has ever heard. Good Lord between Froch, Haye, Fury, Price and Kahn I don’t know which of these British babies have the biggest jaws. It’s like a bunch of hens bragging about the biggest egg but thhey all got screwed by the same rooster. HWs are in a sad state. UK’s are the worst. And British fighters are just a bunch of whiners.

Brit box don’t get angry its not my fault Fury has not looked good even in his wins against subpar opponents. Fury problem is he has no power and for a heavy weight that is critical. Haye has all the tools and power with that said Fury will get his ass kicked and then KTFO. IF Fury had sense he should have stayed away from Haye and picked someone like MATTEO MODUGNO who has a 3 and 13 record more to Fury’s skill level.

Fury has talent all right… I think that’s who you meant… He’s 6’9″ X 250lbs… He’s quick, he can move well, punch hard, take a punch, and fight.

He’s a fair boxer as the Johnson fight bore out.. That was a whitewash.. But his boxing skills are like Gerry Cooney’s going against Larry Holmes.. At least that’s the way Haye describes the beating Fury is going to get, “You’re going to get the worst beating since Holmes destroyed Cooney.”… It’s always good to have an objective model in mind.

How can anyone think Haye has any talent? I first heard about him when he was known as the boxer who hit himself with an uppercut and saw it for real on Youtube. Then I saw a picture of him as a tall newbie kid at the K-bros gym with a picture of him, Emmanuel steward, Andy Lee, and Wladimir. Then a few years later, he’s British biggest boxing idol . Is he even a Brit? If Cunningham had any stamina, he would have finished this big lug off after the first knock down. Then trhe big lug grabs, leans and hold for his dear life. And the way he grabbed and having said he could beat the UFC HW champion in a cage, I seriously doubt it with his poor foot balance and lack of hugging skills. I can’t believe it but I’m rooting for Haye to KO this big lug and have Britain find another staute to worship.

Booth…, “Their styles will gel for one explosive fight, a British version of Hagler-Hearns,”

That will NOT happen… Neither has Hearn’s glass chin—but Haye is NOT going to trade punches with a man 40lbs heavier. You won’t see kamikaze exchanges sought by Haye… Hearns made a seriously stupid miscalculation … trying to put the bigger and tougher Hagler out.

Haye…, “If it goes 6 rounds—you’ll take the worst beating since Larry Holmes destroyed Gerry Cooney.”

This remark gives us a clue to Haye’s thinking… Holmes dropped Cooney early with a hard right—but Larry didn’t try for the KO. Holmes endured a lot of flagrantly foul blows—but he still gave Cooney the promised multi-round beating … before going for the finish.

Four (4) things are different that Haye needs to think about.

1. Haye is giving up 40 pounds and 6 inches of height—Holmes gave up 12 pounds and 3 inches of height—not so serious.
2. Fury has a strong chin—Cooney had a vulnerable chin.
3. Fury can move quickly on his feet—Cooney had awkward footwork, especially on the retreat…
4. Fury is a strong infighter. He can go to plan B and brawl—Cooney’s inexperience was slightly more apparent … especially on the inside.

This will NOT be as easy for Haye as it was for Holmes.

That’s 10,000 people who get to watch Fury get his lights put out. Better reinforce that ring canvas or Fury and his fat unfit body might just fall right through it. TIIIMMMBBEEEEEEERRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope they show this fight over here, I would pay the $60 PPV, all our heavyweights are rubbish.

Shows just how many people want to see Fury knocked out….I mean Haye knocked out…I mean Fury knocking himself out…I mean…screw it, who knows.

It’s a good fight on paper and likely good fight to be seen. Nothing wrong with watching it.
