“Winning a title is all fine and dandy but winning a title isn’t the hardest thing to do in boxing. Winning a championship is and that is special. That is much harder to do”

Peej, Breland was the WBA World Welterweight Champ.

“And like I have said many times I can name great amatuers that did not turn out to be great pros. Mark Breland comes to mind. ” Oh, I don’t know about that Peej. Breland won a world welterweight title in 1989 when he beat Lee then successfully defended his title four times before losing by KO to Davis. In fact, the only way anyone could beat Breland in his three losses was to stop him. Nobody ever beat him by a Decision as a pro. But that was a beautiful short right thrown by Davis–lightning fast and spot on. Even though Breland had been picking him to pieces in the 9th round, Davis landed the punch that counted.

Vanes fights for Top Rank & Bob Arum. Even if he scores a 1st round KO where his punch catapults Andrade into the 20th row, he STILL isn’t getting the winner of Mayweather-Canelo. He has very few victories over notable opponents and his fight vs. Lara was un-watchable. Vanes Martiroysan makes me wish I had 10 thumbs……………..so I could give him 10 thumbs down. He’s a wannabe champion hoping to land a big payday will fighting fringe contenders. Maybe he’ll win this vacant belt and be a “world champion”, but let’s not fool ourselves. He never be anything more than a beltholder. Next!

Mevermind Canelo Matweather! This guy should see if he can get by Spinks or Bunderage first! Hey Vannes you gotta give up your first job selling used cars first, its taking awat boxing time!

More often than not, a great professional career depends upon a great amateur back ground. can one just imagine if Marciano had more of a amateur background?

Posted July 17, 2013 12:26 am

Fritz

Yeah Ward always thanked god for his fifteen year winning streak and thats how we figured he’s win the Super six. Hmm..Btw Ward’s amateur record is very similar to
Martirosyan’s

Posted July 17, 2013 12:12 am

PEEJ

That is all they really say about Ward, is that he hasn’t lost in 15 years and won a gold. But the boxers themselves don’t talk about it. And like I have said many times I can name great amatuers that did not turn out to be great pros. Mark Breland comes to mind. Even some of the cubans that had great amateur careers didn’t pan out.

Posted July 17, 2013 12:06 am

Fritz

Yeah the amateur records are usually mentioned on HBO and Showtime with the likes of Andre Ward, Golovkin, Rigonoux, etc.. Heck, Andre Ward aint lost a fight in like 15 year.

Posted July 16, 2013 11:08 pm

PEEJ

Haven’t really heard a pro boast of his amateur record unless they talk about winning a gold medal.

Posted July 16, 2013 10:42 pm

Fritz

Nah most great boxers were great amateurs and that is why the pros always boast of their amateur records.

ERECTAMUNDO

Funny that the writer thinks ” Martirosyan is all wrong for Canelo ” ….. lets see….. oh yea, they said the same about Trout, that he was too slick that he was going to box him, that he was going to tear Canelo apart etc etc…. then this guy wrote ” Canelo looked bad against Trout ” …. I honest laughed at this garbage. Actually Canelo showed improvement against a guy that was suppose to clearly beat him. If Canelo looked bad then Trout looked worst because he was very ineffective against Canelo.

Well, Vanes must be looking at the potential money because either Canelo or Mayweather will beat him. Soundly. Martirosyan became more and more vulnerable to Lara as that short fight wore on and had it continued, I think Lara might have stopped Vanes–Martirosyan got “saved” when he was cut by a headbutt causing the fight to be stopped. But so what. Mayweather will be moving back to welterweight for his next fight after Alvarez. Just don’t know who he’ll fight yet. Even so, if he ever fought Martirosyan, the only advantage Martirosyan would have over him is four inches in height. But it would be a useless advantage as Mayweather only has slightly less reach, and immeasureable more boxing skills.

He may still be in jail after a domestic abuse charge here in austin. It is clear he does not want to be a professional boxer. He wants to be a thug

Who cares he had he’s chance to prove to the world the he’s a elite fighter when he fought lara but he blew it. Angulo and kirkland will destroy him . Hes a b class fighter at best. What ever happened to kirkland?

Who cares about the amateurs. I can name a few people who where great amateurs but weren’t to good in the pros. That’s in any sport. Talk about his pro career not his amateur career. And in his pro career he turns down fights so he can keep his rating.

Fritz – That doesn’t mean NOTHING. Kelson Pinto beat Miguel Cotto TWICE in the ams, but got demolished in the pros. Nuff said.

FEARS

Tyrone Jones-I just watched that sparring session. I’m not a Vanes fan, but he was giving Jr. the business in that session! I’ve never seen him look that good in any of his fights. Now I see why Roach always speaks so highly of Vanes, it’s because he get’s to see him during the sparring sessions, but he doesn’t fight like that on fight nights.

Fritz – Amateur victories don’t count. Pro prizefighting is much more difficult.

Posted July 16, 2013 12:11 pm

..and I see that Martirosyan also outboxed Berto and Bradley and fought to a draw against Lara who is tougher than anyone Canelo has faced. Seems everybody is skeered of this guy

Posted July 16, 2013 11:59 am

Fritz

Martirosyan outboxed Trout three times in the amateurs and also has a stronger punch and chin.

This guy hasn’t done sh** to even contemplate much less call out Floyd or Canelo. This guy runs his mouth and has nothing to show for it except a draw, that should have been a loss, and a You Tube sparring session with Chavez Jr., yeah….I don’t think so chump

Funny how Trout only has 1 loss and that’s to Canelo.

Hmm…Flomos hate on Martirosyan and hype up Canelo but Martirosyan whooped Austin Trout three times. Now watch him wear down the much bigger Chavez Jr . on youtube atGknxSGUzA

SO do I. Thats minimum of a $2 million payday. Sign me UP.

Posted July 16, 2013 5:11 am

FEARS

Martiroysan has been overhyped his whole career without doing anything to deserve the hype. While everyone else is fighting there way up the ranks, he just hangs out in the background and calls other people out. I’m totally sick of his big mouth crying about the credit and fights only he and Roach thinks he deserves. Lara is the only fighter worth a damn that he has fought and he lost that in my eyes. He needs to beat at least one top 10 opponent before he expects any big money fights. I would like to see him take on Kirkland, Trout, Cotto or rematch Lara.

Posted July 16, 2013 2:17 am

maracho

Yeah Martirosyan beats both if given the chance.

EBU champion Sergio Rabchenko deserves the next crack @ the winner here “END OF”! Britain’s Brian Rose is also in the equation.

PEEJ

This guy should fight more often. He has had plenty of opportunities to fight but he only sits on his rankings and does not get the fights. This all lies on him. And if I am not mistaken doesn’t Lara get first crack? Floyd is moving back to 147 after this fight.

Mayweather could end up with with just $50 million then, should of read the contract.

I want the Mayweather-Canelo winner (and the paycheck that comes with it), too. Vanes has about as much of a chance at the winner as I do. Maybe Vanes can put this in his letter to Santa Claus later in the year…

No, FMJ has not “already been paid” with the 6 fight contract. The remaining fights and purse percentages have not yet been negotiated and finalized. The numbers and profits margins are still unknown variables.

You’re basically implying that Team FMJ is at the mercy of Showtime and has no control over who they’re going to fight. But we all know that’s far from true. The money has to be big enough for Showtime, Team FMJ and their promoters.

hookoffthejab

Yeah Rematch Lara and or call out Trout Cotto Smith ..Then talk about Canelo or Junior …..

Posted July 15, 2013 6:59 pm

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street)

The only “Name” that Vanes has ever fought is Lara, and he couldn’t win that fight. Clearly he’s just talkin’ trash to keep his name in the mix with the hopes of landing a big $$$ fight with either FMJ or Canelo.

FMJ would never fight a six-foot-tall, rangy Jr. MW like Vanes in 100 years. Plus the money just isn’t big enough for Floyd.

Canelo might fight Vanes sooner or later, but Team Alvarez will be calling the shots in that negotiation. Vanes will have to take a much smaller piece of the pie to get that deal.

IMO, the priority for Vanes should be to rematch Lara, because that was scored a Draw. Lara should want it as well, but it won’t attract many fans (outside of ESB and other hardcore boxing communities) or make much money. They BOTH are dying to get a match with the winner of the Mega Fight for obvious reasons.
