Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street)

Going to a movie theater with stadium seating and watching all these great fight for $20 is a REAL steal. F paying the $75 — unless you’re at a fight party with a few dudes kickin’ down some bones.

“Nope. They’re going to have Trout vs. Lara AND Matthysse vs Garcia along with Floyd vs Canelo. SO $75 is a STEAL.” Now, that I agree with. If I was going to see the fight live.

I’ll bet the farm on Lara

If Trout v Lara is taking the place of Garcia v Matthysse then thats whack!

“By the WAY I’ll take Lara over Trout.” Good luck with that.

Yeah Kirkland got real angry when even Ann Wolf told Molina that he had won the fight. Who knows what would of happened if the fight were to continue but Molina was obviously winning just before being oscarcized by the ref

CORRECTAMUNDO

By the WAY I’ll take Lara over Trout.

Posted July 17, 2013 8:11 pm

CORRECTAMUNDO

Molina was beating Kirkland but IF I remember CORRECTLY (which I usually DO) Kirkland was coming on strong. Kirkland MAY have been able to pull off a late stoppage IF the Fight was allowed to continue….or Molina could have weathered the storm….We’ll never know because the NON righteous Ref stopped the Fight right when it was getting JUICY….I had the feeling that Molina would have pulled it off though. He’s the BETTER Fighter

Posted July 17, 2013 8:04 pm

PEEJ

Molina didn’t beat Kirkland. It looked to me he was on his way to be KO’d. Not to mention he should of been deducted points from all the holding he was doing. That was ridiculous.

Posted July 17, 2013 7:56 pm

Cotto and Ishe Smith have also pulled out against Molina. All Golden Boy fighters btw

Yeah Molina actually beat both Lara and Kirkland.

Posted July 17, 2013 7:14 pm

Yeah Molina was ripped off against both Lara and Kirkland. And more recently, Cotto and Ishe Smith have pulled out of fights against Molina.

Nah Canelo is way more overrated than Williams, Lara, and Martinez

Top Rank really needs to step their game up. I mean really. If this news is true, this will blow the roof off ppy sales. Get it together Top Rank

Yes I am talking in past tense. I don’t wish nothing bad on anybody and what happened to Williams is heartbreaking. But I’m talking about boxing. And in boxing he was overrated. I’m not talking about character or anything like that. From what I have seen or heard about him out side the ring he was and is a class act, and the attitude he has had after the accident is amazing. But I still think he was overrated and I have always said that

Posted July 17, 2013 2:35 pm

Hidalgo

“Sorry but Williams is overrated.” Hey Peej. Not to be a picky-unis, but you guys need to be talking in past-tense about Paul Williams. After all, he is paralyzed and out of the game forever.

Posted July 17, 2013 12:56 pm

Tomato Can

If this is true, every PPV, you be like this. It would really be a win-win situation for both fans and the sport. That way, undercard fighters could get more publicity and maybe headline thier own PPV, with addional meaningful undercard fights… I hope it happens.

“Trout … he did look a bit bedeviled, depleted, and impotent himself v. Canelo.”

This is true te tumbo, but as Trout said after the fight, Canelo “surprised” him. Clearly Trout was expecting a different version of Canelo than the one he fought and Trout didn’t train for that unexpected version. I think Canelo’s ability to do this–to show such flexibility in fighting his opponents–will be of great advantage to him in his fight with Mayweather. If we get lucky, maybe we’ll see something special when he does fight Floyd.

But I also favor Trout over Lara, mainly because Lara takes so long to get going, especially when he’s pressured and being consistently hit with power punches. Still, I think Lara’s too slick to get KO’d by Trout so that’s why I’m going with Trout by Decision. I hope this fight gets made because it will reveal a lot about both of these boxers.

Posted July 17, 2013 12:52 pm

FEARS

Great undercard and a very meaningful fight which is winnable for both combatants. I think Lara wins this, but it should be a helluva strategic battle. It seems that most people only like “bang-bang fights” but I love to see the implementation of the Sweet Science by both fighters and that’s what I’m looking forward to in this fight.

Posted July 17, 2013 11:55 am

PEEJ

No not really. He is overrated. Martinez is not the great either. He doesn’t fight the best in his division and has felled too since winning the Championship. He calls out smaller fighters. Sorry but Williams is overrated. And I’m not big on Lara so I can care less how many punches he landed against him

Posted July 17, 2013 11:51 am

Fritz

Paul Williams landed 300 punches against Sergio Martinez but Martinez only landed 254.
Paul Williams landed 200 punches against Lara while Lara landed 224.
Paul Williams was ducked by Mayweather.
Thus, calling Williams severely overrated is Flomo loco

Posted July 17, 2013 8:03 am

terror tim

Lara is a very good boxer who has been in with some good fighters. He beat Williams which is his only lost. Molina is a tough fight for anyone and very underrated himself. This is a great fight for the under card which I most tip my hat off too.

Posted July 17, 2013 4:00 am

PEEJ

Yeah Williams was definitely overrated. Oh I give Rosado credit he has big balls. I won’t take that from him. We just have a difference of opinion who won thats all.

Posted July 17, 2013 12:04 am

Fritz

Williams overrated? Ta loco and Molina is robbed and way underrated.

Posted July 16, 2013 11:38 pm

te tumbo

i’ve been consistently underwhelmed by Lara. he was completely bedeviled by Molina and seemed content with gambling on his popularity to avoid losing that bout. the only fight he did impress me with was v. Williams who was severely overrated himself. Lara was on his way to being defeated by a plodding, sluggish, and depleted Angulo whose seen better days. yet it was this depleted version of Angulo that threatened to defeat Lara(?!). if Trout is ANY good, he should be able to impose his will on a less-than-fierce Lara. IMO, Lara has a pain threshold that Trout can exceed. Trout by KO IF he’s ANY good. he did look a bit bedeviled, depleted, and impotent himself v. Canelo.

Posted July 16, 2013 11:29 pm

I didn’t think he got screwed against Love. I felt Love won the fight though he came up dirty for a weight loss drug. Plus didn’t he have a title shot against GGG? He could if went back to 154 but he wants to stay at 160

Not to big on Lara. I thought he was on his way to being stopped by Angulo. But before that I was still not big on him. Just not my cup of tea.

That would be a good one! I’m a fan of trout he’s talented, took a loss like a man, also a fan of erislanda so should be a good one

Lara is better than Trout.

the winner of Garcia/Matthysse will gladly fight Floyd, that’s a winning lottery ticket.

Posted July 16, 2013 8:28 pm

TARK

It’s a very tough fight for Lara… But a tougher one for Trout.

If Trout could pull a victory out, he’s the real deal… I think he should grab the fight.. Lara is the other major competitor in the division, other than Saul.

Posted July 16, 2013 8:24 pm

“Because it would set up another mega fight: Winner vs Floyd!” Maybe, Supreme Court, but Matthysee nor Garcia have been fighting as a welterweight. As I said in a couple of other threads, why should either one of these guys have to move up to welterweight and fight Floyd to prove themselves? Or to prove anything for that matter? Matthysse and Garcia are two top-notch, exciting-to-watch jr. welterweights. Actually, I hope Matthysse sticks around long enough to clean-out the jr. middleweight division. I wanna see Broner lock horns with him–if Broner has the balls.

Fight Aficionado

First we have dudes saying Matthysse-Garcia is on the undercard now it’s Trout-Lara. Neither are confirmed by GBP. This does sound more likely though. Not as much money to pay the fighters and less chance their fight will steal the thunder of the main event.

Hecdog

Lara beats Trout. No doubt about it.

Posted July 16, 2013 6:51 pm

PEEJ

I read the other day that it was going to be on the undercard. But haven’t heard anything final about that. Trout vs Lara is a good fight but both are counter punchers

Posted July 16, 2013 6:44 pm

Hidalgo

” What happened to the proposed matchup between Garcia and Matthysse on the undercard. ” Garcia/Matthysse should be a main event. Both for the level and caliber that the fight will be and also for the revenues it will generate. I certainly won’t be disappointed if it’s not an undercard fight on the Mayweather/Alvarez card. Besides, why should Garcia–or Matthysse for that matter–play second fiddle to anyone? Regardless, I give Danny about eight rounds before Lucas catches him good and things start to go downhill from there.. From then on Lucas will be bringing the heat. I expect a TKO by Matthysse in the 11th round, possibly the 12th.

If Trout/Lara happens it will be a great fight. I give Trout a slight edge in this fight. I think he total boxing package: skills, power, speed, ring smarts are better than Lara’s. Lara also tends to be overly-cautious and much less effective in the earlier rounds, whereas Trout is always ready to deliver from the opening bell. Make the fight!

Posted July 16, 2013 6:33 pm

ERECTAMUNDO

Now thats worth paying for!

YEAH BOY!!!! this undercard alone is worth paying for!

Posted July 16, 2013 6:04 pm

I view Lara as undefeated… He beat Martirosayan and Molina — and beat Paul Williams by a mile… That was one of the most flagrant robberies I’ve ever seen in a boxing ring.

Lara has faced a lot of southpaws and is very comfortable with the style. He definitely has the edge but I expect Trout to leave it all in the ring… He doesn’t want to be yesterday’s news. I make Lara a 9-5 favorite.

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street)

That would be a great match-up for the under card! Stack that on top of the Garcia vs. Matthysse fight and I just might cough-up the $65. This would be the first time that I’ve bought PPV in many years.

Posted July 16, 2013 5:32 pm

If it is true, definitely I wil buy this PPV.

yea thats very exciting. What happened to the proposed matchup between Garcia and Matthysse on the undercard. Maybe they dont want to overshadow the mismatched sparring session billed as the main event.
