Not only did Floyd received a lot of punches at 154 with the Cripple 50% of the fighter Cotto used to be but Floyd ran out of gas/stamina too, believed me Canelo is gonna be too much for the 36 year old Cherrypicking EXPERIENCE Floyd.Posted July 16, 2013 2:46 pm
@Titopa…., “Canelo’s been matched with men who’ve simply been too small to match Canelo in terms of power….they were also “fighters”, not “boxers” … LOL
How about taller, undefeated, 171-pound, slick boxing southpaw World Champion Austin Trout??? Canelo landed better and harder punches.. Which impressed all 3 judges unanimously.. Impressed the ringside reporters and all the American commentators..
You claim the judges had their scorecards filled out ahead of time… Including that 2-point round in the 7th??? What happened is this. Canelo outboxed Trout, who is bigger, taller, stronger, younger, and rangier than Floyd.Posted July 16, 2013 1:47 am
This pundit says…, “If the judges are impressed with Canelo’s middleweight-like power, they might do exactly what they did last April and give him most of the rounds despite the fact that he’s getting out-landed.”
Canelo has to win decisively.. He has to be obviously better.
This fight might be Larry Holmes vs Tim Witherspoon… Witherspoon was not expected to do well.. He didn’t have any kind of a reputation.. He never fought one good fighter in his 15 previous fights.. He landed one Hell of a lot of good punches on Larry Holmes … in a life of death battle. But he was Mr. Nobody vs Larry Holmes.
Martin Murray didn’t fight nearly as hard vs Sergio Martinez.. He landed fewer but more damaging punches and knocked Sergio down twice.. In England, with a neutral referee, he would have won.
It helps a little to be the Super Star… You can ask Ken Norton about that.Posted July 16, 2013 1:34 am
Hecdog – You make good points. But like you said, can he do that in a REAL fight?? We’re not so sure. He’s been matched carefully thus far, he’s been matched with men who’ve simply been too small to match Canelo in terms of power….they were also “fighters”, not “boxers”, which is why Canelo was able to land his shots, they were willing to fight. In this fight, he’s facing a masterful boxer who will NOT ‘fight’ him, he’s going to stick and move, When has Canelo faced a man who’s as fast and as slick as Floyd?? NEVER!!! He’s not going to be able hit Floyd flush, that’s going to be the difference, how will Canelo react when his punches aren’t landing? He’s so accustomed to having these little guys stand in front of him. NOT this case in this fight.Posted July 15, 2013 6:34 pm

Titopa, I still think Mayweather will win, but after watching Canelo train, he has the potential to pull of the upset. Canelo has a lot of speed and he can put his punches together great in sparring, but the question still remains, can he do it in the actual fight. If he can, he has a great chance to pull it off. Like most boxers, he looks like a million dollars in training, and he is very confident, but can he do it in the fight. He really needs to throw a lot more punches than he does. He likes to counter and has an excellent jab. Question is can he get the correct timing and distance to land his punches on a guy that is going to hit, hold, hug and run. If Canelo can get Mayweather to post up against the ropes like he does often in all his fights as he shows off the shoulder roll defense, I’m telling you right now, Canelo is going to put some hurt on Mayweather’s body, arms and head if he can hit it. Canelo can punch.Posted July 15, 2013 5:24 pm

The Mad Scientist – Yeah. I’m not ashamed to admit that I picked Donaire, I didn’t think Rigo had the “pro” experience to deal with Donaire, but I was wrong, those 300+ am. fights came into play when I didn’t think they would, and he did GREAT!! But in this case, Canelo has ZERO am. experience to back him up, which is why I’m picking Floyd to thoroughly school him, the experience factor is FAR too great IMO. But this is why they fight the fights, and yes, ANYTHING can happen. You want to engage in a little name change bet?? c’mon! BET?? Or leave me and my prediction alone.Posted July 15, 2013 3:51 pm

Titopa -to answer mono45 question for ya, how did you reacted when Rigo schooled one of your personal favorites in Donaire..??, people are gonna find out that the stamina, chin and experience will not play a roll for Canelo..if Alvarez loses (gets schooled) is because Mayweather is just that good plain and simple but I don’t see that happening..I’m convinced that this kid will do a little bit of everything inside the ring against Mayweather to see what works for him..weather anything Canelo tries work for him remains to be seen but I know he’ll be bringing his mexican pride into the ring that night to try and score himself the biggest win of his career thus far at all cost,,watch!Posted July 15, 2013 2:43 pm

floyd will win any wager?Posted July 15, 2013 9:03 am
IF FLOYD LOSES to SAUL, I can only see him fighting a rematch and possibly a third RUBBER MATCH if the rematch is close….
I would then see Floyd retiring…. It is all about remaining unbeaten — if he loses he will lose most of his marketabilityand selling points as the average fan only wants t oassociate with a winner….
They don’t know any better!
If I were floyd and lost to Saul I would rematch and then retire as soon as I could after.
Remember, this is the hurt business, so no point hanging around with no zero to protect…. Just look at JOE CALZAGHE…. He’s been retired 4 or 5 years, protecting his 0 and rightfully so!
These guys are the clever guys in boxing… They make millions, without getting bashed and retain their cerebral functions so they can actually enjoy the fruits of their endeavours and play with their children into old age and not try to remember hpw to put their socks on, nursing the onset of PUGILISTIC DEMENTIA, parkinsons syndrome and other related ailments.
I’ve always said and will keep on saying none of us pay their medical bills or look after them when they require our help as they nurse themselves through boxing related illnesses/ ailments – so why should they kill themselves fighting if they can get the W without themselves geting hurt?????Posted July 15, 2013 7:46 am

I’m not complaining about weight. I simply said this is the biggest fighter Floyd has ever foughtPosted July 15, 2013 1:33 am
Trout was actually trying to put power in his punches. No he is not a power puncher but he was committing and Canelo played a lot of defense. Paulie was throwing nothing but arm punches. He normal lay commits to some of his punches but he didn’t and that’s what the difference wasPosted July 15, 2013 1:31 am
Forget about the Trout fight please and stop complaining about weight.Posted July 15, 2013 1:27 am
Bronner won the fight plain and simple What base on who we like. People complain and complain about Canelo vs Trout, but is the same case. Trout was throwing jabs, but Canelo was landing all the big shots, then case close.Posted July 15, 2013 1:23 am
Broner won hiS last fight because he won. Plain and simple. Paulie was throwing weak arm punches and didn’t look like he was trying to commit to any of his punches. That will always cost yaPosted July 15, 2013 1:08 am
Problem with Canelo knocking guys down is for the most part except his last fight he has only fought 140 and 147 pound fighters. And none of them had defense like Floyd. Canelo is gonna have some major issues this fightPosted July 15, 2013 1:07 am
This is why Bronner won his last fight. Showtime is running boxing.Posted July 15, 2013 12:45 am
Mayweather is 75% likely to loose this fight in a controversial fashion, then we get a rematch were Mayweather gets a close decision, the we go to the last fight where Mayweather gets beat, and goes, and fight two more fights. This has been plan by Showtime since they signed Canelo and Maywether there is no profit in letting Mayweather win…Posted July 15, 2013 12:43 am
Whoever compares Canelo with Ortiz has a boxing IQ of less than 50 percentile. Canelo has the talent, boxing skills, and following for Showtime to let FMJ to get his first lost. Let’s be honest the boxing game is run by Showtime and HBO. He signed a 6 fight deal. Ok, here is the first of three that is going to make Showtime and Golden Boy promotions more revenue than we can imagine. The game is about making $$, and Mayweather already got paid and now is about to become a $$ COW for Showtime.Posted July 15, 2013 12:37 am
Canelo has power but he cannot stand technical fighters. even Matthew Hatton gave Canelo some decent opposition. Fact is, Canelo fights in spurts; he has no stamina. Thus, Floyd Mayweather will give him hell, especially in the latter rounds. I see Floyd Mayweather soundly humiliating Canelo.Posted July 15, 2013 12:23 am
Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street)
Canelo is a much better fighter than Ortiz. But that’s like comparing apples and oranges. He’s also much better than Guerrero. This will be the toughest fight of FMJ’s career — except of maybe his first fight with Castillo.
I’m not yet ready to make my final predictions, but I will say this:
Yeah lets make this story all about SC Lion Kinky. Try staying on topic nutsack, haven’t you had enough verbal beatings on this site. Sucker for punishment. If you found the anonymous that continually beats you down what would you do, hotshot? Get on your knees and pray for a quick ending to the inevitable beating that you would receive.Posted July 15, 2013 12:08 am
Yeah but Canelo is a better fighter than Ortiz. Plus he is heavier than anybody Floyd has ever foughtPosted July 14, 2013 11:49 pm
a lot of the things being said about Canelo were the same things being said about Victor Ortiz before his bout with Floyd. he is younger, he is stronger bla bla bla. Canelo is no more ready for Floyd then Victor was IMO.Posted July 14, 2013 11:38 pm
That’s because the only good Russian y’all had was Drago. If Floyd was from Russia he would have a few L’s on his recordPosted July 14, 2013 10:59 pm

Floyd is no FOOL. He’s been preparing for this Fight all along. In his last training camp he sparred vs. 170 lbers…. As I predicted, he brought back his Dad specifically for THIS Fight. He’s going to put on a Baldomir type CLINIC. Beat the guy SO lopsidedly that people get UP and walk OUT….like the Miami Heat Fans DID in game 6 when they thought they were SPANKED.Posted July 14, 2013 5:21 pm
Canelo would need to fight a Floyd’s who’s defense has diminished and that hasn’t happened. I don’t get all this Canelo is too green. He has 40 something fights. No he has no amateur background but has been fighting a pro style since he was 15. That is pretty damn good considering other fighters like James Toney started fighting at 18 and look what he accomplished. This is the time for Canelo. If he hasn’t learned it yet he probably will never learn itPosted July 14, 2013 4:32 pm

If they was this and if there was that. We have been looking for another heavyweight since Tyson. We are still gonna be waiting because there is nothing on the horizon. The heavyweight scene in America is not great. So we look at the lighter classes. And Floyd is it whether you like it or not. He is The OnePosted July 14, 2013 4:02 pm
Yes, Mayweather should not overlook him, not at all. And God bless Trayvon Martin.Posted July 14, 2013 3:44 pm
If there was some 19/20 Year Old Heavyweight Phenom very similar to Mike Tyson (of the 80’s) fighting right now, would Floyd and the rest be taking a backseat to such a fighter? I think so.
I wonder how Floyd, Leonard Ellerbe, and there rest of the Mayweather Clan would handle a Young Phenom HW taking over. Breaking Records, getting the spotlight, and being truly World Famous. I’m talking about Ali and Tyson famous.
I like Floyd, I like his skills, appreciate what he is doing as a businessman as well to promote his “brand” of skills, but Goddamn; it’s time for fresh blood in boxing and hopefully it is in the HW division most of all because that’s where Kings Reign.
I Appreciate the Class of Wlad in and outside the ring. He is a Great Champion. But Boxing needs its true “THE ONE” back in the picture…THE HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION who brings excitement like no other.
Now if somehow this Young Phenom HW, who fights aggressive like a young Dempsey and Tyson with incredible skills could be very similar to the Klitschkos as far as “Class,” that would be awesome.Posted July 14, 2013 3:33 pm
Problem with Canelo will be his work rate and stamina. He has to fight more that a minute a round. Problem is he seems to doubt his stamina and will not work for more than a minute. Floyd has fought plenty of strong powerful punchers. Problem is they don’t land very many if any against him and rarely has Floyd ever but hit with more than 1 punch of a combo. And if Floyd keeps stepping left or right of Canelo this will also cause a large amount of problems. This will be the biggest fighter Floyd has ever fought though.Posted July 14, 2013 3:30 pm
I’ve recently watched some of Canelo’s training, and I’m impressed by his power, speed and calmness. I have previously said that Mayweather is going to pick him apart, but I’m slowly going the other way. Canelo is much stronger and is faster than what people think. He is a little too robotic and doesn’t throw enough punches per round, but he is sharp. His jab is fast and powerful, but he rarely throws anything off of it. If Floyd stays in a stationery position, he’s going to take some heavy artillery because Canelo is heavy handed, and if you let him throw at you, he’s got some pop. I highly suggest Floyd doesn’t go against the ropes. Canelo IMO has to apply a lot of pressure and take some shots from Floyd, but he is the younger, stronger and more hungry fighter at this stage. He can’t sit there and go counter for counter. He must make his punches count and make Floyd fight. Stay on him and work that body, arms and head. I still give the edge to Floyd, but Canelo can win this fight if he can answer all the questions. Can he handle the pressure? Can he make adjustments? Can he transfer everything he does in sparring into the actual fight? Can he handle adversity? He has more questions to answer, but right now, I think he’s got a better than good chance to pull this off.Posted July 14, 2013 3:25 pm
Throwing a hard punch once in a while will not win the fight for Alvarez this time because the fight won’t be in Texas. Also, Mayweather is faster than Trout so if Alvarez waits, Mayweather will tag him repeatedly. No open scoring to help Alvarez this time either. He was lucky to get the decision against trout but that won’t happen this time.Posted July 14, 2013 3:21 pm
