SREDMONDIf Martinez is in shape which he ALWAYS seems to be its going to be a hard night for Chavez, this kid is willing to take ALOT of shots but that can tell over the course of a 12 round bout…. Martinez is going to be faster than anyone he has faced and will have ample opportunity to land his shots in succession…. To his credit Chavez is a tough fighter who genuinely comes to do damage so the older Martinez will have to avoid taking too many of those bodyshots himself… Interesting bout to say the least Posted September 12, 2012 6:18 amJayDubbhahahahaha Right! Excuses, excuses, Chavez is going NITE NITE! BUM!!! Posted September 12, 2012 2:24 amStudentOfTheGameWhat will jr & his fans excuses be?I can already see it lol. Posted September 12, 2012 1:19 amsal.oMartinez has good power but! not one punch knock out power,,Paul Williams was a shot fighter when he fought Martinez the second time,in their first fight Williams took to much punishment he was not the same fighter in their second fight..Martinez knocked him out due too a barrage of punches and then a well time left hand,, Martinez can stop Chavez although i dont think he can,but if he does stop Chavez it will be from a accumulation of punches not one punch,,both fighters dont have one punch knock out power but their power is affective,, and i think the one who is going to get stop is Martinez ,them body shots from Chavez is going to be the difference … Posted September 12, 2012 12:22 amSergioDaLoser:razz: Predictions based on hate are based on delusions. The facts are simple, Marinez is OLD, no matter how experienced or determined he is, he cannot change the fact that he is fighting a younger, stronger, and bigger man. If Matinez win, he does not have much left, and if he loses, Chavez haters will claim that he fought a much older man. I think we will see an overwhelmed Martinez, who will probably retire. Anyway, I am betting my beer money on Chavez Jr. Posted September 11, 2012 10:40 pmGhetto Thugu mean the same de la chicken who spanked cheato triniwraps for 10 rounds?? Posted September 11, 2012 9:09 pmte tumboMartinez “might” defeat Rubio or Zbik but he actually hasN’T. Btw, please explain how Martinez matchups v. Dzinzurik, Macklin, and Barker were so much worthier of an HBO broadcast than a matchup v. Zbik? even Fredo has more name recognition than those guys, which is HBO’s priority when it comes to making broadcast decisions. Posted September 11, 2012 8:17 pmB RedSergio by Tko Posted September 11, 2012 8:15 pmTitopaHe “might” beat those guys…but if he couldn’t knock out Rubio or Zbik, I HIGHLY doubt he could do that to those four mentioned….but Martinez knocked them ALL OUT! Rubio would get destroyed by Martinez and Zbik wasn’t even worthy of Martinez LOL Which is why HBO said “nay” to that fight, it would’ve been a total mismatch. Posted September 11, 2012 7:12 pmte tumbo“but Martinez has (as of late) shown the ability to knock guys out”. yeh. i have noticed that an older Martinez has been reborn stronger and faster but far be it from me to raise red-flags about illegal wrapping or inadequate testing. if Jr. isn’t worried about it, neither am i. Btw, i would favor Jr. v. Williams, Cintron, Dzinzurik, Macklin, and Barker. in fact, wins over that lineup would’ve only earned “son of a legend” more scorn for “avoiding” the Super Six. Posted September 11, 2012 6:36 pmjoe 712F**k all this back and forth bottom line jr the big head punk will get ktfo. and if his father gets in the ring sergio will knock him out too. and new WBC champion sergio martinez. Pr will have a new champion too rocky martinez new WBO champion……. Posted September 11, 2012 5:54 pmBoxing Fanaticjr looks like he is gonna crap himself Posted September 11, 2012 5:52 pmte tumboMartinez is elusive but not untouchable. Williams, Pavlik, and even Cintron scored plenty. i anticipate that Jr. will experience at least the same success once he finds his range and Martinez’s punches don’t have the KO-effect he seems to guarantee. if Martinez and his fans had their way, Martinez would be the second coming of Ray Robinson(?!) but i don’t see it. he’s a skilled and talented champion who Jr. has a legitimate shot at dethroning. Posted September 11, 2012 5:43 pmTitopaI don’t know if you could tell…but Martinez has (as of late) show the ability to knock guys out, whether it be one shot (Williams & Cintron, although the ref was a freakin idiot) or an accumulation (Dzinzurik & Macklin & Barker) of punches. Chavez couldn’t wear down Duddy, Zbik or Rubio….those guys don’t come close to Martinez’s skill level. Those guys were happy standing still (or didn’t have the ability to move) and getting punched in the gut, Martinez won’t be so stupid. Posted September 11, 2012 5:37 pmte tumboi wholeheartedly agree that Roach has never taught any of his fighters how to box, particulary not Pacquiao*, but one thing that Roach & Ariza have excelled at is preparing their fighters for 12 rounds of give-and-take action, particularly Pacquiao*. Btw, Williams landed plenty on Martinez who was also conspicuously lumped-up by the plodding Pavlik. i don’t know when and where Martinez was suddenly bestowed with Mayweather and Wardlike talent and ringcraft but it’s simply not true. Martinez is a crafty and unconventional southpaw with startling quick fists. however, he also prefers to choose his spots and score in bursts. Pavlik was able to disrupt Martinez’s rhythm and begin to score regularly before sprouting several cuts that derailed his focus, which triggered Martinez’s instinct to go for the kill. Martinez is no bum. far from it. he’s a current P4Pr and Jr. immediately claims this status for himself IF he wins, which I’m leaning towards the closer we get to September 15. Posted September 11, 2012 5:37 pmTitopaFair enough. How many of those guys were stopped by Chavez? Not many. How many of those guys were stopped by Martinez? ALL FOUR!! Posted September 11, 2012 5:32 pmTitopaChavez’s last KO was against Lee….a string bean who stands still (who was nearly KO’d by McEwan) and allows himself to get ‘bullied’ against the ropes. Not to mention he’s been KO’d before. Before Lee, Which “opponent” had Chavez stopped? Oh yeah, Manfredo hahaha! Before that….Who? Some guy named Jason LeHoullier, who the hell is that? Posted September 11, 2012 5:28 pmTitopaRoach doesn’t teach defense…Chavez is used to taking shots, he’ll do his best to avoid Martinez’s punches, but when the going gets tough, he’ll resort to “taking shot” to land his own…which will be his downfall. Martinez is great in exchanges because of his speed and precise punches. Jr. WILL take his punches, but for how long? Chavez is a GREAT body puncher, but in order to land on Martinez’s body, he must lower his lands, that’s when Martinez will strike! One more thing, Chavez Sr. believes that Martinez WILL back up in a straight line (Roach’s main focus is that Chavez ‘make’ Martinez do so), but he doesn’t, he circles, Chavez’s relatively slow and heavy feet (ala Pavlik) won’t give him the luxury of attacking at those angle…Martinez is too quick (hand and foot) for him. Posted September 11, 2012 5:24 pmte tumbobottomline, Martinez is confidently over-relying on his KO punching power, which he’s never been known for. If and When his puncher’s fight-plan is shrugged aside by Jr., Martinez will be looking for a soft spot on the canvas to plant his ass or knees on. Posted September 11, 2012 4:56 pmte tumboemphasis on “opponents”. anyway, neither of Martinez’s last four opponents were Chavez Jr. as long as Jr. shows-up physically-prepared (the One Roach specialty), he should be able to prevail over a gradually wilting Martinez over 12. Posted September 11, 2012 4:53 pmte tumbomoreover, “funny” how you suspect nothing regarding Martinez’s newfound strength, stamina, and lethal punching power. NONE of which he displayed during his presumed prime(?). Posted September 11, 2012 4:51 pmte tumbo“Funny thing—I wonder why nobody else in boxing history found that huge and conspicuous button?” pray tell, which one of Williams’ HOF-bound(?) opponents do you think failed to apply a truth serum to Williams’ overrated and “avoided” status? Quintana? Lara? Cintron? Margarito? “funny” that even with is presumably “plastered” wraps, all Margarito could do was sting and stun Williams in the 11th round. that’s either “funny” or simply the proof that exposes your LIE. Posted September 11, 2012 4:01 pmTitopaAgreed!! But Martinez doesn’t run….he’s stopped his last 4 opponents, he can’t be a runner! Posted September 11, 2012 4:00 pmte tumboBtw, compared to Cheato, Margarito was NEVER a lethal puncher. only an unrelenting one whose granite chin enabled him to challenge punchstat records every time he entered a ring. unlike Cheato who could rely on incredibly concussive punches Aaand jabs(?!?) to do his dirty work. Posted September 11, 2012 3:58 pmTitopaHow were Pavlik or Williams NOT ‘A Level’ fighters? Their resumes spoke for themselves….Pavlik beat the man (Taylor) who beat the man (Hopkins) and had only one loss, Pavlik also destroyed Rubio as where Chavez barely beat him. Williams’ resume was also a VERY good one, having only lost once (to Quintana in which he revenged via 1st round KO) before Martinez iced him. Who has Chavez beaten? Rubio and Zbik are about the best he’s beaten, they were NOT ‘A Level’ fighters. Posted September 11, 2012 3:55 pmte tumboi agree. Cheato Trinidud became a virtual Bum following him being exposed by Bouie Fisher and Nazim who explicitly made the comparison between Cheato and Margarito just one day after the Shane incident. too bad his wraps weren’t subjected to crime-lab analysis even though the anecdotal evidence was Damning and the Pouty-Unavenged-Post-Loss RetirementS only emphasized Cheato’s lack of confidence without his illegal handwraps. Posted September 11, 2012 3:54 pmte tumboi would favor this version of Jr. v. the most prominent names on Martinez’s ring-resume. otherwise, who are the A-level opponents that Martinez has demolished? his P4P status is well-earned but it’s relative. if you ask yourself just how competitive Martinez would be in a division that included the likes of Hagler, Hearns, Toney, Jones Jr. and Nunn or even just Duran, Norris, McCallum, Olajide, and Kalambay you’ll see what i’m talking about. bottomline, Jr’s. timing is perfect to claim Martinez’s relative greatness and P4P status for his own. at which point, we can count on his Haters making the same relative argument to deny Jr. credit for doing so. after all, they are bitterly dedicated to making being the “son of a legend” a burden and obstacle rather than an advantage, which is fine. it’s only made Jr. tougher and more determined. Posted September 11, 2012 3:49 pmTARKFunny thing… Cheato was a lethal puncher before he was caught using plaster to knock people out… Since then he’s gotten the crap blasted out of him and hasn’t been able to stop anybody. Williams was NEVER KO’d before or since. Funny thing—I wonder why nobody else in boxing history found that huge and conspicuous button? ..In their first fight Martinez put Williams down, but not out. He wasn’t looking for the KO because you’re not supposed to look for KO’s. SM put too much faith in the judges, winning the fight but losing the decision. Sergio didn’t want a repeat in the 2nd Williams go, so he looked for the KO immiediately and got Paul out in two (2) rounds. The MargaCheato fight in 2000 shouldn’t count aganist Martinez. Everyone knows MargaCheato is the biggest cheater in the modern era of Boxing. From the character of the swelling, and the impact of ordinary blows in the Martinez-Cheato fight, which were much like Cotto-Cheato 1, it’s obvious to me that The Master of Plaster was up to his old tricks. Nobody else in boxing history was able to stop Martinez, and that lends to the suspicion. Posted September 11, 2012 3:42 pmsweet_scientistTe tumbo, if Chavez Jr HAD fought anybody of significance – on the same level as Martinez, I would AGREE with you. Chavez is SMART though he shrinks his 180lb + body down to 160lbs then rehydraes back up to 180lbs + for fight night, so he’s a cruiserweight fighting supermiddles. But against Martinez, if Martinez moves like he normally does all that weight will work against Chavez Jr late in the fight and Martinez will probably TKO or KO him. Posted September 11, 2012 3:33 pmSergioJr. over Pavlik? you have got to be kidding. Pavlik destroyed M A Rubio whereas Chavez barely beat him on points under highly suspicious circumstances. te tumboi can’t think of a SINGLE bout where a fighter won 10/12 rounds and was still denied the scorecard nod(?). Not-A-One. sounds like a bunch of pre-fight whining designed to compromise the credibility of any win for Jr. of course, the “expert” whiners will take a powder shoudl Jr. prevail in convincing fashion, which i believe is a definite possibility. if Jr. doesn’t react to Martinez’s punches, Martinez will get on his bicycle and run for the final bell. Posted September 11, 2012 3:21 pmGannicusHow many A level guys has Martinez defeated on their A level is a good question and I would say just one guy and thats Williams. Martinez nailed Williams with a great shot-he’s never been a 1 punch killer-never and he has stoppages over 3 other guys I never heard of untill he was about to fight them. I did a lil research and couldn’t stomach them long enough to continue watching their previous fights lol Posted September 11, 2012 3:15 pmte tumbo“No Excuses” is Martinez’s mantra. incompetent scoring is predictable and true fight-fans have learned to consider unofficial wins with as much if not more credibility than “official” scorecard wins. Martinez needs to go for the KO and NOT rely on style-points, which cost whittaker more than one scorecard nod. otherwise, he risks being called a “chicken” for “running” like DLH was for moving and boxing during the last three rounds of his presumed win v. Trinidud. double-standards abound and are convenient outs for compromised judges and their suspect scoring practices. Posted September 11, 2012 3:12 pmte tumboi honestly haven’t seen Martinez defeat any A-level opponents and i would favor this Jr. over the most prominent names on his ring-resume (Cintron, Pavlik, Williams). Martinez’s 160lb supremacy is undisputed but relative. he reigns over a division in flux and without an abundance of P4P talent. otherwise, Martinez would barely compete in a division with Hagler, Hearns, Toney, Nunn, or even Norris, Olajide, McCallum, and Kalambay, which is about the bracket that Martinez would be competitive in along with Pavlik, Williams, and Chavez Jr. Posted September 11, 2012 3:05 pmTARKSergio does not need a stoppage…but he does need to win 10 rounds decisively to get a 115-113 decision.. Now, I know Pernell Whitaker won every round when he fought Chavez Sr, and was still robbed blind—but Boxing has come a long way since then.. If you win 10 rounds decisively nowadays, like Ward did vs Froch, they usually give it to you 115-113—even if they hate your guts, curse your lifestyle, and receive a massive bonus if you lose … Judges do want Boxing to survive so they’re not out of a job—and they don’t like being called before the commission … Although I’m not sure about Duane Ford. He’s the most “flexible” judge I’ve ever seen. Posted September 11, 2012 3:00 pmte tumboMartinez was taken to the limit by an overrated Williams and a plodding Pavlik. to his credit, his killer-instinct saved the day in both matchups BUT he was being outclassed by Pavlik during the middle rounds of their matchup and took 14 rounds to FInally tag the huge and conspicuous “button” on Williams’ chin and if i’m not mistaken, virtually without looking(?!). Martinez has earned his 160lb supremacy but when one examines the instances in his career that have troubled him most (Margarito, Pavlik, Williams) it becomes apparent that Jr’s. strengths are perfectly suited to expose Martinez’s weakenesses. a Jr. win would be an upset but not a huge upset. just an unexpected one and primarily for those who habitually defer to “expert” opinions and promotional Hype. Btw, IF Jr. IS skipping workouts(?!) he must have always been skipping workouts, i.e., i sincerely doubt that he picked the training camp before the biggest fight of his career to suddenly start skipping workouts. besides, Roach is synonymous with pre-fight drama and pedestrian intrigue, which usually evaporates into thin air after the opening bell. i’m confident that the best 160lb-version of Jr. will show up this Saturday. training or no training he likes to Fight and Martinez’s entire style revolves around avoiding a Fight. in fact, you could see the concerned expression spreading across his face when the going began to get tough v. Pavlik. to his credit, he drew blood, which triggered a piranha-like frenzy all over Pavlik’s poor unsuspecting mug. i wouldn’t be shocked if this fight unfolds in the same manner IF Jr. is discouraged rather than incensed and motivated by the sight of his own blood like an Arce. regardless of who wins, it will be a good scrap. Jr. may be outclassed but i’m also anticipating an overwhelmed Martinez wilting and folding and living to fight another day. i strongly suspect that Martinez may be too civilized to get in the dirt and dogfight with a determined and unrelenting Chavez Jr. Posted September 11, 2012 2:43 pmTurd SpotterIs that you Public Enemy?
